Aren't merit sources supposed to operate on the down low? Asking for a friend...
We din't git no 'struction manual, pal. Just "go out and spread merits where deemed worthy (and don't spend so much time in the WO thread, you lunatics)" That's not fair. WO Merit sources should spread all their merit wealth only on WO, not outside "in the wild". Enough of that communist bullshit.

That's another form of the "royal" we.... hahahahaha Just note to all potential beggars. I'm kind of thinking that in order for the merit source thingie ma jiggie to work with fewer glitches (especially in the begging arena), there may be a need for theymos to designate nearly one thousand members as merit sources.. Perhaps, theymos is working his way up to that 1000 number.. , but only slowly.. hahahahaha.. He started with 35 merit sources, and currently there are 77.. so could be more and more and more? There is likely a decent amount of analysis going into how merits are being distributed. and whether the new system is going to allow for both ranking up and disincentivizing spam-like posts...

I looked just the other day, still a barren wasteland, vacuous google translate posts trying to meet sig campaign quotas as plentiful as grains of sand.
The Mining Hardware section used to be alive and kicking at the height of the KNC and BFL scams. Then Bitfury decided it wasn't going to sell to plebes any more. Then Bitmain went chaotic evil. Then Spondoolies called it quits. Nobody producing 120V miners any more, effectively killing it off for home/hobby miners. So this is the only place I find interesting now that I'm out of the mining game. It's actually kinda sad The only reason I'm still mining ...is 1) 2016 KNC Liquidation Sale w/one eBay sale (all new bankrupted) 7 units....thus unicorns from the sky! 2) 2017 got on bitcointalk and announced I got some L3's from China and other Bitmain stuff...at $4.15 coin and on April 1st, 2017 (April fools day) I announced no less than a 6 buck LTC floor and yeah ...zoom it went up and I had equipment in the wind as LTC price pumped... 3) 2018....no frigging unicorns falling from the sky..my days may also be numbered....(every year I tell the CPA lady take off all the equipment that year...and I say it is the last year...no more equipment from the sky....every year...unicorns fall from the sky again...and I come back to her snickering) Seems damn unlikely I will find some 'non-dubious' ASIC miners in 2018! But I am hoping for more unicorns!

Merit sources are picked by Theymos. They get a monthly sMerit allowance from the house, so they can give it out without being merited by other participants.

This is an interesting place. When things are doing good we all share and enjoy the same feeling of success and richness (even if in different levels) and the opposite (like right now) also holds true. Quite different than IRL friends, most of them being complete nocoiners. #justarandomthought

I have merit available to give. Does that make me a merit source? If you are a merit source, then your merit page will come up like the below purple highlighted two paragraphs (though not really purple in real life) - noteably the difference in the second paragraph for merit sources: >>>>>>>> You have received a total of XXXX merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have XXX sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.
You are a merit source. The next XXX merit you spend will come from your source rather than your sMerit balance. Merit spent from your source will come back in 30 days. Unused source merit is wasted. It is not allowed for merit sources to sell their merit.<<<<<<<<<<<< As you may recall, the merit system activated on January 24, and therefore it was thought that if merit sources spent their smerits, then those smerits would start to replenish into the merit source on about February 23 - however, theymos stated that he had run into some glitch in the way that he had programmed the replenishment of merit source merits - in essence the script or the algorithm was screwed up. It appears that theymos fixed that merit source replenishment glitch on about March 5, and replenishment of merit source smerits began again around March 5.

Looks like a lot of hard work to me. I've still got loads left and I'm not a source. I'd be mortified and start cracking up under the strain if I had to get rid of several hundred per month. There aren't enough posts that arouse me. We should have a WO meetup some time. Maybe we can have an IRL celebration when BTC hits $100K haha.
Are we not all lonely three letter agency computers looking to reach and touch on the sly? I think I am.

I didn't know about the glitch or any details of merit expiry, interesting stuff. +1 WOsMerit (I do have sMerit to give now, but you're a legend and a source, so it really feels like wasting the goods.)

Welcome to speculative investing. Have you seen the P:E ratios of stocks lately? The point of this image is not only about the speculation but also to illustrate how much of bitcoin's value is dependent on government and bank cooperation.

This's interesting. We're no-where near the dotcom bubble yet in terms of market-cap: But even if you consider bitcoin a bubble and think that it has reached a point where dotcom reached at all time high, and will burst like dot-com, then bitcoin has already lost 70% of its value from all time high, which was the total bubble burst of Nasdaq. You're basing this only on the value of bitcoin core and are not including the value of all the altcoins, ICOs, blockchain tech stocks, futures markets, mining farms, etc.

We should have a WO meetup some time. Maybe we can have an IRL celebration when BTC hits $100K haha. Make it on Las Vegas during summer and I'm sold. Probably the only place in the world that could stand the assorted and extravagant bunch of us celebrating that awesome milestone in the most extreme and extravagant ways Maybe we could even hire the Vodoo Lounge at the Rio (51st floor) just for our party.

Does anyone here have any experience of internet meets? I have a sneaking feeling they'd be fucking horrifying. And for some of the longstanding members there must be people with grudges against them out there, let alone blown opsec with wallet balances being linkable. I'll send an actor. Or a cat.
