Hi, I'm new here.  Well, I've been following the forum for about a year, but lame n00b rule means I can't post anywhere else yet Sad

I operate btcback.com which is currently just a free Electrum (http://http://ecdsa.org/electrum/) server.  If you haven't tried Electrum yet, you should.  It's easier to use than the official client and much faster to set up or start up.  This is because it does not download the blockchain.  Instead, it relies on a server to handle the blockchain and talking to the Bitcoin network.  Your wallet/secret keys are stored on your computer and the server never has access to them.  It also has some nice features to help protect you from losing your wallet if your computer crashes.

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

I have been following Bitcoin for a long time.  My interests are in business that can use the pseudo-anonymity Bitcoin provides.  My business is not illegal but, could possibly cause negative attention to my person and possible civil sanctions against myself.  I will share more when I am out of the NEWB jail and have everything setup to do it right.

Hi, I'm about to buy some bitcoins, the seller is stepping me thru the process and answering questions which has been a huge help. As a trial he has sent one coin to my wallet which is taking aaaaaaages (so far 29 hours with 90 blocks to go) to synchronise, and it's not showing the coin he's sent. Does the wallet have to synchronise before the coin will show, and WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG?

The little I've read about synchronising indicates there's a way to automate it so that it doesn't take so long.

WOW, just received as I type this... there has to be a shorter way - any suggestions?

After the blocks finish synchronize, the next time you load it'll be faster. The coin is already in the wallet, and you could check the process without synchronizing your wallet at blockchain.info .Simply search the wallet address.

If you hate to stay up to date with the latest blocks (I do this like once a week when I send coins out, and it takes around half an hour for a week's worth of blocks), simply use an online wallet like the one at http://blockchain.info/wallet
