Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order

Only idiots are buying, so it's a good way to designate idiots from the rest. At those prices they aren't selling much, so it won't murder the diff. Except if it does murder the diff it's because they're self-mining on the most profitable farm on the planet.

I agree partially, some are idiots but I believe many are just hobbyist who don't care about spending money on their hobby, and/or are hoping the BTC price goes up substantially in the future. Nevertheless, they are driving the high demand/cost of S9s.

I've been mining since the CPU days and over the years have accumulated hundreds of coins at an average cost of $60 each and have already sold enough of them to recover all costs. But, I actually made more money from trading BTC. In any case I'm in a good position because I'm now playing with "the houses money".

I'm an electrical engineer and have always been into electronics and computers and such. The mining was a fun hobby and increasing the efficiency of my S1s, S3s, and S7s, like I know you have done, kept things profitable for a long time. I have a nice setup in my garage that can power four remaining S7s, which could be used to power four S9s, and would like to do so if it made any sense. I could try to justify by saying to myself "3 BTC only cost me $180 so the S9s are worth it", but that would be relying on false logic. When I do the math it doesn't currently make sense at my electric cost of $0.13/kWh to continue mining. You have to know when to hold them, and know when to fold them.

They are perfectly priced from the viewpoint of bitmaintech  and all of us that purchased Batch 1 ,2 ,3.

I could sit and do a lot of fancy economic bs ...here is the bottom line  only bitmaintech can make a .1 watt miner in

bulk and  cheaply.

Since they self mine  they can sell their gear  at 1800 or 2000 a piece and only sell a few dozen a day.

All the while they retool hashnest  with new s-9's  and don't feed the hashrate much.

They have absolutely done a great job  for their bottom line.
They will not have to lower prices on the gear until:

 A) a btc crash
 B) a new build comes out with a .1 watt machine

I don't profess to know their motives. All i know is buying 2150/450 4.77 BTC at the time of purchase beats your "investment" so far with NO electricity used.
13/4.73 x440=$1200, pretty much fair price for S9 since S7 is actually worth no more than $350. 13/4.73X350=961, so i am actually adding about $250 for efficiency and S9 being "new". Unless they price the miner at $1000-1200, i am not buying for now.

That's a very tempting idea. Sell now before Bitmain drops prices, resulting in everyone and their brother buying S9's which in turn will drive the difficulty through the roof. Then consider re-buying on the other side when things are stabilized.

You should not buy gear or sell coins   you need to wait.

My bet is they want to freeze difficulty as much as they can  which is why I grabbed five machines before the ½ ing.

Paid one off completely.  So this high price for gear and slow sale move on their part  was exactly what I was hoping for.

This happened with the s-5  diff went flat for close to a year.  

This is the only way I could  justify getting five s-9's before the ½ ing.

It's all about timing. If Bitmain - like Phil was suggesting above - can hold the whole network stagnant for a few months then actual mining ROI might be possible for the early batches, depending on which wave of the BTC pump they were bought on. But if they drop the price 2-3 weeks from now then it's going to suck for everyone, including early adopters.

This sort of gambling is why I'm sitting this one out, hoarding my precious. Won with S5, lost with S7, not gonna martingale it.

2. liquidate btc for $ or buy miners at btc peak  .
3. mine into btc $$ price decline or stable btc/$ price, collect btc, pay bills with $$.

rinse and repeat-profit as long as long term btc price is rising.
right now, btc price is rising, so buy and hold might be better than spending.

Nice numbers but do you really have that much faith in bitmain to keep the price high? all they care about is thier own profit , once the purchase rate drops to a number they are not happy with they will drop the price 30% like they did with the s7 and later on down to 50% , if anything the smart thing to do is sell yours now and keep your mined coins and then buy back when the price drops in a few weeks.

Thats what I'm waiting on.

Some kings were smart some were morons. They did suppress the diff during the s-5 run they did not during the s-7 run.
  The s-5 held price a long time.  The s-7 did not.  So for me to be sure that I am right would be dumb on my part.
I do have something going for me this go round lower power  cost risk  with the solar array deal and a back up position with the small Eth coin farm.

But you could turn out more correct then me.  Time will tell

Looks like Batch #9 (3.05 BTC), and Batch #8 (2.77 BTC) are back in stock. Just based on the price and hashrate, the slower miner is just a teeny bit better priced.

The spec says Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 40 °C. What happens if I operate it in higher temperature than 40 °C?
