More importantly, the ones with the fpga singles would be inclined to buy asics at almost twice the price/difficulty as a non fpga owner, since their FPGAs are essentially worthless for mining and so they pay only "half" price. So you want to sign up the other customers first before difficulty starts shooting up.

Hey, that's an interesting point I hadn't thought about...

It makes a difference,
Either they get $3000 from me or $1500 + 2 singles from someone else
I think they will put priority on full–paying customers: higher cashflow
No, the cash flow is exactly the same regardless of the order of shipments. Everyone has to plunk down the money and just wait.

If they have 10 monster ASICs @ $30.000 each, do you think they will sell them to the guys that put up $300.000 or the guys that put up $150.000 & 10 mini–rigs in exchange For the $1500 devices it wont make much difference as there will be a lot of demand for them, but for the $30k ones, they will prioritize is my feeling Edit: I forgot BFL wont have 10 devices as they wont start assembly after moneyhas been sent, so ignore what I said :-)

Hahaha Double SHA(256)posting Try writing a post on a Samsung Tab 10.1 and you will know what I have to endure ! LMAO another side note is, people who are buying singles from Re-Sellers Lose money from paying S&H From reseller, S&H back to BFL for trade-in, plus S&H for the ASIC trade-in sent from them to you... rather then just paying for S&H for the asic directly from them to you. that does add up really quick depending on the amount of singles you are purchasing from resellers.

It's often a much better deal for those outside the US. All but one of the few singles I've sold have gone abroad because the actual shipping is lower than bfl's charge and there is no VAT.

Gotta give BFL credit for one thing. It has built one of the greatest and most complex mousetraps of all time.

Complex mousetrap? No. Bitcoin is full of people who have very little economics sense ... It's more like a sign next to to a dark hole saying: "Jump down here please" with "$" signs written all around the words. ... and I'm not trolling or being sarcastic with that comment (for once?) - I am quite serious ...

I mean, what other FPGA creators are offering trade in for anything near the capabilities of an ASIC???
Those ppl that swore by the "never dealing with BFL blah blah this FPGA company >>>" failed to say the least

Going that route would have been poison for business. It was a foregone conclusion that they would have to make that offer.

ASIC will most likely have a long horizon till the first unit ships. The rebate will keep current sales alive

Then why announce it at all until they were ready to ship? Then it really wouldn't matter to them. They do have VC funding right?
