Full credit for having the vision and sticking to it through some long dark years.

I bought some AEON today for $2.45.  Maybe if I hang onto that for 10 years it will also be worth $8k.  It’s a Monero fork, equivalent to Litecoin.

Bitcoin is still your best bet. It's not too late to make a pisspot full of money just by holding Bitcoin.

When I bought in at $68 I felt like I'd already missed the boat. I was disappointed I hadn't learned of it 6 months earlier when I could have bought for less than a tenth of that. I really wished I'd found out about it when it was worth a few pennies.

Luckily, I realized how important Bitcoin was and didn't panic when it dropped to $50 after hitting $266. Instead I bought more.

Same thing during the long bear market following the Gox implosion. I kept buying all the way down and on every dip on the way back up. I amused myself through the tough times by sparring with Bitcoin-hating trolls like Notlambchop and Matthecat.

I shrugged off the loss of 50 coins to MtGox even though it raised the average cost of my other coins up to close to $200. I've kept buying the dips all the way up since then. Now my average cost is over $300 per. I'm still buying, except that now I'm buying a tenth of a coin at a time instead of ten at a time.
_____

I can see how some people feel it's too late to buy in. They said that at $30, again at $300 and again at $3000. They'll say it again at $30,000 but when John Mcafee avoids fellating himself on national television, people will be envious of those who bought for "only" $30k just as they are now envious of those who only paid triple digits.  It's all relative.
_____

I really don't see any current altcoin having the potential for growth that Bitcoin has. It's open source, its network is the biggest computer force in history, and  it has the advantage of being first.

The reason for the early success of Litecoin was that it extended the life of pre-ASIC mining equipment but most people mined it to buy Bitcoins.

Ethereum promised smart contracts but it was basically a scam on Vitalik Buterin's part to weasel other people out of their bitcoins by pre-mining and then holding the first ICO, payable in Bitcoin. Eventually the smart contract function will be added to Bitcoin via sidechains.

While there are some attempts at creating a revolutionary blockchain-based currency (especially in seeking anonymity) most are just lame me-too attempts.

IMHO only Bitcoin holds the potential to keep showing the gains we've seen these last 8-9 years. We may have missed the innovator stage of the adoption curve but we're still in the early-adopter phase. Just wait until we get to the early mainstream stage. It's not too far off.

Very well said. I entered at $200 and have to pinch myself every morning to check that I'm not still dreaming... Those reading your post will do good taking your advice.

I've posted this before. I wonder how it is possible for anyone who has read the official Bitcoin Cash's "Letter from the CEO" (link below), to keep supporting this joke of a coin...

https://www.bitcoincash.org/letter-from-the-ceo.pdf

It's mind-boggling to say the least. But then again, the brain is a complicated organ, that can often fail and make someone do all sort of weird things. "Live your own fantasy" as they say...  Shocked

Just FYI, quoting from the website of SatoshiLabs (creators of TREZOR). Looks like TREZOR owners may be able to claim their Bitcoin Gold airdrop as soon as tomorrow (Monday, 20 November)!

Quote
Will TREZOR Wallet support Bitcoin Gold?

UPDATE: Bitcoin Gold seems to have implemented replay protection. We will now begin developing support in the Wallet and a method to split the coins. Bitcoin Gold network is not live yet, only the testnet is running. The automated coin-splitting tool will, most likely, be adapted to support BTG too.

UPDATE (13 Nov): Bitcoin Gold finally released their source code allowing us to develop our infrastructure. The network is, however, not stable yet. More information will come as we progress.

UPDATE (16 Nov): We have successfully synchronized our Bitcoin Gold backend server and are now steps away from releasing full support. BTG will be included in the next firmware update, after the implementation is thoroughly tested by our team.

UPDATE (17 Nov): Release is planned for Monday, 20 Nov.

Guys, we have a green vertical!

CAROLINA?

Edit: I really expected blood this weekend. I'm not complaining. I hope the BCH cancer is cleared away soon, and for good.

There are many Bitcoin people here (because hey, this IS a Bitcoin WO thread) that have disagreements and legitimate concerns about the future of Bitcoin: Joe public adoption worries, SegWit adoption worries, scaling worries, worries about how LN will work, worries about the power/centralization of the miners, etc. I would think on some level that all of us share these concerns to some degree.

But the thing that separates these people from the true Bitcoin trolls and alt shills is the fact that they are still pro-Bitcoin. They WANT Bitcoin to succeed and thrive long term. They have no hidden anti-Bitcoin agenda, or trying to covertly shill for an altcoin (BCH). They don't spend every moment with every post spewing anti-Bitcoin propaganda, or slyly trying to strike up a supposedly "agnostic" debate or concern, only to have their real hidden agenda slowly revealed through the way that they are debating (i.e. breadcrumbing, straw-manning, playing dumb, rebuttal of every single point, supposedly have the 'real inside knowledge', leading with the empathy card, etc.).

No common ground is ever found with a troll/shill, because they're not looking to find common ground. They are not looking to have some honest debate. They are trying to disrupt and create an emotional reaction, that is all. And in this forum's case, they are looking to disrupt and dissuade belief in Bitcoin's long term dominance and viability. In fact, they are part of a campaign to do so, and it is reasonable to assume that some of them are getting paid for their effort.

The thing that the trolls apparently don't get is we are all too familiar with all their stupid tactics. The art of internet trolling is well documented and has been around for some time. So they are pretty easy to spot.
https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/5wslia/internet_troll_tactics/

Some of you guys can engage with the trolls all you want, the rest of us will just put them on /ignore. But please stop trying to 'defend' them and their actions. And if you are so blind that you can't see that they only show up when Bitcoin is falling and BCash is getting pumped, then you need to seek help.

Well said.

Personally I don't mind jbreher's posts because they are easily refuted using facts. So I don't think he is to be feared. But I understand your points, after all it's a Bitcoin thread (arguably the best there is), and it should stay a Bitcoin thread. Altcoin supporters and Bitcoin haters can go post in the appropriate sections or start their own threads.

This weekend's battle appears to be much less intense than the previous one. It seems that the majority of current BTC owners are genuine investors and HoDLers, and are not here to play the BTC/BCH/airdrop game. This strengthens the BTC side, and attracts more genuine investors that buy away the small dips that appear. Come Monday, a new BTC pump will surely restore the weekend's lost ground and take us to new heights, a string of ATHs, and eventually into 5-digit territory at the end of the year. This will be the t-0 for the rocket launch.

Go BTC go!

About jbreher's posts, I also think they shouldn't have been deleted. As much as I disagree with him, I like reading his way of thinking and don't mind his posts. If I don't want to read them or any other's posts, I just scroll down... I think the removal of posts should be reserved only for seriously offensive material.

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions

46000+ unconfirmed tx's... and only 20BTC in fees. Average of 3 cents per TX.... Sounds totally legit.

~44k in the 0-20sat range: https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/

So we're talking about transactions of $0.0015 each (tops). I wonder where they come from...

How can anyone support a coin whose team uses such methods?

Jeez guys, BTC is pumping in-battle and you're talking binary and Chinese now?

Bow down on your knees, ye all people of BCT, and be well prepared to greet the beautiful and all-powerful CAROLINA!

To help clear away all misinformation posted about the Bitcoin Lightning Network (LN), may I suggest to all those interested in the facts, to read the white paper and other relevant documents here:

http://lightning.network/docs/

Section 1 of the paper should be particularly enlightening to those who still have doubts about LN's elegance and superiority in comparison with a mere increase in block size.

Looks like another BCH pump-in-the-making.

Round 2 (... or is it 3, now ?) in the works ?

I don't know if it's a BCH pump, but BTC is holding nicely. It looks like they've run out of steam now, and can only do minor damage.

Well, I hope so! Come Monday, we'll know.

~~~ Ode to Bitcoin ~~~
Till the sun never rises
The skies turn to grey
Till the earth stops revolving
All light fades away
Till the planets stop spinning
In the darkness above
I will treasure each moment
I am with you my love
Till the moment comes when time stands still.
Till the moon never beams
But in the sky tries to hide
Till the oceans and rivers
Fail to turn with the tide
Till my heart stops its beating
Till the stars burn away
I will always be with you
Till the end of all days
In that moment when the world is still.
Till the raindrops stop falling
The wind never blows
Till the mountains all tumble
To the seas far below
Till the stars lose their sparkle
And the ice melts away
I will love you forever
I will love you always
Till the moment when the skies no longer blue
Until then you know I'll still believe in you.
When watching a rising Bitcoin, I highly recommend listening to some fine epic music at a decent amount of volume.
Like Lesiëm's Times, and other albums.
Why get angry. Bitcoin 15000, BCH 3000. I'm not against.
I got angry at the rhetoric and the hijack attempt, as well as all the lies. Other than that, it's an altcoin just like many others.
For example, I am not angry against bitcoin gold, but they didn't try to hijack anything.
Legitimate effort is legitimate effort and is to be respected.
ATEOTD, the enemy boosted its coin value three fold.
Whether this will hold is anybody's guess....
An inflated balloon has a lot of volume, but very little mass...
2838  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 17, 2017, 09:00:22 AM
BTC is under attack again, but it looks like it's holding strong...
The good thing about BTC is that all the weight of the altcoiners that never really wanted to have BTC, but bought them just to get free SegWit2x coins has now been lifted, and the price has risen due to (mostly) genuine, new investors that want to join in. For this reason, I believe that the BCH camp will have a much harder time winning this weekend's race.
Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. BTC will come out stronger after all this, and many will learn a hard and painful lesson.
I know this may be an opportunity for all of us to increase our BTC stash by trading the battle, but I'm not good at this game and will choose to sit on the sidelines and watch it all from a distance.
