This should be made water and dust proof.
Also why is the connection not bluetooth instead of usb? That connector will wear out.
It'll be dust proof but not water proof. The device has no battery in this version, so you cannot "just use bluetooth instead of USB". Oh no battery? Didn't realize that. Smart move. I didn't imply it was easily done, just wondering how long a micro-usb connector will last. For 1.3btc i would want it to be waterproof. |

In my 10+ years of professional computer work I have never seen a USB plug so worn it no longer works. They can withstand a long operational lifetime. I would say for a real savings account you should maintain a true solid offline account, like the physical Bitcoins or something similar. This device helps bridge the gap to make offline spending easier for other things. |

I would say for a real savings account you should maintain a true solid offline account, like the physical Bitcoins or something similar. This device helps bridge the gap to make offline spending easier for other things. That's because 5 year old hardware is replaced & any port that survives ten years was not used much. Micro USB ports are rated for 10,000 cycles (insertions). At ten a day that's less than 3 years. Won't be an issue for most people, but its something to think about. |

I can testify to the contrary. Our retail shops use compact cameras (usually Canon) to take photos for eBay and if they don't drop them the MiniUSB socket is the first thing to fail. They always do... But that's not saying it can't be done right  It just need to be designed carefully. |

I can attest to the Canon camera problem (my Ixus which is otherwise a great camera now has a lot of trouble with its MiniUSB and I don't use it that much).

I understand that you can maintain a paper copy of a passphrase to recover the private key from the Trezor. But I like you're concept too.. a second identical Trezor to back up the first, and a third to backup the second (just in case!) - it could be great for sales. |

Wouldn't the wallet have to support it in order for the user to be prompted to sign the TX on the Trezor?
If the client is unsupported, does it just generate a raw TX for you to use?

That's a very ambitious goal. Anyway, I can imagine it "will work with every major bitcoin wallet" - they will want to support Trezor. |

Sorry if this is a stupid question but why do you need kickstarter? If it's up front money you need to begin mass production couldn't you just ask for donations with BTC and whoever donates gets their BTC back plus a bit extra back within a time frame?

No, because they can't use bitcoin to pay for production and don't want to be exposed to risk caused by price fluctuations. |

so now all a thieves has to do is find someone with a huge bitcoin wallet. sniff out their ip, reverse lookup ther vpn to find there real address, narrow down your location, come and take you hostage at gun point and force you to give over your "hardware wallet" usb. this makes bitcoin no different than real money now in my opinion. |

If you reserve one key in the device for signing messages you have a device that can securely sign messages that can't be forged unless they have the device, no one could steal your identity online with viruses or corrupt sites. |
