I assume he was referring to the metal cases, not Trezor in general.  That would be a little baffling if they worked this hard on the product and just decided not to sell it anymore.

A manufacturer that is fucking up sounds like a good excuse to me, but I can understand why you think that way. People have been waiting for ages now.
