1621  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: [MEGATHREAD] Pilipinas Coronavirus/COVID-19 Thread on: April 24, 2020, 12:54:10 AM

- National Capital Region
- Region 3 (Central Luzon)
- Region 4-A (Calabarzon)
- Province of Pangasinan
- Province of Benguet
- Island of Mindoro
- Province of Albay
- Island of Catanduanes
- Province of Antique
- Province of Iloilo
- Island of Cebu
- Davao City

Para naman sa ibang lugar especially provinces na may minimal cases which is moderate at low risk na areas sa COVID-19, Sila ay magkakaroon ng GCQ or General Community Quarantine simula sa May 1, 2020.

For those who are still studying, since Mass Promotion is an issue due to COVID-19, may I ask if pabor ba kayo dito?

For me, yes kasi sobrang delikado na ang lumabas ngayon. Kahit naman matapos na ang quarantine, mahirap pa rin i-ensure ang safety especially sa isang school/university na maraming students. Isa yan sa mga prone sa pagka-spread ng virus dahil dikit dikit at nasa iisang area lang. We can't risk our lives again just for grades, our country is currently facing a serious problem sa pagresulba ng COVID-19 so it's not good to resume classes. Some family can't afford to give allowances to their children when going to school. Lahat kasi ng tao ngayon ay back from the start, kaya mahirap pumasok kapag alam mong walang wala kang resources.

I want to hear some opinions from others.

1622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How bitcoins is helping during the lockdown on: April 23, 2020, 11:56:00 PM
Honestly, bitcoin is a great support to me during ECQ or enhanced community quarantine as I have no savings left. That is why I am still hoping that bitcoin will grow to double my income. It's hard to live like this because we don't have any means to raise money and some of us are lucky because they receive money from this platform through bounties and promotions all the time.

Regarding lockdown, I agree with @20kevin20, look at South Korea, they have already wiped the COVID-19 cases on their country by enforcing lockdowns, but more cases have occurred once again after lifting it. An anti-virus or vaccine is required and the only key which makes us immune to COVID-19.

So obviously, my current bitcoins help me live through this ECQ / lockdown, even increasing the days of ECQ because it's unlikely to avoid the COVID-19 through simply lockdown enforcing.
1623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin be the ideal currency of the future? on: April 23, 2020, 11:35:23 PM
i see so the main concern here is the possiblity of hacking a btc wallet   .  so the question if will btc improve its security yes if thats the only way to prevent the hacks  . i dont know if what are the draw backs of doing it but  i think imrpoving the security is someting that people are going to agree with   . other than that ,  the longer people expose on btc the more they will become interested on it  but i dont think that btc will be the ideal currency of the future because i believe other currencies and payment methods that we have now can still remain also   .
Hacking is not the only limitation in having digital as the world's main currency, so it's certainly going to be hard to introduce Bitcoin as the mainstream currency. Additionally, hacking is only possible for publicly accessible user keys that's why some are creating phishing sites to fool around some newbie in the digital world. It's quite difficult to hack in the blockchain since the data is decentralized and encrypted by the whole network and because you need a device that can decrypt all those nodes in the network that we still don't have.
1624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Education on: April 23, 2020, 11:24:15 PM
This kind of complex subject should be taught in college on specific technology-related courses. I'm opposed to teaching on lower education because some students aren't good and might not be interested in any stuff of technology. We have different learning styles, some aren't good at technology.

But I don't think it's appropriate to do bitcoin as a subject for those courses related to technology. In terms of bitcoin, they can be addressed in economics, since it's also somehow linked to the others, it's not too hard to grasp the sector. When we're talking about blockchain, it's a complex knowledge and a lot of programming skills are needed, but also not necessary. It can be discussed in the category of networks on the course topic of data communication since blockchain is just a kind of network.
1625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin be the ideal currency of the future? on: April 23, 2020, 11:14:17 PM
Bitcoin was amazing and those features are really important to us but I don't think it's the perfect currency for the future. And some governments are against putting this currency into action within their own country. The attacks on it are also rising as our technology progresses. Those data and so on would easily be swiped and gone if an internet crash occurred. If bitcoin aim to become part of the mainstream financial system which is the ideal currency in the future may need to follow widely divergent requirements. If there are many people who have supported the use of bitcoin, the government should introduce seminars that discuss security to prevent phishing and hacking because they are going to be an easy hacker target.
1626  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Covid-19 a cause for BTC price drops? on: April 23, 2020, 11:01:16 PM
At some point, yes it is. You know that market is somehow related to each other. These similarities indicate that what happens in one market may influence other markets. We should also focus on the principle of demand and supply, which is why we still don't think the virus is threatening the crypto market at any point. We didn't talk of the other economic factors which are users and manufacturers who worked very well in that definition and those are affected by the coronavirus, and it certainly affects the cryptocurrency even in the limited setting.
1627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is better than your bank! on: April 22, 2020, 10:15:55 PM
Well, if we will be comparing these two, obviously bitcoin has the upper hand as it is made to take down the bank. With bitcoin, we don't need banks as we are the bank of our own bitcoins. In terms of security, banks and bitcoin have a flaw; banks in their security literally and with bitcoin being used by a human that is still prone from being hacked and put their bitcoins to high possibility of being hacked.
In terms of confidentiality, bitcoin is something safer than a bank, there is nothing to be hacked or stolen because there are no servers on the network that contain all the data such as a particular wallet's password and usernames. We all know that each user keeps the keys in Bitcoin to unlock their own personal Bitcoin wallet and that's the only way to use them. The chain network is absolutely awesome and makes me realize it's one of the safe networks of our digital technologies that remains. Unlike the banking network, current servers store such records, and once infiltrated, it's easy to move money without getting a sweat.
1628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coronavirus crypto on: April 17, 2020, 11:49:34 PM
Hey, I was wondering, how will the crypto market react to the virus?
In this regard, I found the article about it, https://cryptogeek.info/en/blog/coronavirus-reveals-cryptocurrencies-are-crisis-resistant, it says, that crypto is well resisted to the crisis, what do you think? Is that true?

COVID19 has no effect on the crypto market
Any facts which might support your statement?

People spat out non-sense comments without even explaining why. When you read the entire thread, several people have already indicated that COVID-19 has a limited impact on the crypto market and it seems to be accurate.

It's not a coincidence, it's all 'cause of the pandemic.
1629  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: COVID-19: Avoid casino, play online on: April 17, 2020, 11:20:47 PM
Indeed, staying at home has become an obligation at this time and choosing to switch to online gambling is also something that most gamblers will certainly do or have done. Because indeed, if we want everything to return to normal then at this time we must stay at home and gamble or not This is a choice because in a situation like this it is possible that our mood is not stable or difficult and as much as possible you are gambling with good control so that staying at home can make you relaxed and not get stressed because of the defeat experienced in online gambling.
All we need to have now is to have fun so we will not be bored staying at home..

As for me, it's almost 2 months already that I can't do my usual thing outside and it's really boring, however, I can't go against the law of the government as I don't want to go to jail.

Here at home, my time for gambling is very limited only, due to the fact that I also have limited money now.
There are things that we can do in order for us to not get bored in home, during this enhanced community quarantine; many casinos are been closed to prevent the spreading of the virus and I know that many gamblers who usually play in casinos are now bored in their house. They can try online casinos where they can have enjoyment and also where they can earn money. But we should only allocate small amount of money if we will do online gambling for us to manage our resources carefully especially during this global crisis.
It is time online gaming sites took advantage of this global crisis because there are still gamblers from casino houses who still want to play. As the economic crisis unfolds, it's really true that we should all try to save money because we're quarantined at home and can't even get to work, we don't have enough money to buy resources for survival. Gambling isn't going to disappear so stay on your house and keep safe & secure, we can play all day long once quarantine or lockdown has already been lifted, just think first about ourselves.
1630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crowded Casinos - Play or not? on: April 17, 2020, 11:05:10 PM
I don't really prefer crowded places, a moderate amount of people is what I desire.

I can't concentrate or think of a place full of people, noise, a lot of diseases/bacteria spread out in the air. Instead of enjoying gambling, I'll still be worrying about my setting as it's not very comfortable. It's just going to spoil the entertainment I'm looking for in a casino house, and by just looking at the spot, it's very tiring. As you can see, the distancing of each person, we can't even move on that crowded pathway.
1631  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ESEA and ESL betting (esport - csgo) on: April 17, 2020, 10:29:39 PM
Does CS:GO continue tournament players to play even if there is a corona virus outbreak?. As we all know, there are many countries that have lockdown their town to avoid people getting infected and those who are infected can't infect other person. As what I know now is that many sports and esports have cancelled or postponed their schedule of the game because of the corona virus outbreak. Since  someone already point out that there is a thread like this already then you shouldo do what is suggested to do it on one thread.
There are many tournaments held already for charity and some are for the league. They can play as long as they want and can do online tournaments during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Since the online tournament is very common nowadays, they can easily implement those kinds of event without crowd through live streaming.

Some eSports tournaments are cancelled since travel ban is applied to avoid an increase of confirmed cases of COVID-19 like majors of Dota 2 and other world championship tournament.

In fact, most of the tournament is normal. E-sport has a big advantage now and it should be used. Why should the organizers be lost? What for ??
Organizers also have a disadvantage in the current situation for not organizing major events, as I said, such big events need sponsors to make it the best one, and they have large prizes. This is an event where all the people involved with it, particularly the organizers, will be benefited by big events equating to big revenue.

The manager of eSports events is also a job and needs to make it a successful tournaments/event and to excel until the end. Hence big events such as TI or Worlds are considered a loss if postponed.
1632  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Age restriction in gambling on: April 17, 2020, 10:09:30 PM
Just curious how is it even possible to gamble at the age of 5? Grin Grin Grin

Unless, it is not the kid that is gambling but someone at a right age that doesn't wanna get tracked down right? Well, the point is, the age restriction system will not really work here unless they implement KYC system with real time verification. Because merely, an ID's could still be used to steal identity to a person if they really want to gamble with a restricted age.

I actually didn't think about it before. Thanks for sharing a different point of view. Also, agreed that KYC implementation make users more 'vulnerable' to data leaks but in general KYC is needed for projects that aim to be legal and fair.

But what keeps a kid from faking his ID making it look like he's old enough? I saw many KYC procedures that asks that a user uploads he's ID front and back side and that's it. What is keeping a kid to "photoshop" his ID to show he was born in 2000. and not in 2010.?

I am not the expert but KYC people probably can detect a fake photoshopped id from the real scan unless it is done professionally. Would they care enough to go after you? I have doubts.

From my experience, they usually let anyone play on the casino until the players starts winning big and only then, KYC team starts taking its job seriously. Till then, nobody cares.
It's easy to determine a photoshopped id, try to zoom in and check if the pixels are unusual, which means it's being warped or something edited on it. Valid ID always has patterns, some are government logos printed, and watermarks so you can check if it's symmetrical or not. But agree that KYC isn't a biggie unless you've made a scene on a casino house.
1633  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling a threat or fun? on: April 17, 2020, 09:48:43 PM
It really depends on the person itself. People are influenced by their environment but the most deciding thing is the self control of the individual.
Gambling is gives you multiple opportunities to learn from your mistakes. If you don't it's a threat to your economy and mental health.
If you can, it's a good way to have fun, socialize and stay occupied.
Apart from all that, gambling will still be an attempt for gamblers to make a profit and indeed, it all depends and goes back to the intentions of each different individual but basically, no gambler wants to get a threat from gambling and therefore gambling is basically for generate profit even though you think of it as entertainment and for fun but it all depends on how you manage it, because when you can't manage it well then gambling might make a threat to your life.
Agree, it always depend and people that usually play gambling don't want threat from it. People are avoiding threats but at the same time staying at the place where a threat is possible to happen. People are still being optimistic that they can earn and be entertained on gambling, they remove the threat on their mind 'cause they're enjoying on it.

It's like the law of attraction, if you want to have some fun and don't want to gain any problems, think it as for entertainment and just enjoy it.
1634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your Satoshi theory? Deceased or alive & well on: April 17, 2020, 09:34:07 PM
For me, this whole Satoshi story looks very political. After all, while we believe that Satoshi is not one person but a group of people, the impression is created about the features of Bitcoin as an international means of interaction between people. But as soon as we find out who exactly is behind its creation, and if some structures are involved in this, then bitcoin may lose some of the people's love due to media attacks on it.
Same thinking, those who are following the tile of satoshi nakamoto have their own personal interests on bitcoin, and they knew they'd earn a lot from it. At some point, it's going to lend political influence because SN did something that was being used by a lot of people. On the other hand, bitcoin can become vulnerable to media threats and other leaders because the privacy of the mastermind no longer exists. If the disclosures have arisen, it would be a non-stop investigation and bitcoin's collapse, so the government would prosper because they are opposed to it becoming decentralized.
1635  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Age restriction in gambling on: April 17, 2020, 09:03:07 PM
But they can install the games on their computer or mobile phones so that makes them can play the games. I have already seen that young people addicted to games, and some of them are too busy to play those games. I think many games that can be a gambling game for the kids without we know because we don't have much time to take care of our children. I hope that our kids can understand how dangerous gambling games, and we can give attention to them while they are playing any games they like.
True. I have a niece who got addicted to using mobile phones most of the time cause both of his parents were often at work. I was really surprised. The kid was searching stuff he didn't even know about, even installing games that he didn't understand. Note that the kid is still not that skilled in reading, and wow I am surprised at how his hands can even manage to find those games. Not to mention the youtube videos he is actually finding. Ngl, YT is a bad influence. He often watches streamers that curse out loud, often leading to him actually copying it which is kind of sad.

I won't blame the kid nor the parents tbh, a phone has that kind of option naturally anyway. I just hope YT has some way to actually censor it lmao. I'm still relatively surprised by the age of 5 restriction though. I mean, the age restriction totally loses its purpose with that.

Mobile games are gambling that's unregulated and directed towards children. I would not be surprised at all to see countries to begin to regulate how they operate because their target audience are young kids and use loot box mechanisms on free to play games in order to lure in their buyers. It's predatory but slips under the radar because the mobile gaming industry isn't as big as other industries. There were people that protested loot boxes and microtransactions in triple A title games where grown ass men have the decision purchase microtransactions but don't utter a word about mobile games.
It's not gambling, mobile games that requires money on loot boxes, battle pass or any in-game items are called P2W games or Pay-to-win games. Gambling is just a win or lose situation, if you spent money on those type of games, you will still get enough items that can be used on the game, nothing to lose and there's no huge risk. So mobile games' in-game items aren't similar to the gambling concept, I always pay in-game items to make my account/profile cooler and advance more than free-to-play people. The loot boxes still consist of items that can be used and all of those are being played in the idea of probability.
1636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do some gamblers actually win? on: April 17, 2020, 08:52:38 PM
Gamblers do win, even new gambler win but you cannot hear them talk their losses only their winnings, this is is to justify their gambling activity, I also do that every time I win, I tell my friends about it but kept quiet when losing, I guess it's part of defending mechanism of justifying why we gamble.
Same thoughts. In betting, the common probability is 50-50, it's either you win or lose. So obviously a gambler can win and nothing is unusual with that. People are not often to talk about winnings and losings when you're an avid gambler. Sometimes winning is not enough when your recent streak is a loss, so people don't bother to share it with others but normally people/gamblers win in gambling.
1637  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MOBA Gambling on: April 17, 2020, 08:39:14 PM
There are so many amateur player out there and I know most of us likes to gamble,
So my question is why aren't there any website that could host a MOBA betting for amateurs were they could bet and they could earn from their own skill.
Who know's maybe because of it they would be a well known player and become a professional.
I knew a lot of MOBA tournaments wherein you can earn real money. It exists in schools, offices and towns.  If there are players, there are watchers too that put their bet to to players who have the highest potential to win. Well, we all know that some are well known DOTA players because of Dota 2 - The International. In some other popular games like Moba, it is not impossible to happen
It's not about the tournament, actually it refers to some professional players, streamers that are amateur on MOBA. It's like betting on someone that's good at that game and plays really well. If you're confident enough to show off your skills and gameplays, that's the way you'll earn money. IMO, @OP is talking about in the underground, the tournament is already mainstream and already earning a lot of money on each round.
1638  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ways to recover from being addicted in gambling. on: April 17, 2020, 07:49:34 PM
Specific reasons can increase the level of gambling addiction, we need to find the reasons and should ignore the consequences as the first priority. The family help will be the main center for receiving impulses against the emotional draining which causes the heating addiction but this is my guess only.

Family support is probably one of the best. But not only in golden advice. Gambling addicts need something more pressing to make them stop. Maybe it starts with the actions of some family members to help him not bet more or play for too long.

Of course, this desire must be conveyed first to the family to avoid feeling bad.
Before that, family support, then go to the medications. I don't think it's enough to depend on your family's support because addiction could come back when that attention wasn't granted.

This is best to make all these steps so as to ensure that gambling addiction can no longer exist in their minds. Addiction is not as easy as we know and takes a lot of time to heal.
1639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have control or not? on: April 17, 2020, 07:27:25 PM

This can work under someone else supervision like in your case are your parents which can restrict you all the tools that you can use to gamble with and keep an eye on you until let’s say you have not gambled for a month.
The real problem with control is when you are an independent adult that controls everything for yourself. In this case if the situation goes out of control then it is almost sure that a lot of problems will arise in the near future.

I was very surprised at the time how many adults can't control themselves on their own. They drink too much alcohol, gamble, cheat on their wives and husbands, and so on.
These people can and should be saved, but they themselves must seek help or their family members must do so.

The most important step in a person's recovery is to understand that they have a problem and want to get rid of it.
They should also consider how the environment feels regarding their behaviour because their conduct impacts others around them. Recovery is very complicated if the individual likes it himself, so it's best to first get support from the family and then go through the medications. And if we have someone we know is addicted to gambling, drugs, alcohol, gaming, and so on, try to save them by telling their family or friends before they ruin their lives.
1640  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reputation at stake will you stop gambling on: April 17, 2020, 06:43:39 PM
Negative publicity can make you more popular compared to the good ones but if you are going to be a leader and the election is somewhere in near future you need to show interest towards people's welfare not for your entertainment. If you are enjoying yourself then people think that this person is selfish so avoiding is the best thing, atleast that is what happening in the reality.
The hardest part of living life when people only discuss minor negative traits to destroy someone's reputation, do not care if during gambling activities will not disturb and harm others but avoid addicted to excessive gambling.
These days especially on the social media platforms, even though it's just gambling and most of us do it. People will still use it against you so you will not be qualified to run on your desired position in the government. Publicity is just for making something popular but in politics, it won't work. Politicians should avoid those negative traits and doings to make their names as qualified. So for me, stoping on gambling is the best choice or maybe try to make it more private and exclusive only for your relatives or friends.
