[ ... ]

I have done all this to date as a volunteer because I love bitcoin and hope to see it change the world for the better.

Do you honestly think that the motives of Jihan Wu and Roger Ver are to change the world for the better? Really? Have you followed their actions and their modus operandi? And you have decided to side with them and support Bcash? If that is true, then I'm afraid you are self-disrespecting your own achievements. It's sad, really...

Atleast we got snowflakes on cryptowatch  Grin

https://cryptowat.ch/kraken/btceur

They're cute, but I disabled them because they were slowing down my old PC... Too poor to upgrade. Especially now...  Sad

It's an interesting dilemma. Anyone with under a couple hundred bucks in Bitcoin is suddenly helpless to spend it.

This is interesting indeed. Lemme get my TREZOR out to check...

(secretly opens vault using combination from body-embedded RFID chip, takes TREZOR Slave Device #17, plugs to PC)

OK, I've just checked it:

High Fee:
Expected confirmation time: 20 minutes
Fee: 24.30 USD

Normal Fee:
Expected confirmation time: 1 hour
Fee: 23.10 USD

Economy Fee:
Expected confirmation time: 5 hours 30 minutes
Fee: 14.13 USD

Low Fee:
Expected confirmation time: 2 days 8 hours 10 minutes
Fee: 2.70 USD

Not great, but not as bad as triple-digit fees...

Electrum high fee is over a hundred bucks.

Forgot to mention that this transaction is to a SegWit address! Edited my post to include this.

Not great, certainly not coffee-capable, but not as bad as triple-digit fees... Also, on that TREZOR, the INPUTS are few and very large, so that helps lower the fees.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this transaction is to a SegWit address!

The problem with this graph is that it's in log scale, and the values are so compressed around the region of interest, that each pixels can represent thousands of dollars... Not accurate. This is only good for qualitative analysis. Any numerical values are lost in the noise. Only orders of magnitude can be read.

12345 € @ Kraken!

Count to five...

All that work we spent on memes...spoiled. I bet this was the big short. Wall street, if you are reading this, bite me sideways.

-Eliot

My thoughts exactly. All those late nights Photoshopping honey badgers, trains and solar eclipses... Now I even have to upgrade my Photoshop! You see, I only have CS6, and their Flame filter was introduced in the CC versions. It renders flames so well, will be put to good use for the new memes...

Guys, please don't.

We can occasionally talk about alts, but we have a long standing disgust and disdain for XRP (aka CentralizedPreminedBankerCoin) here that goes back years and years. IMO out of all the shitcoins, Ripple might be the worst. And it just won't die.

Noted!

I think almost all of us here are > 80% BTC vs. < 20% alts anyway. So alts rising (or falling) has only fun/news significance (for me at least).

Now let's get back to BTC... Personally I don't worry too much (yet) about the drop. It was long overdue and it's a breather for the beast. Looking forward to the next upward surge, which I sense will come VERY soon, it will be BIG, and it will be the new FLOOR for next year's rally to conquer 6-digit-land!
2691  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 21, 2017, 03:09:47 PM
Come on Ripple you can do it. Make Ver and Wu sweat.

Haha im loving it! Lucky i bought myself 10k more ripples on Monday  Grin 1$ hit, i wonder where this bull run will end  Cool

Nice one.

I only hold a few K but bought when all that cost just a few hundred bucks.

I hold several k of XRP... It's always nice to have variety. Funny thing is that I bought them using the airdropped coins, no fiat used. And I believe XRP is a serious coin. Serves a purpose.

XRP @ 1.04 € / $1.24 !!!

But my stash is overwhelmingly BTC. So, come on Honey BTCadger, WAKE UP!

Why not give the BITCH some of their own medicine and span the living shit our of their blocks?

Because Bitcoin is not supported by an organized mafia gang like Bcash is... Bitcoin isn't managed or "owned" by arrogant, selfish, sociopathic egomaniacs like Jihan Wu and Roger Ver. Bitcoin is the good student in the class, while Bcash is the bullying gang. But their time will come. Soon enough.
2693  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 21, 2017, 12:40:37 PM

Considering that this year we had a gain of more than 15x, reaching $50k is a mere 3x gain for next year. Quite a conservative estimate. Perhaps even $100k could be possible, if nothing seriously negative happens...

. You can smash it with a hammer, you can burn it in a fire,

Well, I must say that it will not work very well after that.

Sure, but your coins are perfectly safe!
2695  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 21, 2017, 12:19:00 PM
I've been reading in posts a few pages back, about people being afraid to flash a new f/w on their TREZOR and worrying about whether it will succeed or not, etc. I'm sorry to say that those who say this, appear to have a lack of understanding of how TREZOR, Ledger, and most other h/w wallets work...

If you have your Recovery Seed safely stored and accessible, there's absolutely no need to worry about TREZOR, Ledger, or any other piece of h/w. You can smash it with a hammer, you can burn it in a fire, you can toss it out the window, and your coins are still yours and fully accessible.

You can even use TREZOR's seed on a Ledger and it will work, and you will see your coins (which you think are stored deep inside the TREZOR) on the Ledger's screen! And vice versa! You can even write your own code (if you are a programmer) to decode the seed and turn it into the private keys needed to access your coins. Or use Mycelium's seed on a TREZOR, and the TREZOR will suddenly "see" all your Mycelium transactions! Magic? No, just standardization!

Speaking of f/w updates, what should worry us is not data corruption or failure to update, or bricking the h/w, but installing a tampered/hacked f/w version. I think there are reasonable measures that can be taken to avoid such an incident occurring, such as to always visit the manufacturer's site for updates, and check the site's authenticity.

TL;DR: Your coins = your private keys = your recovery seed. Just keep it safe and accessible, and never online. That's all you need to do. The TREZOR/Ledger h/w wallets are just a convenience for you to easily manage your coins. Erasing or destroying them will not affect your coins, provided you have the seed.

Trying to claim my bglod from Trezor is a right pain in the ass

How come?

In my case it was a piece of cake. Finished in under a minute. In the coin splitting tool I specified the Bitfinex BTG deposit address and they went straight there. Seed not compromised or revealed anywhere. Got some Monero with them at 1/3 of their current price. More than happy!

You are one of the lucky ones to have an existing bitfinex account. New registrations are now only allowed with a referral code, and it's impossible to get a referral code yet.

People without a bitfinex account will have to dump their BTG on a dodgier exchange like yobit.

Another option is to use Changelly. I've used them before, to change some BTG to another coin, and it worked flawlessly.

Incidentally, tying into my exchange with Bob, being "against" is usually an r trait, while being "for" is a K trait. As in, marxists are against the rich because they are evil thieving exploiters, while capitalists are for personal property rights. K's build themselves up, r's tear others down. A side effect of this is that there is no limit to personal growth for a K, while r's are limited by the relative status of everyone else.

I like that comment, thanks.

How do I vote for 23k on the Dec 31 poll? The $22k-$24k range is missing.

Both me and JJG already pointed this out a few days ago, but infofront probably missed our posts. I'm also waiting for him to add that missing range, so I can vote...
