In other news I would like to express my disappointment at the rising BTC price. I have put a lot of effort into a bear market strategy over the past week that doesn’t require shorting and am now ready to go.  And the bloody price is rising and I’m twiddling my thumbs!  

Of course I’m long BTC and delighted but I really did want to test it out....

I disagree.   Sometimes when there is a dialogue back and forth, it can take a few back and forths, and maybe even some passion or some misunderstandings before the positions are clarified, and perhaps I attributed too much to your statements, but I don't think so, and I see no reason to back down under the current conditions, since it seems that you mostly have refused to clarify or explain what you were attempting to assert, and instead just backed away.

Bitcoin is doing precisely what it is supposed to do; secure my, and your, and everyone here's wealth in a secure, decentralized, deflationary vehicle...I have never said anything other.

It is NOT, in its current form, a suitable, day to day, means of exchange, and there is a vacuum, and an opportunity.

Will that opportunity be picked up by the lightening network?  Perhaps...if it is ready soon, perhaps it will, if not that opportunity will fall to a competitor.

Given that 140 sats is consistently clearing, 390 sats is grossly overpaying. You really need to judge your own fees.  Just pick a level that is currently consistently clearing. I  would be very comfortable with getting into the next block with 195 sats right now.

Given that 140 sats is consistently clearing, 390 sats is grossly overpaying. You really need to judge your own fees.  Just pick a level that is currently consistently clearing. I  would be very comfortable with getting into the next block with 195 sats right now.

That website's recommended fee is extremely high because it's guaranteed to get into the next block. It gives a whole range of fees with probabilities of confirmation times.

Sometimes confirmation is so urgent I am prepared grossly overpay to guarantee a place in the next block. If it's not urgent I go for one of the cheaper lower probability fees.

Yes, I typically use this web page to pick my own fee. https://dedi.jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/more/#24h Only risk is if suddenly there is a massive influx of transactions, or the network experiences some bad luck. You never know when someone may decide to "stress test" the Bitcoin Mempool.
