Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still basically sideways but with a slight upward drift... currently $11761USD/$14742CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Maybe $12k over the weekend?

Seat belts save lives. So do masks.
That's so lame Jimbo.
How can you even compare those two things?

I could have also mentioned life jackets in speedboats (I don't need one, I'm a good swimmer!), safety harnesses, or any other life-saving devices.

I was comparing safety devices that crybabies won't use because they don't want to be told what to do by some "nanny state". No one's telling me what to do. Boo hoo hoo.

I suppose it was not a true comparison though... sea belts protect the wearer, while face masks protect everyone.

Facemasks are muzzles. This is how wild and free animals are tamed in the Covid-19 circus.

Seat belts are leashes. This is how wild and free animals are tethered in the highway circus.  Roll Eyes

Not to mention condoms! See, the Orwellian state is trying to get in our bedrooms too!

Hi guys,

Typcroni44n shows up again, surprise, surprise... Returning pretty often for not wanting to be part of our boy's club, eh?  Cheesy

Well, the universe seems to put me on some tests before it might finally collapse on the 17th.
Wifey drove home from work, but instead of joining her brother's birthday party, she got into a car accident.  Undecided
74yo lady in front of her missed her turn and hit the brakes, honey bunny managed to stop about a foot behind her. So far so good, but the two ladies behind crashed my babe's car into the 74yo granny's volkswagen caddy. Hospital, x-ray, CAT scan. No cracks or dislocations, luckily, but severe spinal trauma. Now she's in serious pain, the safety belt left an impressive mark on her chest. She's in home care since today, so i'll be occasionally reading WO in the next few days or weeks, depending on how things develop.

I hope we broke through the $14k when she's fine again and i'm back posting my usual nonsense.

Drive carefully.

The car right behind her got the windshield smashed and every single air bag went off inside.
My wife isn't tall, so the headrest at the lowest setting protected her head/neck, just the sudden snap forward and the compression of the belt hit her pretty hard. It was a small car, but it held up surprisingly well. She didn't really remember the second impact, more like a fading dream after waking up, she said.
They put her on a low dosed opioid for some days, we hope to be able to replace them with ibuprofen asap.
She always was a careful driver, though it will take some time for her to be comfortable with driving a car again.

Thanks for all the best wishes.
I don't hang around in other communities, so they mean quite a lot to me.

Man, that hurt just by reading it!

Wishing her all the best, and soon to recover with nothing left on her from the crash but a story to tell.

Bitcoin price action will surely help her recovery. Mentally at least.  Wink

All this I can take, as long as the girl is "girly", i.e., she behaves like a female and not like a male.  Wink

The sight of a woman holding a sledge hammer is a no-no for me. Instant turn-off...

I hope you give your lovely ladyfriends fair warning of this.

If on your wedding day she moves a hedge trimmer out of the way of her bridal train and you scissor kick her in the throat and run for the hills she'll feel like she's owed an explanation.

Hedge trimmer? Man, I had to look that up! Hopefully my future wife won't be that hairy!  Cheesy

I like my females "girly", i.e., closest to their nature.

Natural girls: hopefully not the ones with hairy pussies and armpits, no make up, unshaved legs no better not if you ask me... Grin

Ugh, these algorithmic trading patterns are so exhausting and predictable.

Prepare for the "grind it down to just above $11k, spike down hard below $11k, raise it back to $10,990 and goes sideways there for a while...then short squeeze hard bart" pattern.   Roll Eyes

Yeah, we can handle noise... Even of large amplitudes... It's the trend that matters, and that's going up.

Going down? BTFD!
Going up? Enjoy the ride!

It's the sideways action that is the most boring IMHO.

HoDL!

Wow, just observing German text makes you scared even without understanding it!

I wonder how it would feel to date a German woman. I guess each culture has its own characteristics, and the same could be said about any other nation. To me, this language feels too "cold" and "rough"...

She would beat the shit out of you.. maybe with one hand, like a sledge hammer.

Don't even try, AlcoHoDL; you don't stand a chance.

I wouldn't want to! I like my females "girly", i.e., closest to their nature. The mere sight of the sledge hammer in her hand would be an instant turn-off for me...  Roll Eyes

LOL! It's a woman... Sorry ladies, I just couldn't help it.

FWIW, in the UK, a second-hand car is more valuable when the owner/seller is a woman. In the ads they advertise it as "lady owner", meaning that the car has been treated well because a woman is not supposed to abuse the car as much as a man would. In many other countries though, it's the exact opposite, i.e., a woman driver/owner is an indication that the car may have been misused, roughed up and worn out due to poor handling.

When I was in the UK, I bought a lady-owned second-hand car, which was in showroom condition. So, at least in the UK, lady owners seem to take care of their cars.

I saw this in the thread though... ?

"These arrests/cases have all happened over the last year or two, not the last 24 hours. "

https://twitter.com/SubtleBodhi/status/1290500293893844997

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_M._Cohen

2008 for that one. Plenty more where that came from.

It's interesting that most of the political figures mentioned in the above Twitter thread are republicans.

It reminded me of a documentary I once watched, where it was mentioned that a US cable TV survey revealed that the overwhelming majority of hardcore adult channel subscriptions came from neighborhoods occupied by predominantly republican, church-going families.

An interesting correlation...

correlation to what?  Stupidity?  Free porn is plentiful on the internet - why would anyone pay for a cable subscription?

I think the documentary was very old, long before ADSL/VDSL connections... At that time you could only rent tapes or watch via cable TV.

Wiki asking for donation...

Tell them "Donate your mother if you want donate!"

Edit: This was meant for the lulz! Actually I do like Wikipedia, IIRC I've even donated some money to them (a long time ago). Not sure if they have a hidden agenda and all that conspiracy theory stuff, but I do enjoy their articles. In science/technology subjects (which I'm mostly interested in) they are OK.

Ledger App Isolation Bypass
04 August 2020

https://monokh.com/posts/ledger-app-isolation-bypass
Quote
This post will disclose a vulnerability in the Ledger hardware wallets that can lead to theft of user funds.

An attacker can exploit this method to transfer Bitcoin while the user is under the impression that a transaction of another, less valuable altcoin (e.g. Litecoin, Testnet Bitcoins, Bcash, etc.) is being executed

If you use bitcoin forks on your device, you could be affected. You should avoid using these ledger apps until fixes are available.

The issue has been disclosed to Ledger but remains unaddressed. See Disclosure Timeline.

I've always preferred my Trezor more than my Ledger; this just reinforces that belief

To upgrade the firmware on the Ledger you have to delete the "Bitcoin app" first. Very scary process. I don't like clicking a button that says "Do you want to delete your bitcoins? Are you really really sure??"

Somehow it remembers the pass phase so you don't have to reenter it, but still.....

They are wasting everyone's time putting shitcoin support on this thing, and (as now demonstrated) increasing the attack surface. Very stupid IMHO.

FWIW, deleting the "Bitcoin app" should not scare you at all. If it does, then you either haven't understood how a wallet works, or you haven't followed the appropriate steps to secure it. A seed can't be deleted. As long as you have your seed securely backed up (ideally in multiple places, physically separate from each other), then you have no reason to be scared. Trezors/Ledgers are just fancy containers.

Reality check: if you feel worried and scared at the thought of your Trezor/Ledger being lost, stolen, destroyed, you're doing it wrong.

If we're going to spend an entire August in 11xxx range... well, that's fine with me.

It's a good range!

Yes, it is.

But we are greedy.

We want MOAR!

Pokémon doll still 3D printing... 13h 42m left.

Number go up.
Volume go up.

$12k (10k €) / BTC before doll ready?

How the fuck do you print a Pokémon doll?  That's uncle-ly love, for reals.

Yes, you can! The doll has finished printing and is super cute. Took 36 hours to print, and is personalized for my niece. It was very difficult to print, due to many overhang areas requiring heavy use of PVA material for supports (3D printing experts will understand).

Love my little niece, that's true.

3D printing a Pokémon doll as a special present to my niece. Uncle duties...

That's a bit of a stark contrast, AlcoHoDL, all contained within one post.   Shocked Shocked

Wow, right before my previous post! Are we telepathically connected?

Believe me, I thought about the contrast issue.

Haiku/Uncle duties conflicting... LOL.

Her daddy is a coiner. Thanks to me. Although he holds much more alts than BTC. I've warned him, but he has fallen into the "BTC too expensive" trap. I hope the incoming bull run will find him HoDLing some good amount of corn.

You may not have received the truly - or would the correct word be "literally?" "internal" memo:   You, me and JSRAW are likely just the same peeps.   Shocked Shocked

Pray for your brother (or is it brother in law?) that he someday (before it is too late) see the light.  But to each their own and at their own pace.  Many folks want to outsmart the situation, and perhaps he will find a profitable way without losing too much along the way, perhaps.  Not everyone was made to be a bitcoiner at this particular time in the bitcon's life.

I will tell him again this weekend when we'll have our weekly BBQ. He insists "he now understands how this game works" and aims at certain altcoins to maximize profits, with the ultimate goal of using said profits to buy BTC. Let's hope he's right lucky enough to end up in profits in the first place... He may get lucky though, as the upcoming BTC mega-pump will likely drag most major altcoins with it, at least in the short term.

In the 2017 pump, his $4,000 investment (in alts) increased to $50,000. But he never sold anything, and he's now below his initial investment. Let's hope he is wiser this time. For his sake.

Huh At the risk of uttering a tautology, exactly as much bitcoin is bought as the amount that is sold.

Touche!

When I say "seller" or "buyer", I mean the trader who executes (completes) the trade.

It's a critically stable system. It's a maker/taker balance, and sensitive to initial conditions. An inverted pendulum kind of thing.

It's beautiful.
