If we can get to ~$11,600, the inverse H&S will be complete. That should get us at least to the major resistance at ~$12,800.

If a guitar player is immature, overplaying is sometimes just a lack of experience. If the player is insecure (no matter their age, especially if there are other good players present) sometimes they overplay as if it's a pissing match, and showing off. A jam, with a rotating cast of many is bad for encouraging this.

A gigging band should be tight, know exactly what is coming up next. No extra times around for an extra solo unless it is really happening, and the crowd is reacting accordingly  Strong band leadership and rehearsal makes this happen. In a recording session, the producer is king.

One of the best guitar players I have ever seen has traveled the country several times gigging. He used to be in a band with Sheryl Crowe before she hit ("she wasn't that good, at the time", he says). Now he is a painter with a mortgage, wife and kids. He has a room of amps, another room of guitars. He says it is his 401k, but he loves them too much to sell any. He is a white guy, plays in an all-black soul band (and in several other bands), and in the soul band, he is magnificent. He plays a lot of our jams, and he is overplaying, arrogant, and way too loud on stage. The soul band has strong leaderhip, and he keeps it in line. In the jam, there is lax leadership. He is trying to be the biggest fish in the pond.

Music isn't a competition. It's all about cooperation.

Any real musician's ears are far more important than his hands.

I’m not a believer until $11,200

You gotta think BIGGER than that.  $11,200 is cake... or easie peasie.

Let me see breaking above $12k before I begin to believe - It may take a day or two to get to $12k-ish, if we are going there, and then breaking above would be a decent sign of UP.

Since when have you been a bear?

$11,200 to me means the downtrend has been convincingly broken.  I have not even begun to think about $12k.  That is a problem for another day.

The kettle is starting to warm up though.   I am beginning to see that we might get there. But not yet.

Is there a difference between an inverse head and shoulders and a cup and handle in terms of what it expects to come next?  Are they both short term bullish?  Anyone?

This winter, every jam I've been to had me thinking exactly this.
Recently, I'm always feeling like I'm the only one who knows when to stay low or lay out completely (if applicable).
I wish I knew better jams around here. Maybe it's a seasonal thing.

I did not realize what I was saying was bearish..  but I can see your point.

I thought that I was being more bullish than you to assert $11,200 as a given, but really I don't know.  The longer that we bounce around between $8,500 and $12k then the price could go either way.. so maybe I am thinking that we need to break above $12,000, so yeah in that regard, I am more bearish than you because I don't think that breaking above $11,200 really provides any kind of certainty that we have sufficiently broken up to feel comfortable in having MOAR UP.. I think that we need a higher break up in order to feel relieved of such bearishness.

By the way, a couple of weeks ago, when we first broke back above $10k, I thought that was a decently bullish sign that there remains considerable difficulties in asserting that we are in an early 2014 scenario rather than the more likely early 2013 scenario... which still seems to be my thinking about what we currently have (i mean more likely that we are in an early 2013 like scenario currently rather than an early 2014 like scenario).

With the way the market started behaving shortly after the CBOE and CME futures markets came online, I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few here have made the metamorphosis from bull to bear. We can only hope the bear whales have run out of BTC. However, I suspect many of the same bear whales closed their short positions around the 6-7K range and then used the profits to refill on cheap coins. Have my tinfoil hat on, naturally.

Though I will say if a lead guitar break is well thought out ,arranged and  melodically slick,

 it can add substance
to the track, especially maybe for the middle eight.

David Gilmore of Pink Floyd for one was a master at this.

But mindless shredding to show off ones playing speed? oh perleeeze!

Leave that for the Spinal Tap metal head moroons holding lighters over their heads, I'll pass thank you...

Absolutely. Strong melodies are what most audiences want to hear, not noodling nor technique wanking.

I agree... most of the time.   I did however buy Eric Johnson's - Ah Via Musicom CD after hearing Cliffs of Dover once.  Wink  A lot of wanking in there.
