tonych, I return for one final clarification. Am I correct that if the 12 witnesses do not change, then they can only create one total order in the DAG even if they attacking? The only damage rogue witnesses can do is to stall (and indefinitely if they are the majority of witnesses) the forward movement of "stability points", i.e. finality of transactions?

They can stall by not signing units or signing branches that the other witnesses have not seen.

If rogue witnesses gain a majority, they can damage (or rather kill) the network in two ways:
1.  by stopping any activity and thus stalling the network like you say above
2.  by posting nonserial units and thus creating ambiguity in total order that is not resolvable without a network reset (roughly equivalent to hard fork)

If they are a minority, such behavior is harmless and would rather lead to swift replacement of the misbehaving witness(es).

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I downloaded mac version and it syncs to 51% then stuck, and I exit it and restart, it starts from 0% again... is it a known issue?

That it gets stuck, is a known issue.  It happens sometimes if your mac goes to sleep, then when it wakes up, it sometimes doesn't resume sync.  The issue is not solved yet, but a restart of the wallet helps.

After restart, the percentage always starts from 0%, it is the percentage of the work left.

The amount of bytes you receive will be proportional to the total balance of this Bitcoin address on December 25.

I assume this'll be the same bot which will be used for the real Bitcoin address linking, however seing "December 25" for the testnet linking is a bit confusing, one may think that the testing phase extends to December 25 whereas, if I'm not mistaken, it is supposed to end by the end of November.

Thanks, fixed to November 30 to avoid confusion.

You are welcome.

So, I managed to link two Bitcoin testnet addresses using the micropayment option (thx lerecidiviste for the links to the testnet online wallet and faucet Wink).

Once I linked a first address (and closed the chat window), I couldn't find a way to query the bot about the address to which the micropayment should be sent and the amount of the micropayment (so that I can link a second address). Given the fact that there is no chat history, it seems the only way to know the address and the amount is to look in the transactions history.

Yes it happened because my mac went to sleep. Thanks for the info, it is continuing to sync now, hope it will be done soon.

I started my wallet and it starts sync'ing. I haven't opened the wallet for 2 days and before it was fully sync'ed. But now it starts to sync from 0% and it sync'ed 5% for 3 mins. Is this normal? every 2 days we will need 1 hour to resync the network? it seems a bit too slow

Just to be clear, Testnet distribution starts on Nov 30th, but actually distribution won't start until Dec 25th?

Yes, it is slow, we are working on making it faster, already found a few fixes that will help.

The problem is that it often stops at one point, then when you restart it goes back to zero percent. and not really faster the 2nd time of sync. This is a nice coin with new algo, but the performance issue needs to be resolved.

Yes, it's the only way to know the address and the amount if you want to link another address using micropayment.  I don't think this is going to be a common requirement though.

Thanks, would be great if some users could write tutorials for linking accounts once testnet is underway. Specifically for me I'd like to sign a message from my trezor wallet.

How long usually a transaction takes? I sent some coins to another wallet, then the rest coins in the balance are in "pending" mode for about 15 mins, before I can use it and send again. Is it normal? How long usually the confirmation time for a transaction?

So if I understand it correctly, someone can try to populate his rogue witnesses, maybe slowly and patiently. If people are taken in and use his rogue witnesses, then eventually the system could be in trouble?

I observe another issue. I created a few receiving addresses in my wallet, and send some coins to one of them, the transaction went fine, and the balance went from pending to normal, but I see nowhere the coin I sent, the amount is deducted from my wallet (while it should not be, because I simply sent from one address to another within my wallet).

It depends on overall activity in the network.  The more transactions are issued by other users, the faster your transaction confirms.
Also, if you are using a light wallet, it is slower to recognize that a transaction is confirmed than a full wallet.

Yes, the system could be in trouble if the attacker manages to convince people that at least 7 his witnesses are all independent and every single witness has much more to lose (in the real world, not inside the system) than to win from attacking the system.

Internal movements are not shown in transaction history as far as I remember.
All that could be deducted, is the transaction fee.
