1201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Education in the U.S. on: August 11, 2022, 10:06:03 AM
Good resources above. However, when it comes to anything regarding legal advice, I'd recommend either speaking to a professional or going directly to your governments website which will document that legalities of cryptocurrencies in your country. Simply because there's a varying level of laws depending on the country you're from. Obviously, being in the US simplifies that a little bit as they have extensive coverage of cryptocurrencies, but also because they dominate the news, so almost every search you do on Google will apply to you.

However, still states also differ I believe, and you should probably consider taking a look at your state government website also.
1202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5 truths about bitcoin, in my opinion? on: August 11, 2022, 10:03:41 AM
1. Bitcoin will probably make a lot of people rich especially for long term holders... again
Probably, but generally you have to be significantly invested in to see any meaningful return, at least in the terms of "rich".

2. Bitcoin is the future and bitcoin is the medium of exchange because it is widely accepted, portable, shareable, accessible, commensurate and relatively stable. That's why it will be used as future currency.
I kind of agree, and disagree here. I'm not sure if it's the entire future, likely there will always be other currencies floating around, especially now the world has been introduced to cryptocurrencies. I don't know if it's the future for the majority of people, but I know it's the future for me. Unless something crazy goes on, where another altcoin comes out, and massively outclasses Bitcoin, since the popularity of Bitcoin right now, means it'll have some resistance to certain altcoins which marginally improve on it.

3. Bitcoin can save the world
Hmm, probably not. As with everything, the rich will hoard a lot of the Bitcoin, and the poor will be late to the party. Obviously, Bitcoin can increase denominations to make Bitcoin worth using, but the rich elite will always remain the rich elite. Bitcoin does provide a path that isn't typically available to people though, which means they might find some success they otherwise wouldn't. The Blockchain definitely has its uses, and it might make things more comfortable in terms of transparency, but I still don't think it'll save the world as you put it.

4. Bitcoin is not very easy to understand and there is too much misinformation about it.
Myself, and others have always said this is the biggest obstacle Bitcoin has. The complexity means that not everyone is going to understand or be comfortable with using it, even if they like the sound of the freedom it provides.

5. Bitcoin has spread far, far more than most people know. There are already some of the biggest companies in the world using blockchain technology and some countries actually want to clone bitcoin, because bitcoin is so good.
Goes without saying. Anything good in this world, will be replicated a million times. Doesn't mean it's any better though. As we've seen over the years many have tried to become the next Bitcoin, but Bitcoin had everything in place, and basically was implemented at the right time to assure its success. It doesn't have gimmick features, it has features that were carefully thought out, and even though it might have not been implemented perfectly, it has been improved on since.
1203  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bolt Card management software is now open source on: August 11, 2022, 09:52:17 AM
no KYC?
funny thing is if they dont ask your name and where you live and a contact email if things go wrong, you will never receive the parcel (real world physics of delivering goods applies)
From that point of view though, wouldn't that be at your discretion? If you wanted to provide those things you could in the comment box while checking out, or by contacting the company directly. I haven't taken a look at the check out since I'd not all that interested in this, but it would make sense to include that information by default, the only problem with having those fields by default, means people automatically assume they're required, even when there's a clear key stating an asterisk is the only fields required.

Also, parcels don't go missing often. At least, from a individual view point. Obviously, millions of parcels get misplaced each year, but from one company that doesn't have a massive amount of exports, it's unlikely to be that many that it causes a massive problem. Obviously, as long as the company would be willing to replace those cards, no questions asked if undelivered.

Obviously, its been pointed out that KYC is required from a third party, but delivery I don't necessarily believe it would be absolutely required if you don't mind the risk of losing the parcel. Something like this, could probably be sent out without too much additional charge too.

1204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I started business many days ago. Now it's time to accept Crypto as a payment. on: August 11, 2022, 09:49:36 AM
Implementing a Bitcoin payment method into your business isn't going to cost you much, unless you have to process those transactions manually, and there's a lot of them. However, you would have to do that with fiat transactions I would guess? Unless, you have a automated system for that. Again, if it's worth your time, it might be worth investing into automated system for Bitcoin. There's no real downsides to accepting Bitcoin, unless you're a company like Tesla that care about their branding, and therefore don't want to be associated with some of the accusations regarding energy usage.

Although, as suggested you'll want to be receiving, and accepting your Bitcoin into a wallet which you own the keys. Especially, as a business that might be generating some pretty pennies.
1205  Other / Meta / Re: The DT system needs to change. on: August 11, 2022, 09:41:35 AM
This debate is getting strong now but I don't see any reply of theymos on this discussion on any of these threads. This is the most sensitive matter and I hope he will tell his point of view on this matter. No matter how many proposals we have, if theymos is not interested nothing is going to change.
I believe theymos has hinted in the past that they weren't quite happy with how the trust system was working. I think all of us can probably agree on that though. It's fixing it that is the problem. It's not an easy task, as a system that remains decentralised, and not moderated for the most part, is always going to bring problems. Especially, when you have a community which is rather divided on a lot of things. That's not saying our community is bad though, it's just what happens when there's a large amount of people involved in discussions.

Users will step on each others toes a little bit, and they'll have differences of opinion. That much is expected, but it's mitigating the influence one person has, at least enough to not cause a snowball effect. However, you want an individual to have enough of a voice to be able to influence things in a good way.

There's been several suggestions which I believe would help in the overall picture, but by no means would it solve every problem we have, and likely there isn't a perfect solution. If I was to wager a guess, and this isn't based on anything other than previous public comments theymos has made in the past regarding to the trust system, I would expect it to change in the future, its just a question of when, and how.
1206  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo vs Golovkin 3 - September 17 on: August 11, 2022, 09:34:43 AM
We don't need to see it, his lost to Bivol at LHW is already a indication that he swallow more than he could chew. So probably going up to CW will also be a disaster waiting to happen for him.

Definitely, his power can only bring that much as 160-168 lbs, he is very dominant and most likely that is his perfect weight. But above that 175 lbs and higher will be a different Canelo, he doesn't have the advantage that he has when he is in the middle to super middleweight.
I would be inclinded to agree with your later statement. Although, respect has to be given to Canelo for looking outside of his perfect weight class, which he would probably be dominant in, earn a tonne of money, without too many problems. It takes a decent amount of courage, to go somewhere you know there will be challenges, so while I'm not a Cancelo fan, he definitely gained respect for going to fight Bivol despite the loss. Also, Bivol is a class act from top to bottom. Probably one of the most difficult fighters to face, when you're moving up a division.

I do think people are starting to realise that Cancelo isn't this unstoppable force now. Everyone talks about how his power is the best in the business, but I've never really seen it honestly. I've seen some decent amount of tactical thinking from him, but that's been when he has been losing the fight, which is great. However, his power is only slightly above average I'd say in his division. If like you say, he moves up he doesn't keep that power to weight ratio, he seems to lose a bit of it.
1207  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul v Hasim Rahman Jr / Amanda Serrano V Brenda Carabaja co-main event Aug on: August 11, 2022, 09:30:44 AM
I've thought the KSI vs Jake Paul fight has been dead in the water for a long time. Jake Paul has clearly advanced beyond KSI's skill level. It would be a stupid fight on all levels. Jake Paul likely gets the finish, while KSI loses stock. I don't blame KSI wanting to duck that fight if the rumours are true. He would simply not benefit from it other than the share of the purse he would be guaranteed.

Jake Paul, despite what some might think of him has become a real boxer. He has dedicated the last few years to building a reputation in the sport, and while he might have cherry picked his opponents who doesn't when they're just starting out. Hell, I think big names like Joshua, and Fury cherry picked their opponents quite late into their careers. It's only now they're at the top level, they aren't so much. Although, Fury generally went for the more tougher opponents than AJ.
1208  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 11, 2022, 09:26:52 AM
It was a question that obv didn't need an answer.  Lol.  But yeah something is deeply wrong with Man United.  They learned from Liverpool's demise and did everything they could to avoid the same fate.  But 10 years later, here they are...  Suffering the same fate.  What did they do wrong?  It's like they're cursed.

And are you kidding?  Ter Stefen dreadful?  Even if he could be acquired as a free transfer?
I genuinely believe its a hangover from a great manager. It's never easy to replace your manager that has basically become part of the furniture. They usually have some stubborn personalities, and usually do it a little different from the norm. Sir Alex Ferguson commanded respect, so he was able to get away with a lot of things that other managers can't. Same as Klopp when we lose Klopp I genuinely believe we'll go into another dip, unless we have another fantastic manager to back him up. There's hope in Klopp's assistant manager, and Gerrard, but we'll have to see.

Although, Man United problems do seem to extend to the board, and the fact that certain players don't get on with the board at all. Bringing back Ronaldo was probably one of the worst decisions in hindsight, since he has almost tarnished his reputation with the club. He was their legend, and now there's a bitter sweet taste left in the fans mouths.
1209  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 11, 2022, 09:23:17 AM
the judges might give questionable split decisions for the 2 of them. This is not very impossible in the UFC.
I don't want to contribute to the conspiracy or the drama of recent events, but there's one particular judge that seems to always see a different fight to us viewers, and the other judges. In the past few weeks there's been some absolute mind boggling decisions. Some of them where fighters I bet on, and I just ended up thinking I got lucky.

Not sure how we can improve the judging though, at least it's better than boxing. Boxing judges seem to be heavily skewed either to the favourite or the home fighter. We don't see that at least in the UFC.
1210  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why beginners should pay attention to their privacy on: August 09, 2022, 10:05:29 AM
Honestly, a properly configured Firefox is probably the best way of going about things. A proven track record, and obviously Tor Browser is built on it for a reason. The latter being useful if you want even more privacy.

Sorry for the dumb question, but how can I install this on my Android device?

I have checked the github page and I noticed that there is a link under the custom F-Droid repository but the problem is upon clicking the link, it shows "403 Forbidden". On a sidenote, I've never done any custom build/installing on any device in my life, so I assume that installing it isn't just as simple as clicking the install button.

I just want to use this degoogled chromium to maintain the search results similar to using chrome but with an improved privacy aside from using DDG for casual(common) searches.
You can install F-Droid, and then add a custom repo directly in F-droid. That's basically how you download custom repo's from F-Droid directly, adding the repo will then allow you to see the applications inside of F-droid, and download whatever you want. Obviously, if the source is down you won't be able to do it. I'm not overly familiar with degoogled chromium as I use other alternatives, but give it go adding it to f-droid as long as you're comfortable with its safety.
1211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why I love Bitcoin and bitcointalk on: August 09, 2022, 10:01:46 AM
As with any other forum, and website it's up to you how private you want to be, i.e the platforms will collect data as pointed out above, but you can provide fake data if you want. Fake/temporary email address, VPN for disguising your IP. So, Bitcointalk doesn't require your actual information, but it does collect information to basically make administration work a little easier.

Most of the internet can be used somewhat anonymously. Obviously, escaping the bigger dogs like Google is a little more difficult, but independent websites are much easier to keep yourself anonymous from.
1212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could bitcoin mining solve climate change? on: August 09, 2022, 09:56:37 AM
I believe that’s what Tesla’s agenda is! To make the environment more happier by reducing pollution with the help of electric vehicles. At least that’s what it looks like with their behaviour.
Well, Tesla only cares about profit. I guess you could say that Elon is trying to break the barriers, and become a pioneer in multiple industries, but ultimately I don't think they actually care about climate change as much as they let on. For example, he dropped Bitcoin simply because of the news surrounding it with climate change, yet he knows himself there's multiple industries that are much worse, but he dropped it like a sack of rocks.

Why? Because he wants to keep his green looking reputation when it comes to Tesla. That's the priority, not the truth. He'll continue to do what's best to sell his cars.
1213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 09, 2022, 09:49:22 AM
I had a awful week, didn't expect Liverpool to drop points obviously, I did predict Brighton to beat Man Utd, but Wolves, Leicester, and West ham I expected to do better than they did. Biggest surprise is obviously Liverpool, but I'm also surprised a little about West Ham, I actually thought they could've got something from the game going by the pre season form of Man City.

Not sure how some of you got exact scores with those results Tongue.

2- Nobody can really know how good or bad its a team, after round 10 we can see a real tendency.
It's why betting on the underdogs make sense towards the start of the season, as the start of the season tends to have quite a lot of upsets due to preparation in the pre season. I don't know why exactly, since I'd expect the bigger teams to have a better way of going about things, but it does seem a common theme over the years.
1214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 09, 2022, 09:46:53 AM
I'm not massively looking forward to the next event, but I'll likely combine a football, and UFC bet together. I will be here to watch this one all the way through at least.

Heavyweights have serious power and with one correct punch they can put anyone to sleep.
Francis Ngannou is good example but I wouldn't underestimate anyone from heavyweight division.
Mohammed Usman needs to pass next test in UFC before we can see how strong he is really, but I see he lost two fights so far one of them in PFL last year.
Yeah, I don't think he's got it like Usman. However, he's decent, and I remember liking him on the ultimate fighter. Seemed a decent person, but a little gun shy at times when in fights. I like him, and hope he does get a run going on in the UFC. I don't think he's champion material though, however that's alright not everyone is or needs to be challenger material.
1215  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 07, 2022, 07:14:23 PM
^  Vicente Luque is the pie shitter of my lottery ticket.  I think it's his first time getting finished in a match in a looong time.  I'd be wary betting for him in his next matches now unless his next opponent is a total can.  But you could just see a fighter's career starting to going down when he gets back to back losses against guys who are getting better.  A couple of years ago I could never imagine Luque losing to Belal Muhammad and Geoff Neal.

Anyway, I'll make a proper roster for the next event later.  Congrats to those who cashed their tickets.
Mohammed Usman did my accumulator in. I underestimated him after watching him on the The Ultimate Fighter. I know I didn't put out any predictions, but I hopefully will be back in full swing come next event, and hopefully have a few good winners. I believe Lean Edwards against Usman is coming up too, which I'm excited for, although I do think Usman takes it, I might put a speculative bet on Edwards just for the fun of it.
1216  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 04, 2022, 08:36:52 PM
In december 2021, when Pena won, it was one of the biggest UFC upsets, as Pena was one of the biggest underdogs with +7 odds, and she has managed to win. Back in December, when Nunes lost, she did not looked like she was totally declassed. Since then, both Pena and Nunes did not have other fights, and now you are discussing like both are identically skilled, both had chances to win, both has strong sides. How can in half a year, a total underdog with +7 odds turned into a being close to a champion? Did Pena improved that much or Nunes became worse? Or women UFC is very unstable ? Cheesy
I believe the speculation was that Nunes was distracted due to other things going on in her life, I believe at that time she was just returning after giving birth? I'm not sure what sort of impact that might've had, but it's probably worth considering.

Anyhow, they're both clearly skilled, and if they matched up 10 times in a row, you'd likely see both fighters get a fair share of wins. That's MMA for you. Boxing is totally different, but that's why you see odds like 1.01 to 15.00. You don't get that in MMA, especially the UFC. So, of course anyone on the day is capable of winning. I do believe though, that Nunes gets the better of Pena in the majority of those fights. At least at their current levels.
1217  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 04, 2022, 12:53:34 PM
put your picks on time, Arsenal is opening the season tomorrow, and they seem as netting high number of goals in friendlies
West Ham will have another chance on City, they messed-up last season end, with a home draw, maybe they could pull something tomorrow as well

looking forward to see Newcastle and Nottingham in action

we play against Chelsea, almost a friendly for our coach
Already got my picks in for the first few weeks. I might be amending a few things, as I haven't checked any injuries that the teams may have picked up in pre season. Thinking West Ham have a decent chance against City, as City didn't look very good the other day, seemed to be rather rusty, and off the pace. Would be nice to see the Hammers pick up some points early in the season, as every point counts in the title race as last season proved.
1218  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Needs Signal and Analytical Sections on: August 04, 2022, 12:38:39 PM
You are right, I later discovered it and thanks to you. But am still not satisfied with the constructions seen there. I guess I will open my dedicated signal topic where most applicable soon. I will be giving Bitcoin a signal where the striking point, stop loss and take profit would be known, and it will be a free daily service.
Depending on the contents, and what it's actually going through speculation or one of the economy sections sub sections like trading discussion would fit it I would think. Obviously, as time goes on, and these sort of threads are dominating these sections it might be something to look at, but in its current state I think we're pretty good the way we are now.

Never hurts to make suggestions though, as you can see it triggered a decent enough discussion around it, and it might be something to consider in the future with demand.
1219  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 04, 2022, 12:33:26 PM
I actually missed a lot of the last card because of life. So, I'll be rewatching it before this weekends event, and I'll give my two cents, since it seems some betting veterans are divided on the opinion above, which tells me it was some fight.

I had Nunes going into the fight, and I generally think she's the most rounded of the two fighters, that's obviously not saying that Pena is in any way bad at what she does. Nunes has just been so dominant for so long, it's hard to discount her, when she's just lost recently, and obviously won again on the weekend.
1220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to BTC if China attack on Taiwan? on: August 04, 2022, 12:25:22 PM
Taiwan is the largest producer of microchips in the world. It has huge implications for both Bitcoin and global economy. And global economy also affects Bitcoin, especially in the short term. From the recent history we can see that Bitcoin is not a hedge against inflation or economic instability. It tends to follow the stock market and economy in general. So a war in Taiwan would likely crash Bitcoin's price and it would take a lot of time to recover.
Yeah, although a large portion of the world relies on them, and a few other countries, so exports probably will be allowed to resume. Depending on the devastation the war would cause, depends on how much they're effected, and obviously the actions that Taiwan take, i.e bringing in conscription which pulls factory workers out from building microchips etc.

There probably would be an impact to Bitcoin, but other industries in the world will likely feel the pressure even more.

As Russia attack on Ukraine it effects the BTC mostly.
Russian attack had no effects on bitcoin price whatsoever. It fucked the Western economy which in turn reflected on bitcoin and was mostly panic sellers that caused a bigger crash than logical.

China's possible attack would have the same effect. If it fucks Western economy more, it could cause some more panic sells in bitcoin but considering that weak hands are mostly out of the market the drop may not be nearly as big.

Right, the Russian invasion was also compounding a already weak economy because of Covid. Therefore, it was like double the hit. We haven't even seen the worst of it yet. However, there's also a difference I think, while Taiwan does manufacture a lot of our technology here in the West, Russia, and Ukraine basically provided a tonne of gas, oil, and wheat to much of the West. So, while definitely we'll see the effect, the effect on the Russia, Ukraine war was mainly compounding on a already declining economy, as well as effecting essential goods which a lot of countries relied on.
