Here is what will happen. Labcoin will state: "We are hashing". stock price will jump up and then there will be a massive sell-off. Then everyone on here will be like "Oh, well, we really don't have any proof that they are hashing until they start paying dividends - that is the real news."

Every step of the way, everyone anticipates news, Labcoin gives it, and then everyone downplays the significance of the news, and says "the next announcement is the one that matters."

Isn't there only 10 days between now and when they are supposed to begin hashing? why do we need news? Any sell-off at this point is going to be the result of panic induction by a whale or two.

Let me know if I missed this, but has it been addressed why the picture of the new "chips" showed two different chips and no indication that either was developed by LC?

One chip from top side, one bottom side  ...

The far more intresting question is about the 12.8W and no heat pad ... but maybe they invented self soldering Chips.
No, the packages were different as well.

If it had been asked it would have been ignored. Communication is not one of Labcoins strengths. Causing panic is.
I asked and it was ignored.

A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. --Ludwig von Mises
I think that is from the bible.

A common misconception.  The so-called "prophet" of the Testament 2.0 fame plagiarized the immortal words of Ludwig von Mises.  This proves, amongst other things, the existence of retroactive, inverse causation manifesting itself as unbound toroidosphere on both sides of the space-time continuum. --Max Planck

G-zus.

This weeks forecast: 100% chance of FUDshowers

Temperatures could be dropping in the evenings and causing freezing, beware of falling FUDcicles.

Let's go down, deep down and touch the .. center of the earth  Grin
Lets not because I'm here and don't even want to be. Lets go up so I can get my money back and then it can go down. Ken is bringing news tomorrow to officially announce the eASIC deal. I hear it on IRC channel.

Proof?
Obviously, the comment was BS. At least it would have been if you read the status of my position. I accidentally bought a bunch of shares of ActM a couple hours ago in an attempted buy-in of Labcoin at prices that were 15% above the going rate at the time, i.e., it was trading at .0031 and I bought at .003499. I'll say anything to get the price to go back up at this point.

you guys think so short term. i bet if you had the chance to buy into asicminer you would have sold off at .2 to .3.

True, I learned quickly when I took profits on litecoin, bought 7 cents sold 15 cents.
Then it peaked at $6. (could've been a millionaire! not making that mistake again)

You sold at $0.15 and then completely ignored LTC price for a couple weeks? You aren't necessarily supposed to sell and never look back. You sell at the peak and buy back in the sell-off.

Because currently in the Bitcoin world there are too many other opportunities to make money. It would be stupid to just buy and sit on stuff without taking your profit. Because it is likely going to swing back and forth multiple times from point A to point B. That type of strategy works in the matured financial markets but here it is kinda like shooting yourself in the foot.
1272  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: September 01, 2013, 05:25:13 PM
I'm on this ship now because I accidentally bought a bunch of shares, at .0035 no doubt, in an attempt to place a buy order for LC. I am now stuck and have lost 20% in just the last 1.5 hours.

They had to meet that Aug 15 delivery deadline to be profitable - just two weeks later and they were unprofitable.

and if btc is 250 Huh? Calcs can only tell you about that day.
You should never factor an increase in BTC price to determine profitability. If you need BTC price to increase to make ROI then you lost out by not buying bitcoins instead.

I would have to say this depends on how long your time preference is.

Personally, I'd like to see dollars measured against the bitcoin someday, rather than the other way 'round. If that were to occur, $250/BTC would be chump change. Were the Federal Reserve and/or the FDIC to pull the kind of stunt that the EU central bank and the Cypriot banks pulled off, that would cause a mass exodus from the dollar, and the Cypriot example is still fresh in the mind of people with a much wider focus than bitcoin. Sure, the massive runup on the price of the bitcoin went back down, as bubbles inevitably will, but the hedge against the confiscation of funds WORKED for a lot of people who otherwise would have lost a lot more than they did. Cyprus is pretty small, but the example still stands.

While I still see gold as a more solid investment for those with a long time preference, it has some weaknesses that bitcoin don't. (that sword definitely has two edges). One of the strengths of Bitcoin, perhaps it's only valid one against precious metals, is that it's damn near impossible to confiscate an encrypted wallet. That's what made it a safe haven for the people of cyprus, and that is part of what makes it attractive as a growth investment.

I see the biggest problem of bitcoin primarily being general acceptance, which all of us should be exercising our brains and talents to change. Else mining will become useless. There needs to be more and easier ways to use it DIRECTLY as money, not just a few vendors and a few services. It needs to become as ubiquitous as VISA. There are some technical hurdles to this, outside of internet sales, due to the time of confirmation and some other things, but I am confident that the talent pool represented by this community is capable of overcoming them.
It has nothing to do with time preference.

I just accidentally purchased ActM shares instead of LC. This freaking sucks.

How many and how much?

about 4500 shares for .00349. I was trying to set a buy for LC but was on the wrong window.

There isn't going to be a "crash" but it may return to $90-$100, but in that case you only missed out on a %30 gain. Is your investment in Labcoin likely to yield more than a %30 gain in the next month or two? Just trying to understand your move cause I may try to do something similar - I'm just not seeing much of an advantage at this point.

No one knows, but judging from what I have seen and how things are going I think 30% is possible.

But I do also think as the price of btc increases I think there are some who will take profits off the table.

Of course, otherwise the price would go to infinity, which isn't possible. "Time-preference".

People should cash out and sell their btc for fiat before the exchange rate crashes.
What if it doesn't crash?

It'll crash, but when and to what level is the question.

At some point people have to offer their btc for sale.  We haven't reached that point yet.

I took 85BTC worth of labcoin shares off the table.

Coinbase just makes it to easy.

too easy to do what?

To sell your coins
Why would you want to sell your coins now?

Because I originally purchased coins at $65 .
Was your goal to accumulate more and more bitcoins or to get cash? All I am saying is that cashing out right now isn't necessarily the best thing to do. There are multiple factors to consider... Bitcoin may continue to increase after you cashout AND Labcoin shares could almost double from current prices. Now if you had some arbitrage opportunity it would definitely make sense but there isn't really and solid opportunities with the Gox situation.
