To clarify, when you say 10% distribution, do you mean 10% of the balance of Bitcoin is accounted for?

Also, will be need our private keys to claim Byteballs in our Byteballs wallet?

The 2nd and subsequent rounds are slightly different.  You show both your BTC balances (as before) and your balance in bytes.  You have a sort of basket that consists of a mixture of BTC and bytes.  To determine the weight of the basket, every 62.5 MB are counted as 1 BTC.  For example, if you have 125 MB and 3 BTC, the weight is 2+3=5 BTC.  The distribution of new bytes on the 2nd and subsequent stages is proportional to the weight of your basket.

Does it mean that we have to lock the BTC balance in the linked address (for the first snapshot) for 3 months?
Put another way - My BTC balance in linked address at first SS is 3 BTC. after first SS, I move 3 BTC out and then move 6 BTC into linked address just before second SS. will the basket be counted as 2+6 = 8BTC? What is the weight if I have zero BTC in that linked address at time of second SS?

No, 10% of bytes will be distributed.

You will need any wallet where you control the private keys.  Coinbase and exchange wallets do not qualify.

No, you may move the coins into the linked address just before each snapshot, and move out immediately after.

Put another way - My BTC balance in linked address at first SS is 3 BTC. after first SS, I move 3 BTC out and then move 6 BTC into linked address just before second SS. will the basket be counted as 2+6 = 8BTC?
If you didn't move the bytes you received for showing 3 BTC in the first SS, your basket will be 3+6=9 BTC.

What is the weight if I have zero BTC in that linked address at time of second SS?
Then the weight is calculated purely based on your bytes balance, unless you sold the bytes.

The good thing about it you can also get them for free even if you don't have any btc.

The remaining 1% will be given away to the first 100m users who install Byteball wallet, 100 Kbytes to each user. This will start 6 months from now or later, after we get ready for that scale.

Hiya,

Just read through the entire thread.

Looks like a very interesting project and kudos to you for the initial one man approach without funding.

I am, like many people have expressed, disappointed that people with lot's of BTC will be rewarded significantly more than those further down the food chain. Whilst I believe in capitalism and all that, I still find it hard to believe that if I wanted to really get behind this project someone who's sat on their arse doing nothing with 1000 BTC claimed will likely have 100 times more incentive than me to do so. The fundamental difference is that this is not an 'equal opportunity for all' or a socialist 'equality of outcome' but rather a perverted 'opportunity significantly weighted for the rich' without any risk involved which is a key differentiator. Not to get into all that but it's a shame and I hope it doesn't come back to haunt the project.

I see you recently added the staged distribution which is nice and I think will help the project itself. As this user stated - I share the same thought:

this may be a double-edged..but at least this leash one chance for little fish get more.

As an investor/trader this is definitely one I will keep an eye on for what is effectively a 'free' stake regardless!

Best of luck with it,

Ben.

I also agree with your arguments..i'm a convinced libertarian but i dislike the savage capitalisme..but stop trolling  Grin..i think so that devs are made a better choice to combin btc+BBs..in more, spread distribution over several months can creat a + liquide market and avoid dumping on exchanges.  Roll Eyes

Important announcement.

1.  I've significantly underestimated the amount of time and work required to build a large enough community around Byteball.  Also, there is development work to be done that's unlikely to be completed and properly tested before the originally planned launch date in early November.  That's why I'm pushing back the launch date to Christmas.  The snapshot will be taken on the first Bitcoin block timestamped on or after December 25, 2016 00:00:00 UTC (Christmas block).  I’ll begin to send out bytes in the afternoon of Dec 25, unless there are major reorgs on the Bitcoin network.
“我”绝对低估了为Byteball建设一个大社区需要的时间和工作付出。当然在原定发布日期前(11月初)完成既定开发测试看起来也难以完成。所以要延后到圣诞节。第一次区块链快照时间是December 25, 2016 00:00:00 UTC (Christmas block 圣诞区块) 12月25日下午开始发送Byteball

2.  I stay true to my original intention to distribute 98% for free, but find it useful to split the distribution into several pieces.  On December 25, we’ll distribute only 10%.  A month later, we’ll make a new snapshot and distribute another 20%.  Two months later, the next 30%.  Three months later, the remaining 38%.  The exact numbers may me adjusted depending on the results of previous rounds and the progress of the address linking campaign.

The reason I chose to split the distribution into several rounds is that it gives more people an opportunity to participate.  It is impossible to reach every Bitcoin holder before livenet is launched.  We’ll make news by distributing the first 10%, the network will become fully functional, hopefully we’ll get listed on exchanges, all that will help many more people notice Byteball.  Each subsequent distribution round will have similar effect.

In each distribution round, we take a new snapshot.  Exactly as previously advertised, the amount of bytes you receive in the 1st round will be proportional to the BTC balances that you show on the linked Bitcoin addresses in the Christmas block.

The ratio 62.5 MB per 1 BTC is chosen so that the total money supply of bytes (1015) and the total number of BTC in circulation (16,000,000) are equivalent.

3.  The linking phase (when you link your Byteball and Bitcoin addresses) of the 1st round will start in early December or late November.

4.  We’ll run more active marketing in the coming months to grow our community before the 1st distribution round.

5.  We doubled our development team: my colleague https://github.com/kakysha (not a real photo) is already helping me improve the wallet.

6.  We’ll run a test flight of the distribution in November.  You will be able to link your Bitcoin testnet address to your Byteball testnet address, and the distribution will be proportional to your BTC testnet balance.

Every distribution is somewhat "unfair" of itself. You guys should create your own coin if you think this is unfair. Simple. At least you don't lose anything for this "ICO"

Ok, I just want to be sure that I'm clear in my understanding of this.  I am looking to slow down my cryptocurrency involvement, but I am interested in getting in on Byteball.  I've skimmed through the ANN and the last page of posts, but I still have a question.  How, exactly, do we link our BTC address with Byteball.  Honestly, I'd like to deposit my BTC and just let it sit there for a while.  Is there a way I can do this today and setup up my BTC account so that it will be accessible for the distribution algorithm, or are we not ready for this?

I guess I'm confused because I thought I read that both main-net launch AND distribution starts on 12/25.  If that's the case when, and how, do we lock in our BTC balances beforehand?

Thanks Tonych, and all supporters.

So, basically, what you are confirming is that there is currently no way to specify an address for use for the ICO.  Correct?
