Did you do anything special to get them running well together?
On my rig jminer runs very slowly alongside eth miner. On its own jminer runs in -30 seconds with eth miner running its like 160s. Did you do anything to get them to run well together?

If you're using windows you can set-up priority for jminer higher:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "Java" /high java -jar -d64 -XX:+UseG1GC burstcoin-jminer-0.4.4-SNAPSHOT.jar

I have a question : I bought a GPU mining rig recently, which I will probably receive before Friday, and I'd like to add something like at least  8 To of HDD if possible.

Two questions come in my mind : what kind of return could I get from this and what load would it put on the CPU ? Is there a profit calculator out there ?

Since this is intended to mine GPU altcoins, it will be something really cheap, like a Celeron G1820. Do you think it will be able to handle the mining of the GPUs and of the HDDs ?

How many HDD so you think I can put on my motherboard (an ASRock Pro BTC) ?

I know that it is a lot of question, but I need it to be solved if you want that I join the community for real Wink !

Use Luxe's JMiner and you'll be able to happily mine GPU coins and burst - I have a couple of miners doing 30TB of burst and Eth with no issue.

Lower the priority of the Eth miner - it'll still impact JMoner, but it's minimal instead of the major impact at default priorities.

Yes, Burst mining only uses your GPU or CPU for about 10-20 seconds depending on your configuration every 4 minutes. If you are using HHD, you won't even be using 100% of the GPU/CPU while reading. You can also optimize your plots to reduce the reading time and load even more.

How many HDD so you think I can put on my motherboard (an ASRock Pro BTC) ?
You are able to connect 4 SATA drives to your motherboard. (If it's that one). You can connect even more to usb 3 or dual usb 2 via a usb to SATA connector.

Thank you, your help is greatly appreciated Wink ! But tell me, if I buy a USB "adder", with 10 more USB ports, I can theorically add at least 10x 4 To HDD ?
BURST isn't really paying at the moment according to the calculator, but I'll stick to my idea.
A final question, maybe a bit hard to answer : what lifetime can I except from a new HDD running 24/7 BURST ?

What if someone created an asset for Burst-related advertisement on one of the crypto advertising sites? It would not pay out dividends, but by getting more people interested in Burst it may increase its value on the exchanges and generally be positive for future development.

Also, how about creating a page for Burst on Facebook?

I don't think I got a comment on this one and I see similar stuff being discussed recently, so I'm just throwing it out there again in case someone finds it useful:

Crowdfund/asset for the advertisement of Burst using advertising sites that specialize in bitcoin + social media exposure = win

Yes, just note that reading speed is limited to the connector. You might encounder problems running 10-20 harddrive from 1 usb on the motherboard. While not the perfect setup, it should be doable. You might also want to get a usb hub with external power.  Wink

According to backblaze, a new HDD last from 4 to 5 years and mining burst dosn't stress the HDD more then normal usage. I can't give a better answear, it's really the best answear I could find.

with usb i would split up the drives to several ports since if one drive on a bus times out it freezes all others.
depending on the setup you want (external usb drives with own psus) it may be cheaper and maybe more reliable to put some sata controllers into the rig and connect them to the systems psu (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124070).

I tweeted about your scrip and included your site but agree with the Devs that you should try CFs. Perhaps a small one for starters to see the interest.

If you want to contribute more to BURST, you can simply present the idea and the crowdfund.  Smiley

advertising sites that specialize in bitcoin
I am actually interested in that too; see my signature.

I had been using nxtad.net which is a great great service, and cheap too, now I am looking for other ones, to get exposure on different sites.

Purely crypto, affordable, fully automated advertisement service, with bannerspaces on attractive websites? Any hint is welcome. Thanks.

I am trying to understand this better. Last night when I quickly checked that URL I could see many projects there.
Now zero. Perhaps you need to restart your system? I wait, please send me a PM, thanks!

Is that server based or distributed?  On http://localhost:8125/atcrowdfund.html I only get a 404.

EDIT: I have just tried to submit a "test proposal", but when submitting via "deploy AT" the result is "Error sending transaction".
What is "password"?  Is that my private key to my own BURST account, or a freely choosable password?

This server is friendly hosted by haitch. Howewer, since a week or two, there is little buys who ask for haitch to restart the server.
So yes, basically, there is no doubt haitch will restart the server in a few hours, as soon as he will see it or those post. Wink

Ah nice, thanks for telling me, Xavier59. That explains it, of course.
Perhaps a cron job might help that is restarting it every 6 hours anyways?

Secondly, can I also access that whole crowdfunding functionality distributed, in my own wallet download? How?
I would not like to input my private key into a website. If it was a locally running burst-NRS that feels different.

Thanks a lot!

EDIT: Service is back. Thanks a lot! Tried again, any password does not seem to do the trick. Where is a manual for that crowdfunding functionality? Thanks.

EDIT 4: Coloured the improvements which could be implemented, to make this better.

...
You are welcome to start a Crowdfund. Exactly for this situation we made it possible! The windows client or the online wallet are the easiest way:
https://wallet.burst-team.us:8125/atcrowdfund.html
...

I am trying, but it just does not work.

This time, I have tried from inside the "Burst Windows Client v0.2.2".
Still, this is the same remote website, right?
Or is this running distributed, and the crowdfunding website locally on my own NRS node?

Anyways, even when I fill in a (of course test account) real BURST secret key password ...
and then press "Deploy AT" ... nothing happens. Actually, the button gets gray for a few seconds ... and then is black again.

Perhaps you need to work on:
* availability of the crowdfunding system
* explanations how to use it
* error messages when something does not work

EDIT: Ah, now (quite a while later) ... there is a green "Transaction has been processed successfully."

So ...

* I suggest you display a "received ... please wait" message, for when I have pressed "Deploy AT"

* create a "how to use this" page on /atcrowdfund.html

* explain which password is meant (*)

and IF (*) really needs my private keys supersecret burst passphrase ... then consider to create a distributed, local version, that directly interacts with the blockchain, without contacting that remote https://wallet.burst-team.us:8125/atcrowdfund.html service. Perhaps the "Burst Windows Client v0.2.2" does that? But if so, then that is not transparent. What I mean is something like this:   https://localhost:8125/atcrowdfund.html <-- into such local pages I am more inclined to enter my password.  You see?

Thanks a lot. I just wanted to make my little service available, in return for some donations. Isn't all this here a bit too much overhead, just to get that going?

 Wink

EDIT 2: Hah. My bad.
It is exactly how I had wished for;
and the webwallet is unnnecessary (and I would not put in my real passwords anyways, any webservice can always get hacked) [ it seems unstable anyways? ]

Perhaps the https:// of the webwallet (that I had been given a few posts before) ... had confused the whole thing? Or was it because I had used the v1.2.3 wallet from https://github.com/burst-team/burstcoin and that does not contain the /atcrowdfund.html ? I really don't know. But I am sure I had an error 404 there before. But now, starting completely anew, taking the wallet from https://github.com/dawallet/burstwindowswallet ... it actually worked --> Suddenly ...

--> at http://localhost:8125/atcrowdfund.html  there IS actually the distributed version.

Now I am happy. Well done, folks, this is how it should be. Thanks!

EDIT 3: You long term users might laugh about me now. For you most of this is implicitly clear. But just look at these postings yesterday and today ... as a logbook for how a first time user is approaching your system, and is trying to fiddle through it - and what -unexpected- trouble can happen. May this help to make BURST even better. In the end I have managed, and have learned a lot. But I have also had to spend much time on this. Better be more explicit, about how stuff is actually working. The best thing I could do now is to already help improving the situation by typing a concise manual - such a thing would have saved me a lot of time. May it now help future users. Enjoy your day, everyone.

 Cheesy

Crowdfunding on BURST
Quickstart manual by @AltSheets

--- preparations for first time users; experienced users skip to (7) ---

(1) download & unpack "Burst_Windows_Client_Portable_0.2.2.zip"
      from https://github.com/dawallet/burstwindowswallet

(2) download & unpack (into the aboveFolder\burst_db\ ) the blockchain
      from http://db.burst-team.us/

(3) start   Burst_Wallet.exe   OR    start
aboveFolder\run.bat and open http://localhost:8125/ in your browser.

(4) Generate new, store passphrase in a supersecret place.
Treat your passphrase safer than money, it equals your private keys.
Login. Logout. Login. Still the same BURST-... address? Good.

(5) Dashboard --> Recent blocks --> wait until fully synced.

(6) Get initial BURST from (faucet / poloniex bittrex ccex / friends / ... );
sent to your BURST-... address. For 1st TX you need PUBLIC KEY also.

--- preparations done, now you can e.g. buy assets - or get crowdfunded: ---

(7) "Burst Windows Client v0.2.2" ... Menu ... Crowdfunding ...
      OR http://localhost:8125/atcrowdfund.html in your browser.

(8 ) Active/Funded - study the existing ones.
Ideally, help funding an "Active" one first, to see what happens.
Your contribution appears in wallet --> Transactions as "Ordinary Payment".

(9) Press "+New Project", fill in your details.
Name: no spaces, no "non-standard" chars.
Password: is your secret passphrase from (4).
The "AT Creation" will cost you 10 BURST.
Press "Deploy AT", and WAIT. Can take long!
If "Transaction has been processed successfully" appears, all is good.

(10) See wallet --> Transactions, when confirmed your project appears on
http://localhost:8125/atcrowdfund.html  - now you can start marketing it.

N.B.:
The time period starts running when the first 7 BURST have been pledged.
Then you can use AltSheets' neat countdown image service ChainCountDown.

Good luck with your crowdfunding projects

If you like this manual, then show it: BURST-ESVR-L2WJ-NT3Y-BWM6V

Thanks :-)
