1641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: July 22, 2013, 05:26:03 AM
How much time it takes to found a block?
I just using this primecoin-hp on my i7 with the mining speed about 4000-5000 pps for couple of days and still nothing...
Is it how it should be?
I've been consistently finding blocks once per day with my Core 2 Quad 9400 OC'ed to 3.5GHz on the second windows client.  My pps is usually around 2500, so I'm either very lucky or something is wrong on your end.

your very lucky:

primespersec: 21575
chainspermin: 56
immature: 12.34  (about 12 hours ago)

Or, we could just have things set up incorrectly.
1642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Finding the best sievesize for mining on: July 21, 2013, 11:22:16 PM
Been running for 96 hrs at various sievesizes, mainly 1000000. I'm getting about 4000 pps. I haven't found a block.
1643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: July 21, 2013, 12:32:42 AM
I like to keep my sievesize at 1M just to have one less variable to worry about. At this point I think is best to experience with different processors, VPS configurations, etc.

Been running for 72 hrs with 4000-4500 pps and haven't found a block yet. I think there is something wrong with my settings rather than just bad luck. Most people I see are hitting multiple times over a few days with similar pps.

Is there no way to set the sievesize using the debug window console? I am not running this from command line.

Add it to your .conf file.
Don't have a .conf file.

Start menu, type %appdata%, hit enter (assuming win 7).
Go to primecoin folder, there create a txt document.
Name it, primecoin.conf (remove the .txt extension), edit it with right click.
Type the following lines inside:

server=1
sievesize=2000000
gen=1
rpcuser=whateveryouwant
rpcpassword=whateveryouwant
genproclimit=-1

Save it, and run primecoin-qt, it'll start mining right away. Tweak the sieve as you wish.

Alright, I was trying to avoid fooling with a .conf file but if its the only way...

Edit: .conf file doesn't work. Is there no command for the console window? How can you set the generate and everything else there but not the sievesize? Cause it really seems to me that there is just something wrong with the way I am mining rather than my pps. With others getting consistent results every day or every other day at the same pps as me, I have to have a setting wrong which is just producing trash results.

Edit: I got it working after saving the .conf file like 20 times under "All files".

OK, Thanks.  What does "Currentblocktx" : 0 mean?

I feel like I am not doing the mining correctly. Am I correct to be mining from within primecoin-qt through the debug window by simply setting "setgenerate true -1"?
1650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: July 19, 2013, 06:01:47 PM
How can the sieve size be altered? I can't find any list of commands fro Primcoin-qt

Also, my currentblocktx seems to always be zero and rarely 1 - same with pooledtx. What does that mean?
1651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 19, 2013, 04:30:45 PM
Wow..everyone told me not to bother mining with an Intel Celeron processor yesterday. At 900 PPS, I found a block since yesterday. Hah...What luck... Cool

Was that using 64 bit high performance mod?

What is the 64 bit high performance mod. And how do you get 900 PPS with a celeron when I only get 1250 pps with an i5?

Should I be modifying the config files with my 127.0.0.1 and all that to point the miner at my wallet or does that happen automatically?

Edit: found 64bit high performance. I set the qt to mine and I get 0 pps. WTF?

Edit: Nevermind, fixed.

I want to get more miners assembled - where can I purchase Avalon chips from an early buy?
Thanks for the help!  Smiley

Willing to sell my 2x K64's and 1 K16's on Preorder #591 for $2600. PM me if your interested.
Just cancel your order. You should never have placed it if you didn't plan on mining with it. All you are doing is allowing people to skip line who were too stupid or lazy or unprepared to get in line with everyone else.

Which is a service stupid, lazy people like me appreciate.
I'm stupid, yet you don't know how to use commas.

I don't really understand. with the xpm difficulty and reward like it is, it doesn't seem like it will be worth mining soon.
If all you care about is profit, then yeah.

Well, that is why the vast majority of people are mining.

mining for 36hrs at 1300pps, nothing yet.  this might be a lost cause.

As early as we are, relatively speaking, we are already too late. At least until they get GPU mining software to the public.

With ASIC manufacturers capitalizing on their ASICS like they are now, it's just an unfair game of the absolute richest getting richer.
What is unfair about it? How can someone who doesn't understand free markets even be a proponent of cryptocurrencies? Are you sure you are in the right place? ASICs will bring mining to more people than GPUs and CPUs ever did.

How? When each unit is 6000 dollars a peice! Nobody can afford that!

Fail.

My two Jalapeņos were a bit over $300 when I bought them, and they've more than earned their money back already. They've since gone up in price, but still nowhere near $6k.

When were you able to start mining with those?
1658  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 18, 2013, 08:59:10 PM
How is it that only a week or two ago people were getting decent returns on XPM with CPUs and now your lucky if you get anything? didn't the coin only start being mined just two weeks ago? Thats insane.
1659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 18, 2013, 06:38:53 PM
Absolutely. The prices of ASICS are not only capitalized, 80 dollars for simply a flimsy USB device, it is a complete gamble consequently, as you NEVER know if you will ever get a return on your investment because of all of the other big-rig ASIC miners as well as private ASICS.

Dude, look at the development of technology in every sector. Things always start out expensive as those with big money pay the initial costs for further technology development. You are seeing right now and not a couple years down the road. ASICs and other software technology will make mining more accessible to everyone.

Nonsense. I paid $950 for mine. The USB ASICs are like $150. And these are just the first generation ASICs. Do you know how much the first computers cost? ASICs have already brought the cost per hash way down.
