if we close the week on this level it would be the highest weekly close in about 34 months.
I know, a bit lame to contemplate about this on a Tuesday, but... still...

563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: @RogerVer lets make a deal. At least 60k, my BTU for your BTC. on: October 20, 2020, 04:07:31 PM
ver must really have had a lot of btc. and he must have been influential in the early days to an extent that he developed this view as if he himself can have a say in to which direction bitcoin evolves. he thought he owned the network. indeed, it would have been nice to see him sacrifice his wealth for this hubris. I am sure he bled a lot. he did not stay humble and bitcoin tends to be a harsh mistress towards those who aren't.

BTC dominance back over 60%.

bitcoin is this giant icebreaker vessel that managed to break through oceans of thick ice which literally no one believed it was ever possible. the thickness of the ice were technological barriers. the double spending problem. the byzantine generals problem. bitcoin is anti-intuitive in its maxed out inefficiency, the first time you hear about it you disregard it as bullshit. but then it proved to be breaking all that ice, streamed through it like a hot knife through zero-zero finest Moroccan hashish. so it was rewarded a market for us to exchange our increasingly worthless/dirty/bloody fiat for the crystal clear digital promise named bitcoin.

this should have been end of the story. but then some chap comes up with the idea to copy and paste the code and changing some lines and calling it the "better/newer/faster/shinier/bettersmellingfart" bitcoin. shitcoinery was born. what should have happened is: that stinking parody of a vessel should have been put in front of the same ocean of thick ice (should have been met with the same rigorous skepticism that bitcoin was confronted with). all those shit-vessels would fail this test, only bitcoin is the real icebreaker. in reality the stinking vessels just followed bitcoin through the canal that it had carved through the ice.

folks concluded since "blockchain" is the tech that breaks the ice (which is a grave mistake), every stinking blockchain copycat vessel is as good as bitcoin itself and should be rewarded with a market to trade fiat or btc for shitvessels/coins. the exchanges smelled profit and started to act as if those shitcoins were the real deal. someone wrote that is like a marketplace where one could buy gold and 6999 different fake golds also. this should have never happened.

now, with all the billions that poured into the market, shitcoinery became a beast of its own.  shitcoin whales and "inventors" suck out every dollar of sheep that fall for the online marketing propaganda promising "alt-season".

while the bitcoin price is a function of the number of people on this planet who understand money, the shitcoin prices are a function of the power of online marketing.

i am not sure if 60% market dominance means that 60% of the new money goes into btc and 40% is lost to scammers. it surely means lots of lives ruined.

as always: there is a pump and it gets dumped the shit out of it. who in his right mind is playing with this Uber-fire? e v e r y metric regarding bitcoin is bullish. what is the gain if I burn $2mio to dump the price back where it was 1 hour ago, when in general price is going upwards for 10 years?

since this is a speculation subform there ought to be traders here. what strategy do traders follow when they market dump bitcoins that are worth millions? I don't get it.

measured in 5 different fiat currencies bitcoin is back in the top 100 highest daily prices. top 100 highest daily price out of a list of 4000 daily prices, we are in the top 2.5% of highest daily prices bitcoin has ever achieved. this is in contrast to the the price of bitcoin currently trading more than 40% under its ATH

As Bitcoiners, we are at sea, on this Bitcoin ship. The storms and waves are merciless.

We planned our destination before setting off. We left port knowing where we were heading, that we would need to pass the Sirens, and everyone on board knew it would be hard.

We have heard the tales from those that passed before us. To not perish in the rough waters. To not succumb you must resist the call of the Sirens who sing of alt seasons and riches.

Tie yourself to the mast of our ship if you must, put hurdles in your way to make it too much time and effort to do, but avoid the alts at all costs.

Well done 600watt! I would suggest you create a thread outside the WO. You could help a few more bitcoiners with this list. Either way, I'm quoting this as a future reference. And then a question: given the huge amount of sources, what would you personally suggest to start with?
Thank you very much

Thanks for that 600watt - so many sources of info, so little time. It is striking, though, just how much easier it is to find info on bitcoin now compared to years past. Although there is now the problem of too many poorly researched sources or, worse still, self-declared experts spouting their take on things they haven't fully understood (a bit like nulius, sorry couldn't resist  Tongue)

I've just downloaded a few of the Bitcoin Audible episodes you recommended and will listen to them while going for a run this afternoon (I find audiobooks and podcasts help as a distraction against muscle pain, too).

I remember searching for bitcoin news years ago when useful info was hard to come by and one of the top search results led me to....the WO!

lots of info but limited time, you are right: that problem sounds familiar. this is why podcasts are getting more traction imho: listen while doing something else like running is great. it is also addictive. you end up running longer and more often this way...

observing €9760 on stamp. I warned in July that €10k could be a barrier for a while and stop our nice little run-up back then. I want to assert that next time we cross €10k it most likely will not be such a barrier anymore. probably last chance to buy btc for 4 figure €...

Weird dream: Bought a yellow Lambo then bumped it into a wall and scratched the paint. Then a bunch of people arrived to wash it, but when I came back from lunch I found it hd been towed. Too much stress to own something like that. So annoyed I woke myself up.

Weird.

my favorite is Guy Swann since he is reading a lot of interesting and mainly essential bitcoin writings and sometimes interviews the authors later.

*it is now called bitcoinaudible.com but the anchor link above presents it better imho. indeed, Guy started his podcast in March 2018. that is just 2.5 years ago.

most bitcoin podcasters seem to be married to Austrian economics. has anyone heard of a good btc podcast that tries to do this from a Keynesian point of view? I don't get why Keynes is hated so much by bitcoiners. I don't think he was wrong. government intervention in economic crisis is good imho. what governments worldwide did not do was the other thing that is part of keynes theory: in healthy economic periods governments should save capital in order to have dry powder for the next crisis. the governments just kept spending and printing more money.

I have missed the posts about bitcoin podcasts in march of this year.

just slammed them all in one post, it is a bit redundant and sloppy. I did not know that they were so abundant. very cool, I will check them all out. when someone first hears about bitcoin it seems overwhelmingly complicated. when going down the rabbit hole and one "gets it" it seems to be actually not that complicated at all: a global ledger on a peer2peer network telling us who owns what that gets audited every 10 minutes and is neither forgeable nor stoppable. but when you go down deeper the details, structures, principles, incentives and emerging functionalities again do get overwhelmingly complex.

I can only recommend to all of you, no matter how long into the space: dig deeper down the rabbit hole, it is rewarding. the protocol may need to ossify, but not your brain.

since summer I made it a habit to listen to bitcoin podcasts. the amount of good content about bitcoin is impressive. let´s take Guy Swann as an example. he has spit out more than 400 episodes, mainly just reading essential bitcoin pieces but also good interviews and talks. it just lately dawned on me that he got in bitcoin around 2017. and lots of really good writings about bitcoin were created by folks who got into bitcoin 2018 or even later.

in a time period where I contemplated how I can fire up my full node those guys learned about bitcoin, jumped down the rabbit hole, went all-in, started to live and breathe bitcoin, started to work for bitcoin, started to educate others about bitcoin and got to a position where I can learn from them about bitcoin.

I always thought being active in this forum and checking for bitcoin related news would sort of keep me up to date. but fuck no, I have to admit that this isn't the case. intellectual laziness spotted.

not only has my knowledge and insight about bitcoin gotten deeper, in addition my attitude towards and believe in bitcoin has improved. I don't think I was ever that confident about the future of bitcoin.

also, it seems that folks that got in later are able to learn quicker than it was possible for example in 2013. they seem to start on a different foundation.

here are some examples of good bitcoin podcasts.

https://bitcoinaudible.com/

https://citizenbitcoin.world

https://swansignalpodcast.com

which podcasts can you recommend?
578  Economy / Speculation / Re: Institutional Money Observer on: October 18, 2020, 10:49:45 AM
there is definitely some institutional action in the bitcoin space.

Quote
On Oct. 8, right on cue, mobile payments giant Square, which boasts a market cap of $86.6 billion, announced that it had invested $50 million in Bitcoin (BTC). Five days later, asset manager Stone Ridge Holdings, which manages over $10 billion in assets, disclosed that it had purchased more than 10,000 BTC, worth around $114 million, as part of its treasury reserve strategy.

They both followed MicroStrategy, a Nasdaq-listed asset manager, which made known last month that it had accumulated $425 million in Bitcoin, making BTC the principal holding in its treasury reserve strategy.

i don't think Microstrategy is an asset manager, it is a software company for business intelligence.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/the-next-big-treasure-corporations-buy-up-bitcoin-as-a-treasury-reserve

here is a website that collects the data of corporate treasures that include bitcoin:

https://bitcointreasuries.org

there are already 13 public traded companies, 1 private and 6 "etf-like" that have invested almost $7billion and hodl 620030 btc which is 2.95% of all btc

this was the moment when bitcoin mutated from being a nerds game to become the best money ever invented.
