Just wondering if it is mandatory to use myTREZOR with this device
For the moment, myTREZOR is the only wallet working with TREZOR. Some other wallets are working on integrating TREZOR support and we strongly encourage that so people can have their choice. Anyway, many people like myTREZOR for its simple interface, accessibility and security... We will be adding new features that are being requested, as mentioned in earlier posts.

That is unfortunate, as I was lead to believe that Bitcoin Qt now known as Bitcoin Core as well as MultiBit, Electrum, and others would be able to be used with Trezor, when i preordered almost a year ago. Thank you for the fast reply.

Contact the respective developers, maybe donate or help out, if you want to speed things up.

I agree with you but we need to be patient and let the wallet developers implement new BIPS which are already implemented by Trezor, in order to be compatible. We're talking mainly about BIP32, BIP44, BIP39...

To be exact, Trezor needs just BIP32 and BIP39 to be supported by client. BIP44 is needed only if client want to see all accounts, transaction history and balances produced by myTREZOR. Good example of such software is Wallet32, Android app supporting all Trezor/myTrezor BIPs. As Wallet32 implements BIP39 and BIP44 it is possible to use it for redeeming Recovery seeds produced by Trezor, for example in case of losing Trezor device and the need of spending coins ASAP. Warning: By importing Recovery seed to your Android phone you're exposing your bitcoins to any malware on your phone and you're losing protection provided by TREZOR.

Wallet for change money don't need to be as secure, because people usually don't take all their lifetime savings to bar.
I do this all the time Unfortunately this has the disadvantage of resulting in some serious hangovers the next day...

Warning: By importing Recovery seed to your Android phone you're exposing your bitcoins to any malware on your phone and you're losing protection provided by TREZOR. I decided to test this. Downloaded the wallet32 ap. When I went to recover wallet it asked which version of the word list to use. I left it at 0.4 and continued. It also asked me for the number of accounts and defaulted to 2. I had only created one account on my Trezor so I set it to one. I entered the words and did not spell one of the words correctly - which it caught, totally cool. I corrected the spelling error and it accepted the word list. it then scanned the block chain. But at the end of the scan it did not find anything. So questions are: Has this wallet been tested to be compatible with the Trezor? What version does the Trezor use? 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 or 0.5? Also I notice the paths on the Trezor are M/44 whereas the paths on wallet32 are M/0. Is this important? I checked and they obviously do not create the same key pair sequence.

The way I understand HD wallets this is definitely a (the?) problem. Not sure why trezor uses 44.

Purpose is a constant set to 44' (or 0x8000002C) following the BIP43 recommendation. It indicates that the subtree of this node is used according to this specification.

I'm having trouble: a transaction on the blockchain since about 10 hours shows as unconfirmed in myTrezor.com wallet. It's outgoing.
Also I can't initiate any new transaction, "not enough funds". There's plenty of funds.
I suspect some problem with the backend?
Can someone confirm / deny he's also having backend-related problems?

Wallet 32 is TREZOR compatible, but you have to make sure you are running version at least 0.2.5, where BIP39 and BIP44 were properly implemented. Older versions use different approach and thus are not compatible.

I uninstalled the wallet32 application and then redownloaded it. I opened it and the about screen showed "Version is 0.2.5 (15-May-2014)". I got "No Wallet Found" with the three choices: "Create New Wallet", "Restore Wallet" and "Pair with Wallet on Other Device". My use case is to pretend I have lost my Trezor so "Restore Wallet" made the most sense. I selected that option. I created and confirmed my passcode and then entered my 12 word sequence. I changed the number of accounts to restore from two to one since I had only created one account on my Trezor. This time I selected "Version 0.5, current wallets" instead of leaving the default setting of "Version 0.4, before ~15-May-2014". Leaving it on the default setting of version 0.4 was my (dumb in retrospect) mistake.I then pressed "Restore Wallet", got "Setting Up Wallet", then "Sync Progress". It took about five minutes to scan the block chain for the transactions. Wallet was restored! We have a great "lost my Trezor" option in place. I now plan to wipe my Trezor and create a new deterministic wallet there and play with the wallet32 application using the BTC that have now been "transferred" to it. Even without the Trezor compatibility, which is fantastic for those of us with Trezors(!), the wallet32 application is a sweet little clean wallet all on its own. Very well done. Is the dev of wallet32 in here? Great job!

Just to make sure I did add a second account to both the Trezor and the wallet32 and as expected they both created exactly the same key pair/Bitcoin address sequence for the second accounts on both devices.

Exactly. Standards are great! :-) But let me repeat what Slush posted above: If you import your TREZOR mnemonic into Wallet32 you lose protection that TREZOR offers, because now your phone shares the same private data.

Interesting Trezor display issue: I sent 0.5 BTC to the first address in my second account and in the same transaction I sent 0.5 BTC to the second address of my second account. I got the 1.0 BTC OK in the second account of the wallet but the transaction display only shows one transaction of 1.0 into the first address of the second account. The next address to recieve displays the third address so that is fine. The only issue appears to be in the displaying of the transaction. I think it should show two transactions of 0.5, 0.5 into the first address and 0.5 into the second address. The transaction is here: https://blockchain.info/tx/8927477ddc0d68030d0775e6c580c366a46b1347c3d8bcace3e60c53ee650981I still have not wiped the trezor and reinitialized it so it is still currently the same as my wallet32. The wallet32 ap shows the transaction correctly (as two 0.5 BTC transactions).

I agree that this might seem confusing, but it makes sense when you think about it in a way that we try to hide the unnecessary complexity of private keys and addresses. (Logically it is one transaction that credited 1 BTC to one account, not two different transactions). We just need to figure out how to show more addresses when needed. (I can imagine showing just showing text "more addresses"). I added it to our tracking tool and we'll look at it.
