Is it normal for the wattage to slowly increase the longer you run the miners. And is it normal for the wattage to go up and down in a range and not a constant rate. This happens on all algos but for ZEC it will start around 540 watts go between say 580 and 540 then range will slowly will go over 600 watts. My PSU is 600w EVGA bronze which I is why I'm concerned. Is this normal or is there something wrong. Also is 550 to 600 watts normal for 3 470's, seems high.
i heard the 470s run at around 90 watts each. What CPU do you have? take one card out and measure again. The difference is what the card is using. High end CPUs may run at over 200 watts The CPU is amd fx 6200, it is rated as 125w. I was figuring 100 for each GPU and 125 for CPU should be 425 but it runs close to 600. Your system without cards draw up to 180-200watt with this CPU, add 140 watt per card, total 180+420 , its 600. All is correct. You can undervolt cards to get 110-120 watt power draw per card. My rig 6*470s runs at 850watts

I think you have to factor in the time it takes to get to thermal equilibrium. Based on how you are managing your fans, it may take a while for them to get to some steady state rpm.

Don't know how to under vault, have not really looked into it.

VRMs heating up and losing efficiency (video cards or power supply). Say the rest of the system uses 80w actual (seems like a high number); that's 600-80=520w for 3 cards, or 173w per card. Assuming 80% efficiency, 173x0.8=139w/card. You should see a nice drop with some undervolting.

I have near the same config. 1000w psu , but celeron with 65w TDP , only SSD and undervolted 6*470s , without undervolting Iv got 1020 watt power draw from the wall. Not good. -100 mv undervolt, 1100 core clock and vualla , 850 watt from the wall. And card has stripted bios. I have 170 H/s ETH or 1800 sols/s Zcash.

@pacers101
Think also about the efficiency of your PSU cause it wont deliver 600W which depends on its standard (platinum/gold/silver or even lower) or lets say it consumes wattage by itself and this is sometimes not less.
AND another point... it reaches its highest efficiency on ~50% workload.

Talking about PSUs . Lets take 1Kwatt PSU with 80 plus gold efficiency.
Does that mean it can output 1kwatt maximum load to peripherals ? I think sertainly its not good to run it on maximum load, but, in that case I will see something like 1200watt on my kill-a-watt meter at he wall, right ?
And also if I see 1kwatt on my kill-a-watt meter at the wall, that mean that PSU actual load is 1000*0.8=800 watt , and PSU is working in best load condition ?

If anyone can give some information on how to undervolt I would be very grateful.
Saphire rx470 8gb cards.
Here is what I do to get 28MHs+ on my MSI RX470 gaming X 4gb Hynix . (Find out what type of chip you have in the GPU - You do different processes for each) 1) In ATIwinflash save your base bios: Open atiwinflash and hit save. Save the file. 2) Strapping: Open Polaris Bios Editor and on the timing (MHz) copy the 1500 data to the three settings larger than 1500. On Samsung you will copy the 1750 timing to the larger values. Watch this video that shows you how to strap. I did the same method: https://youtu.be/OP_zSP2H6ho This will get you 23.5mhs per gpu. 2) On the MSI Afterburner I set the Memory Clock to 2000 and the Core Clock to 1150(up to about 1275) and press the check(Apply). This should get you the 28mhs. 3) Now I go to WattTool and look at the numbers for each gpu individually. In this case for gpu "0:Radeon (TM) RX 470 Graphics" look at the mV number in "R7" = 1150mV. I do not want this number less than 1000mV. This is just my preference. Look at the Voltage Offset. Whatever number you put in here it will be multiplied x 6.25 so, 20 x 6.25 = 125. 1150 - 125 = 1025mV(which is above 1000) so this one would be -20 and then click "Set" This gpu should now produce much lower watts. 4) Go to the next gpu and evaluate the number and make the changes in the Voltage Offset based upon the mV number in "R7." Each gpu will be different. Good Luck Let me know if you have more questions.

It was working fine till today. I just noticed that yesterday I had around 300s/h but right now I have only around 230s/h. No idea why, becouse nothing happened, no config change, neither reboot. Have you ever had something similar? Any idea how to fix it? Thank you forward and have a great day! Zoltan

hawer183, I have never had that happen to me.
Try go through your setup all over again and make sure no software is getting in the way of your miner.
Maybe someone else can help you out with this one because I am not 100% sure, sorry.

yes, efficiency is higher at lower temps and system will draw more power as heat builds
