The Art of BTC HoDLing

  • The Art of BTC HoDLing is acquired through years of patience, deep understanding of the tech, and a firm belief in what BTC can do and how it can change the world for the better.

  • You know that you have mastered the Art of BTC HoDLing when you are not worried at all when a dump occurs. You just smile because you are trained to expect them, and know what's to come.

  • You know that you have mastered the Art of BTC HoDLing when you are not overly happy when a pump occurs. What's a 50% rise in BTC value? Nothing! Can it be compared with your current gain of xxxx%? Absolutely not! You just smile and save the real excitement for when BTC = $100k ~ $1m (10x ~ 100x, depending on your wants and needs).

  • You don't check the BTC/$ price as often as you used to.

  • When you see/hear the word HoDL, you immediately think of Guinness and their famous tagline: "good things come to those who wait".

  • You don't ever dare buy pizza with BTC, because you know the consequences and won't be able to live with yourself.

  • You know who Carolina is, and what instrument she plays.

Have fun WO brothers!

If anyone wants to help Peter McCormack with evidence that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, you should send it to him now. Peter has until thursday to produce evidence.

If Peter can't come up with any evidence, people could lose faith in BTC and tank the price. But that's pure speculation on the BTC price.

WTF is Peter McCormack?

$10,600

Nice & gently... So satisfying to see it rise like that...

The problem is because the market is fairly easy to manipulate atm I can see us touching 11k & then a whale or two dumping hard to take us into the 9k’s again.

There’s no FOMO atm so it’s relatively easy to make quick, easy & fairly significant profits if you have deep enough pockets to move the market.

I worry about that too. Happened too many times recently. Could have used it to gain a lot from trading, but I'm in HoDL mode (as always), so I just observe alternating reds and greens... I think the 2018 mega-pump and subsequent dump will drive many to SoDL as we climb to $20k and beyond, thus slowing the rise.

Got to be patient and hope for 6 figures by 1-2 years post-halving (quite possible IMHO).

@jbreher: I read about CSW's wallet-cracking attempts here at the WO thread. You are assuming that Satoshi has used a cryptographically strong passphrase to secure his keys. It's a valid assumption which I also share and have mentioned in the discussion, but it appears you are reading only parts of my posts... Note, however, that, at the time those wallets were created, Bitcoin was nearly worthless. I'm pretty sure many users at the time had completely unsecured wallets in their PCs, they just didn't care much about security. That's what CSW is allegedly attempting to exploit.

I get all that, and largely agree. I however counter with 'I read ON THE INNERWEBZ...' (i.e., so it must be true).

IOW, I question whether there is any truth to this story at all. I don't doubt you have read such. I have read such as well. But never from any credible source, and never with any source attribution.

OK, I think we agree on this. I was never meant to say it was necessarily true. I just found it interesting and mentioned it, in relation to CSW's comment that Bitcoin will somehow die in 2019. I saw/heard this comment being spoken by CSW himself in a YouTube video. Found it, link below (just press Play, I've positioned it at the exact time he says it):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXMCzhwm554&feature=youtu.be&t=1205

I watched it again and it seems unrelated to the wallet cracking rumour, but still quite interesting IMHO. I must admit that I felt a little scared when I first heard that comment. I really thought he knows or is able to do/cause something very big that could result in a total collapse of Bitcoin. Most likely just CSW spreading fear...

Prophetic! Good find. It describes the main features of Bitcoin pretty accurately.

Good morning all! Getting ready to go to work and browsing WO... An essential start of the day!

Too many posts regarding the passphrase security issue, so I'll respond without quoting. About "iLOVEbitcointalkBECAUSEitMAKESmeHAPPY", OK, maybe I overdid it and used too many words, it's not too bad of a passphrase after all... But what about "iLOVEbitcoin"? Would you use it? You get what I mean. If one uses TrueCrypt to secure a wallet and chooses such a small passphrase, then his keys are clearly NOT secure, and it's not TrueCrypt's fault.

@jbreher: I read about CSW's wallet-cracking attempts here at the WO thread. You are assuming that Satoshi has used a cryptographically strong passphrase to secure his keys. I suspect that such a wallet (belonging to Satoshi or a close friend of his, and in the possession of CSW) may not even exist, and it may all be CSW spreading fear and misinformation, which is what he usually does, has done many times in the past, and is something that fits his character and methods very well (I know, your grandma taught you to ignore human behaviour, but...), so all is good in the BTC camp.
2450  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 29, 2019, 09:07:10 PM
There is an objective: unfucken the protocol, returning it to the original version.

So the original version called for bitcoin acting as a file and data storage service?

And a service that will have to be run by nation states and/or giant corporations, and will be permissioned, censored and controlled by them?   (assuming it can work at all)

Good questions. The shills from the BSV camp want bitcoin to be a centralized, corporate tool. This is one of the reasons people dont believe CSW is Satoshi.

I read somewhere that CSW has in his possession a wallet belonging to Satoshi or one of his close friends (can't remember the details). He is currently using a huge computer farm to brute-force it open and get hold of the private key. His friend, pedophile Calvin Ayre is funding and helping him do it.

I wonder what will happen if they manage to crack that wallet. CSW will be able to "prove" he's Satoshi by signing a message using the cracked private key.

Well, I don't think it'll be so easy to crack the wallet anyway, so nothing may happen. But it's interesting to know what they're up to. Maybe that's why CSW said that 2019 will be the year that BTC will die...

If Satoshi is Paul Le Roux, then this wallet is in the hands of the CIA, not CSW.

It is said this wallet is protected by TrueCrypt, so only a quantum computer will be able to crack it.

TrueCrypt is a very powerful encryption s/w. I use it every day at work (I'm handling highly classified data and I rely on it for their protection). However, if the passphrase is poorly chosen (say, something like "iLOVEbitcointalkBECAUSEitMAKESmeHAPPY"), then it can be very easily cracked using a $200 PC. Just because you're using TrueCrypt doesn't necessarily mean your data is secure. It's how you use it that matters. It's like choosing "1234" as your credit card PIN. It's not the algorithm that's weak, it's the user that's dumb.

So, the fact that the wallet is protected by TrueCrypt doesn't guarantee anything...

But... We're talking about Satoshi here, so I'm sure he has used a cryptographically strong passphrase.

This is CSW propaganda.  There is no such wallet.

And even if pretending there was such a wallet, then he doesn’t have a chance between now and the heat death of the universe.

Edit:  just caught up to the tip of the thread and this has already been said, but leaving this post here anyway.

About the ability to crack a wallet, it could be possible and even easy to crack, if the original owner of the wallet has chosen a weak passphrase. But, assuming the original wallet owner is Satoshi, surely, he must have used a strong passphrase, so all is good.

[...insert waiting skeleton meme here...]

As for the info being CSW propaganda, yes, it probably is.

I don’t believe it’s possible to brute force a private key, certainly not in our lifetime with current computer tech any way.

CW is an utter moron & it’s probably best to totally disregard anything he claims he can so. He’s full of shit and the sooner he’s in our rear view mirror the better.

He won’t be signing a message from a Satoshi owned wallet.

I second that. If the wallet is properly protected (with a long, well chosen passphrase) it's just not crackable in our lifetime. I think he may be betting on a weak passphrase or he knows something that reduces the search space, or he's simple bluffing and feeding his egomania (the latter being the most probable).

I read somewhere...

There is literally not one shred of proof for one single molecule of this entire story.

Nothing proves Dave Kleiman had anything to do with anything. Double nothing to point to BSV's Fat Controller being adjacent to it.

Yup, that's the name I couldn't remember. I think CSW is just playing the communications game, trying to spread misinformation and fear. Not for long, 2019 will pass, the 2020 halving will come, BTC will rise to 6+ figures and he'll disappear, except maybe as meme material.

Definitely difficult to understand how a kind of "infinite" block size brings bitcoin "back" to its roots.

One thing that is interesting is to have some of these dumbass approaches (or experimentations by scam artists) to show through practice what NOT to do.

If Bitcoin (BTC) had infinite block size, it would be littered with near-infinitely-sized spam attacks, and the worst part is that all this garbage would have to be preserved forever as part of the blockchain, forever filling up TB upon TB of storage space... There's a reason why Satoshi included the 1 MB cap in the code.

The problem is that inexperienced programmers tend to prefer the "bigger is better" approach, failing to foresee its side-effects. Fortunately, they are not in control of Bitcoin.

Alone at home today...

Just served my lunch in front of the PC and eating while reading WO...

Lots of pages to read, and boy it feels sooo fcuking cool!

Missing r0ach... I absolutely need to have a dose of Schelling Point, Exter's Pyramid, Nash Equilibrium, Kalergi Plan, Daily Stormer... And, oh man, how I really, REALLY need to hear the "designed to centralize" line... Gets me all worked up inside...down there...you know...

Must be the beer...

Sorry guys... HoDL!

Good bye GitHub, welcome MetaNet and the power of BitCoin
https://codeonchain.network/

You can simply use the bsvpush command line tool to upload an entire folder by running: bsvpush push
https://github.com/jolonf/bsvpush

Nobody here or in the world - outside of BSV brainlets such as yourself - gives a shit about your farcical Faketoshi crap. Wake me up when BSV flips BCH in market cap.

There exists a problem: Microsoft is enforcing geofencing on the repository undergirding the world's most prominent FOSS VCS.

There exists a solution under development: An eventual git-workalike whose repository is built upon a decentralized, permissionless blockchain.

And all you can see is: Aussie man bad!

SMH

Ohhh... How I love this thread...

All those posts, that we are all making... Permanently stored in BitcoinTalk's servers...

It will be so satisfying when those posts are quoted in a few years' time!  Wink

The #learntocode meme people post pretending coding is the future of employment is hilariously stupid.  You need to be a flat out fool to not be able to tell the video games industry is in an insane bubble right now.  There's so many games coming out per day you can't even play a fraction of them even if you pirate them all, don't work, and play video games 24 hours a day lol.  Here's some guy on Youtube today talking about how he sent out 1000 job applications and got one interview, and a guy in the comment section with 200 and no job or interview.

Coding is a fucking bubble.  Telling everyone "learn to code" is like telling everyone on earth "learn to be a plumber dude".  In an economic downturn, nobody even needs any virtual jibberish located inside of a computer so almost the entire industry is expendable except for a few govt, healthcare, billing, etc, related jobs.  Of course, these people's posts are likely also an indicator of the general direction of the economy at the moment as well.

And yet, you're using technology to post in this forum. The above text has been processed by several pieces of code, on your computer, on several servers, and on mine, before appearing on my screen.

r0ach, you remind me of Ted Kaczynski...
