Nice & gently... So satisfying to see it rise like that... The problem is because the market is fairly easy to manipulate atm I can see us touching 11k & then a whale or two dumping hard to take us into the 9k’s again. There’s no FOMO atm so it’s relatively easy to make quick, easy & fairly significant profits if you have deep enough pockets to move the market. I worry about that too. Happened too many times recently. Could have used it to gain a lot from trading, but I'm in HoDL mode (as always), so I just observe alternating reds and greens... I think the 2018 mega-pump and subsequent dump will drive many to SoDL as we climb to $20k and beyond, thus slowing the rise. Got to be patient and hope for 6 figures by 1-2 years post-halving (quite possible IMHO). |

I get all that, and largely agree. I however counter with 'I read ON THE INNERWEBZ...' (i.e., so it must be true). IOW, I question whether there is any truth to this story at all. I don't doubt you have read such. I have read such as well. But never from any credible source, and never with any source attribution. OK, I think we agree on this. I was never meant to say it was necessarily true. I just found it interesting and mentioned it, in relation to CSW's comment that Bitcoin will somehow die in 2019. I saw/heard this comment being spoken by CSW himself in a YouTube video. Too many posts regarding the passphrase security issue, so I'll respond without quoting. About "iLOVEbitcointalkBECAUSEitMAKESmeHAPPY", OK, maybe I overdid it and used too many words, it's not too bad of a passphrase after all... But what about "iLOVEbitcoin"? Would you use it? You get what I mean. If one uses TrueCrypt to secure a wallet and chooses such a small passphrase, then his keys are clearly NOT secure, and it's not TrueCrypt's fault.

I suspect that such a wallet (belonging to Satoshi or a close friend of his, and in the possession of CSW) may not even exist, and it may all be CSW spreading fear and misinformation, which is what he usually does, has done many times in the past, and is something that fits his character and methods very well (I know, your grandma taught you to ignore human behaviour, but...), so all is good in the BTC camp.

It is said this wallet is protected by TrueCrypt, so only a quantum computer will be able to crack it. TrueCrypt is a very powerful encryption s/w. I use it every day at work (I'm handling highly classified data and I rely on it for their protection). However, if the passphrase is poorly chosen (say, something like "iLOVEbitcointalkBECAUSEitMAKESmeHAPPY"), then it can be very easily cracked using a $200 PC. Just because you're using TrueCrypt doesn't necessarily mean your data is secure. It's how you use it that matters. It's like choosing "1234" as your credit card PIN. It's not the algorithm that's weak, it's the user that's dumb. So, the fact that the wallet is protected by TrueCrypt doesn't guarantee anything... But... I don’t believe it’s possible to brute force a private key, certainly not in our lifetime with current computer tech any way. CW is an utter moron & it’s probably best to totally disregard anything he claims he can so. He’s full of shit and the sooner he’s in our rear view mirror the better. He won’t be signing a message from a Satoshi owned wallet. I second that. If the wallet is properly protected (with a long, well chosen passphrase) it's just not crackable in our lifetime. I think he may be betting on a weak passphrase or he knows something that reduces the search space, or he's simple bluffing and feeding his egomania (the latter being the most probable). I read somewhere...
There is literally not one shred of proof for one single molecule of this entire story. Nothing proves Dave Kleiman had anything to do with anything. Double nothing to point to BSV's Fat Controller being adjacent to it. Yup, that's the name I couldn't remember. One thing that is interesting is to have some of these dumbass approaches (or experimentations by scam artists) to show through practice what NOT to do. If Bitcoin (BTC) had infinite block size, it would be littered with near-infinitely-sized spam attacks, and the worst part is that all this garbage would have to be preserved forever as part of the blockchain, forever filling up TB upon TB of storage space... There's a reason why Satoshi included the 1 MB cap in the code. The problem is that inexperienced programmers tend to prefer the "bigger is better" approach, failing to foresee its side-effects. Fortunately, they are not in control of Bitcoin. |

Here's some guy on Youtube today talking about how he sent out 1000 job applications and got one interview, and a guy in the comment section with 200 and no job or interview. Coding is a fucking bubble. Telling everyone "learn to code" is like telling everyone on earth "learn to be a plumber dude". In an economic downturn, nobody even needs any virtual jibberish located inside of a computer so almost the entire industry is expendable except for a few govt, healthcare, billing, etc, related jobs.
