I think it was a sobering reality check and a signal that they need to continue working hard to repeat their success and nothing will be given to them for free. There was almost something magical about their undefeated streak, especially given the 3 recent 90+ minute equalisers, which could create an impression that there's some higher power behind them preventing them from losing. They might have believed it a little bit too much and got a cold shower.

They actually had to struggle with the reality of loosing as it came like a surprise since it's the first they had to experience since this season and obviously it wasn't such that they were expecting because it was not just a regular league game but a very crucial and vital game for them that was a determinant to their chances of been in the record of champions and an uncommon record in the whole of Europe.

I'm sure this is not Xabi fault, but if we look deeper, this defeat was actually caused by the unpreparedness of the Leverkusen players who had to compete strongly with Atalanta and most people who saw yesterday's match would say the same thing if Leverkusen was not ready to beat Atalanta because in terms of experience it is very influential.
you can see how Atalanta looked very confident against Leverkusen to reduce the mentality of the Leverkusen players and this is where Leverkusen failed to win the treble winner.

Bayer Leverkusen last night could not continue with their unbeaten and impressive run as they were convincingly beaten by Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final. Before the match, a lot of people were backing them to defeat their Italian opponents and win the European trophy but they couldn't because they were to relaxed in that game.
However, despite the result of that game, there's no doubt to the fact that Bayer Leverkusen have simply been the best German team since the start of the season. I fully agree on that , he played a very nice and good season at Leverkusen and also the last games in the National Team.
About a sign to Real Madrid in the next year i guess it can be possible after todays announcement from Toni Kroos that he will be end his Career after the EM.
Would be sad for the german league and Leverkusen but Wirtz would be fit into Real Madrid and he can be gettinf another big german player.

Wirtz is in the squad for Euro 2024 as well by the way which is quite natural.    Leverkusen has nearly all of their German players in the Euro 2024 squad (They don't have so many German players in the squad though. ).

Anyways, I also think the same. Real Madrid would absolutely go for Wirtz especially after Kroos' retirement decision. They are trying to fill the squad with young and talented players to build their future over them. This is a very nice thinking. I also don't expect Wirtz to have problems on adapting there. It is difficult to see a player having adaptation problems while playing for Real Madrid. But the competition level in his position will get harder for sure.

I think Wirtz has become a phenomenon in his own right during his time at Leverkusen and since suffering a serious injury which kept him out for a very long time but this has not been an obstacle for him to continue to shine. Well it's actually feels quite disappointing after all the effort they had invested in their performance this season and they couldn't get to win the treble but then they actually tried well enough that we cannot totally get to blame them as it wasn't easy keeping the records they were able to keep since this season, we know this was a very crucial one for them but football cones with its own surprises at some point.

For a first attempt not winning the treble isn't really a bad one as they may be able to give it a trial probably some other time but been able to aswell maintain same energy in the bundesliga and winning the title aswell is enough achievement this season actually and they they were able to set to records in the bundesliga and the whole of Europe and in football history at Large so they have been able to achieve quiet a whole lot, although the Europa would have added to making the achievement robust but then I don't think it's really bad they weren't able to achieve it.
