...and how many Lisks is it for 1 BTC at the moment?

14k? Probably end up 10k when all ended

an unreasonable rate of dilution :-)

so there's no hard ceiling?
Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Based on these figures, if you invested 1 btc in any of these and are still holding on today, this is what your 1 btc would be worth right now (don't laugh, some people don't know how to do the math):

Ripple: 72,289 BTC - 676,227 BTC Market Cap - 835% increase (8.25 btc)
Ethereum: 31,531 BTC - 2,462,284 BTC Market Cap - 7709% increase (77.09 btc)
Maidsafe: 12,200 BTC - 104,696 BTC Market Cap - 758% increase (7.58 btc)
Stellar: 7,228 BTC - 27,803 BTC Market Cap - 284% increase (2.84 btc)
Bitshares: 6829 BTC - 38,981 BTC Market Cap - 470% increase (4.7 btc)
Factom: 2287 BTC - 43,194 BTC Market Cap - 1788% increase (17.88 btc)

using 10 BTC as an investment volume (a number easy to multiply all values by) what is the realistic expectation of the rate of return on this gig and over what period of time? no hype merchants please.

Don't listen to the hype merchants here.

Devs made it clear that this is a LONG TERM investment, so expect a drop of 10% to 25% after Lisk launches on exchanges and it will remain there for few months until Lisk Devs actually develop or release a useful product, other than what they cloned from Crypti Platform.

I would have to disagree with this point.  LISK will utilize Javascript unlike ethereum which utilizes serpent/solidity. Javascript/(JS) is currently known by at least 1 million developers worldwide.  LISK has a huge head start over Ethereum when referring to development.

Since there will be a Dapp store more and more Developers will be able make DAPPS on the LISK sidechain without much of a learning curve!  Any developer that is or will attempt to develop on the Ethereum Main chain will understand how user friendly LISK is compared to Ethereum.  MALREYNOLDS please feel free to interject after reading this post because I do enjoy reading your post!

All LISK needs to be a great success is for the masses to develop DAPPS!  Think of it as an early Google Play store when it was still called Google Marketplace.  There were barely any apps at first.  Then every developer grew appreciate how much easier it was to develop an app for android vs iOS.

Question: Is it possible to build something like slock.it using Lisk?

I don't see why not to be honest. It would be one great Dapp to code, and could take awhile I guess.

Slock.it is just connecting the Ethereum network to smart objects, and by way of smart contracts they are assuring no rules are broken during the exchange process.

using 10 BTC as an investment volume (a number easy to multiply all values by) what is the realistic expectation of the rate of return on this gig and over what period of time? no hype merchants please.

I'd use this list for predictions:
Ripple - Over 30M USD from VC's - 676,227 BTC market cap
Ethereum - 31,531 BTC from presale - 2,462,284 BTC market cap
MaidSafe - around 12,200 in BTC from presale - 104,696 BTC market cap
Stellar - 3M USD from Stripe - 27,803 BTC market cap
Bitshares - 500,000 USD from investors + 5625 BTC in donations (via BTS AGS) - 38,981 BTC market cap
Lisk - around 5100 BTC and 64M XCR from presale. 4 and a half days to go.
Factom - 2287 BTC from presale - 43,194 BTC BTC

I don't see Lisk market cap lower than 15,000-30,000 BTC.
I strongly believe it's going to be somewhere between 50,000-100,000 BTC by the end of Summer.
And I hope to see it over 500,000 BTC by the end of 2016.
To give you a better breakdown, I converted everything into BTC and then determined the % increase from the ICO to current Market Cap figures (with the exception of Lisk since we don't know yet).

Ripple: 72,289 BTC - 676,227 BTC Market Cap- 835% increase
Ethereum: 31,531 BTC - 2,462,284 BTC Market Cap - 7709% increase
Maidsafe: 12,200 BTC - 104,696 BTC Market Cap - 758% increase
Stellar: 7,228 BTC - 27,803 BTC Market Cap - 284% increase
Bitshares: 6829 BTC - 38,981 BTC Market Cap - 470% increase
Factom: 2287 BTC - 43,194 BTC Market Cap - 1788% increase

They grow because they have the capital to hire people and work full time on this. Usually, when it's people working on a project which they are not receiving income the progress tends to be slow. But not with these kind of funds, progress should be fast, and updates should come weekly if not bi-weekly.

thanks for the numbers.

and what happens if the devious b'stards at Microsoft, Google, or Facebook announce that they've been secretly working on their very own Java-based dapps platforms?

How about not posting the same huge image twice on the same page? Especially with idiots all around who quote large posts for one sentence replies.

Even though Sia is a great technology, it's not suitable for our intended purpose. Afaik we needed to maintain our own Sia network with a bridge for the API calls.

Lisk Devs Graphics Department.

PLEASE change the logo, it looks like Bitcrystals. Really horrible  esp compared against Ethereum.

I look at the logo and think this coin must have something to do with mining crystals from the earth.

yes I also think a designer should try to simplify the logo. Too much detail needed...
