The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Hello traders.

Am I the only one having problems just now using Bitfinex?

Since yesterday, I was long in BTC there for about 27.5 BTC. Today I was earning about 20$ and suddenly, when i readjusted the stop loss (I had it in 15$ and moved it to 16$), my active position automatically jumped off and sold all the BTC.

But the money isn't in my wallet. My swap was about 0,1%. I wasn't even 1:1 leveraged, because I thought lenders were asking too much for the loans, So I don't know what the problem was.

if you did not use leverage and did not take loans you did not trade on margin  is more likelly that you use the exchange market

what you need to do

Thanks. I think I found the problem.

I pressed the wrong button changing the stop loss.  Embarrassed

Pushed a limit-sell at 16$ instead a stop-sell. But I still cant understand why did I lose all my earnings doing that.

Maybe when I pressed the wrong button (limit.sell 28BTC at 16$) Bitfinex sold the 28 coins at that price and not to the nearest Bid prices?

it appears to me that you did short and lost 33USD
now is time to send a email to support because involves personal information so Ralph will check it and deal with this issue (is not good to post it on public forum personal info)

if that's is true you sir did discover a bug(thx for reporting), Ralph is able to edit your position to the execution price and fix the bug

I talked to the Bitfinex owner. He was very kind and helped me to understand my mistake.
Now here I must warn other noobs, like me, that want to start trading. Be careful pushing your orders!!!! And specially do not mislead limit with stop.

Hi Polvos,

Yes indeed, it's time for me to put a warning check when you place limit or stop orders at the "wrong" price.

In your case, if you were not executed at bid price, it's because they were limit buy orders waiting to be filled that got filled at 16 (you can see that because in your ledger entries the trading fees for this order of 28 btc is 0 (BFX fees).

You made 2 other users very happy, they bought bitcoins at 16 instead of 18.

In your case, because I feel there should be a warning in the case you put a wrong order, I'll reimburse you the trading fees of yesterday and today and half your loss (rounded up to 2 btc).

Best regards and thanks for your trust

Hi Polvos, hi everyone,

I added a javascript check on the trading page. Now, if you put a limit buy above the current price or limit sell below current price, you will have to confirm your order or cancel it. (and the other way for stop orders).

Thanks you and happy trading,
Raphael

looks like a good idea...

Is there some kind of headroom worked in?
E.g., right now the highest asks are at 16.18 -- when I try to add a stop loss order at 16.10, I get that warning "Are you sure to put a STOP SELL order above the ticker price?" -- when I use 15.10, then there is no warning. Is this how you intended it to work?

yes because stop sell is to sell bitcoins if the price goes down so is logical to do that

a easy example
1 buy 1 bitcoin at 5 usd
2 now the price is 10
3 you set a stop sell order at 8 usd

this order is designed to get you out of the market at set price in this example 8 and protect your 3 usd gains,  so is working like intended  no need to get a warning

OK, so in my case there was either some hickup with the rate feed and calculation, or there is some saftey margin worked into that warning function.

did some experiments.
Current rate 16.49

Set stop loss order at

16.20 -> warning
16.10 -> warning
16.09 -> no warning
16.00 -> no warning

Hello Ichthyo,

Right on spot! The javascript checker wasn't updating the rate properly, so if you was staying on the trading page during price move, the check was not accurate. That's corrected, no you won't get false warning like that.

Thanks for this Smiley

Hope last night trading session didn't exhausted you too much.

Hope last night trading session didn't exhausted you too much.

This little crash yesterday was probably the first fire test for Bitfinex, wasn't it?

Anyway, judging from a users perspective, the performance was OK-ish. Maybe slightly more sluggish, but not really an issue. Bitfinex is not fast enough to allow grabbing really interesting offers when the market is moving quickly, but I don't think that is a real issue, because situations like yesterday are the exception. On the other hand, at some times, bitfinex was still updating, while both bitcoincharts and clarkmoody stalled. Another feature I learned to love yesterday is the ability to borrow the leverage beforehand, e.g. when you expect a good opportunity in the next 15 minutes
