Been following this for a couple of weeks and lurking, but I should start building a rep here so I can post...
So, I was thinking about getting mining hardware and have decided instead to just buy BTC where possible and market supports it, I've now successfully waited out doing a few transactions on Dwolla and VirWoX so have some coins in the wallet, and I'm wanting to start bartering to get more. And if I had an extra couple of hundred to invest, I'd be most interested in the open FPGA miners and a board, yes I know that is not at present economical but I would treat it like a learning experience. Hoping to see that project grow, certainly.
Thanks for all the accumulated knowledge here, and hello!

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

Hi Everyone, I'm new here. So I've been reading a lot about Bitcoins for the last few days, and I think it's a beautiful ideal. I certainly want to see it succeed, as over the last few years I've begun to understand whom inflation systems really are geared to benefit the most, and it's not me, nor the vast majority of people I know. I'm interested in the permanently currency capped system (although 21Million is faaar too few BTC for the whole world to have a share in, even down to 8 decimals (that's 3000 microBTC per person currently on earth...hoarding = major economic failure, unless I'm misunderstanding something, which I must be, because I doubt no one else has realized this by now). I've heard both that it can be split down infinitely, and that it goes to 8 decimals, so I'm a bit confused about that. There does need to be a more natural way to split coins (i've seen that already mentioned in a few threads, though) - mainstream will never accept 0.00000005334 as a satisfactory payment amount . I'm not really interested in the fact that this is supposedly anonymous (although I don't actually believe that's completely the case), but I love the fact that it is run via p2p. The anonymous thing may actually be something that will turn legitimate businesses away - association with shadiness. There's so much pain governments already cause small businesses, and cheating income is a terrible risk to take, when they can easily see what you've bought with the "$1000 income you declared last tax year". To encourage businesses to sign up, they mustn't be enticed by the "Tax man won't know what you're doing" factor, as that will just cause this currency to have too many enemies. I believe more businesses will actually join if honesty and trust (verified = pref) is what the whole network is based on. I believe the benefits of a system like this (secure and relatively fast transfers, no "owner" setting new rules) can win support on their own merit. I, for one, am interested in creating value for the currency, by creating bitcoin only products if I can - for it to succeed it needs something to compare itself to other than another currency (which is all its doing now). Anyway does that count as 5 posts? or should I edit and split it all up

Also, I think AMD are pretty glad they managed to be the card of choice for bit mining...they're the immediate winners here

Hello... I'm new to this whole bitcoin thing, but as a programmer, I'm interested in how I could build mining technology into my applications to "monetize" them.

Hello everyone, I'm almbfsek. I've first heard about Bitcoin when it was still equal to couple of dollars. Back then, I did some mining. I even got some free BTC from the Faucet then I simply forgot about everything and lost my wallet while upgrading my OS. Now, after many months, I'm too late on the Bitcoin bandwagon -as always-. With the regret of missing the possibility of being a rich man, I've registered here thinking about buying lots of GPUs and doing 7/24 mining but then I realized that with the current speed of difficulty increase, my gain wouldn't even cover the initial investment (am I wrong?). So here I am, just trying to contribute to the community because I still like the idea behind Bitcoins.
Cheers

Hello all
Just started mining (bitcoin and namecoin pools) a few days ago, located in Northern Indiana, about 250-300 Mhash/s, playing with guiminer and was doing some namecoin solo mining on a 4850 to try and get lucky before the difficulty increase this morning, no such luck but I'll probably keep trying for a couple weeks and then go back to the pool my other card is a 5770 mostly in the namecoin pool with a bitcoin pool as a backup.

I'm a programmer and hope to contribute a few utilities to the bitcoin community in the future. Perhaps even a small test apps in the next few days. You'll see the awesomeness that will be created soon.
