 Now anyone can control one of the 64 nodes which are needed for the Komodo Notary Network. I have for rent: 6 (or 8, when i'm not getting elected) BadAss Notary Node incl. colo in a bulletproof location in the Netherlands. A node can also be swapped with one of the servers in another geographic region! 1 x Intel Xeon L5520 (4 cores/8 threads) you can use 2 threads for Komodod and 2 for Bitcoind and others for administrative tasks. 64GB memory 1 x 500GB Samsung Enterprise SSD (no consumer version) 15TB bandwidth 1 x IPv4 addresses KVM access and control panel Installed with preferrable Linux distro 200USD per month in BTC (3 months up front)I can fully secure the server and install everything for you for a fee if you don't know how to do that (one time 100usd). It is also possible that i manage the server for a fee (25usd per month) My DC has an uptime of 99.9% (in reality it is 100%). jl777, BTCDdev and others can confirm this. All servers are directly connected to the AMS-IX backbones. Keep in mind, you'll get 500usd per month in KMD & BTC (if KMD are not 500usd worth at that time). Komodo testnet has sustained 1 minute blocks for over a day now! With the 2MB block limit, that means KMD can handle 20x the number of transparent tx that bitcoin can. The zcash tx are quite a bit bigger so the number would be about 5x smaller if measured in zcash tx.
Thanks to all that are running testnet nodes. If you have any decent type of server, it will be enough for testnet purposes and you can get a head start on being elected as an official notary node for the $500/mo payment
Being up to speed on the technical side is the most important part of running a notary node. There appear to be plenty of vendors that offer cost effective hardware and bandwidth with the needed requirements of 64GB RAM and 500GB SSD, 100mbit/sec+ bandwidth
Do we need to have the dedicated server already in place for the vote? Or it´s enough to describe the server which will be ordered after a successful candidacy? BTW: I entered the slack channel (username @rnr) for participate with an VPS in the testnet. |

However if the choice is between someone without the real server ready vs. one that has it ready and all else is equal... At this point I dont think we will have more than 64 candidates though, so it should be ok. Important thing is to be active and interact with the other testnet notaries. There will be a non-binding peer ranking among the testnet notaries for all the other notaries. This way the electorate can see how each testnet notary is viewed by the others on several scales, ie technical competence, helpfulness, reliability, promptness, etc. In addition to objective metrics I think having subjective metrics from the peer group will be useful. While in some sense the notaries are competing with each other, they are much more cooperating with each other as the majority of the testnet notaries will become the official ones. At least at first. Now it is possible some large investors or investor groups will want to vote in their own notary operator, maybe simply to increase their ROI or more strategically to ensure that any 51% attack is one notary node more difficult to achieve. Controlling a notary node wont really provide any other advantage that I can see to any stakeholder as there is a separation of powers and after a few blocks it is notarized by bitcoin |

you need to join #notarynode in the supernet slack. autoinvite via slackinvite.supernet.org The way to get added to the list is to get a testnet notary node running and get me your pubkey that you are mining with. Max of 64 official notary node operators I joined the slack and want to help with being an Notary node. I had contact with Badass and he's willing to provide hardware and support. I am now setting up an VPS for Testnet. |

We now have a couple of blockexplorers: http://www.zpool.ca/explorer/1720 is by crackers and http://148.251.57.148:3001/ was ported by oxarbitrage. hashes are endian reversed, but it has richlist and address balances and is quite useful for testing |

No swap for BTCD at this point, if 10,000 BTC collected in the ICO would mean 60 Million KMD for BTCD to Swap and 50% reward may also mean many BTCD holders will not buy in with BitCoin and wait for the swap to trade out and have a better position in KMD. I think most of this ICO is actually a swap and people who buy in with BitCoin may find they can't get their position they buy in at back unless people buy it on the market for more than the ICO which they could just buy BTCD and get the better position. Unless the math was done elsewhere that I didn't see by chance? Or does the BTCD on the main chain still Trade? Do BTCD holders get both the asset and their original coin? This would dump the price of BTCD and not pay for the Nodes as there is no selling of the BTCD to sustain the ICO. I am probably confused here  |

The ICO starts on Oct 15th. You don't have to register anywhere, and everyone is welcome. We will post more info closer to the launch date, when everything is ready. BTC investors get bonuses, for example 25% on the first day. BTCD is swapped for KMD after the ICO. No BTCD is needed to participate in this ICO, only BTC. Or does the BTCD on the main chain still Trade? Do BTCD holders get both the asset and their original coin? This would dump the price of BTCD and not pay for the Nodes as there is no selling of the BTCD to sustain the ICO. I am probably confused here BTCD holders swap their BTCD for KMD, that means they lose their BTCD coins. We don't expect the BTCD to have much value without any devs or plans. However, it should be linked to the KMD price for one full year, as it can still be swapped for KMD. All the BTCD that is swapped will just sit in a BTCD address and not go get sold or go to circulation. So there is no reason to expect the BTCD price to dump during the next year. Every BTCD holder will have plenty of time to do the swap. The notary nodes will get paid from the ICO funds at first. In the long term the system will become self-sustaining, as the blockchain usage rises and the nodes collect more tx fees. The nodes will also get block rewards until we reach the max 200 million KMD cap. The 'asset' you are referring to is an entirely different thing, nothing to do with Komodo. The BTCD holders were promised certain revenue streams from the SuperNET ecosystem, and because there won't be a BTCD in the future they will receive an asset. The asset will be made someday after the ICO, no date for that, could take a while as SuperNET needs to develop certain technologies (like assetchains). |
