Can some quickly explain to me what activity = (time *14, posts) means? Specifically what the comma represnets. Reading the comments above I think the idea is you can get a max of 14 activity every 2 week periods?

I've made 6 posts today and it's been over 2 weeks since I last made my last post, but my activity hasn't updated? Maybe I've got it wrong. Appreciate a response, thanks!

Edit - my bad, it's updated now. Read that it can take an hour or whatever to update.

It simply means that you will earn a maximum of 14 activity per two weeks (assuming that you wasn't active in the forums and was only posting a few times a week) since you registered , keep in mind that you need to have posts (so It's impossible to earn activity without having posts , In other words you should have posts higher then activity in order to earn activity)

Might be a silly question but if the activity is calculated in 14 folds, how can it be that  someone has 18 (like me) or 112.

I am registered since March 24th, and there is no 2-week period in which i didn't post, if I calculate it right my acitvity should be around 32, which is the total number of days since my registration. How come its almost half of it?

Activity is calculated as a minimum of two values. i.e. a number of 2 week periods (multiplied by 14) you've been registered and a number of posts you've made... Cool

What does this mean exactly? I have registered on the 9th of december, that makes it today a total of 10x 2weeks. So 10x14=140 which is my current activity, but how do the posts effect it? Or is it just that in case you haven't made a single post in one 2 week interval, you won't receive a higher activity for those 2 weeks?

So the amount of posts don't really matter when it comes to activity?

Your activity comes to depend on the number of your posts if you post rarely. Then yes, if you haven't made a single post in the said interval, your activity won't increase. Actually, there are many users here which had registered years ago, but since they have been lurking, their activity is low... Cool
Thanks for this post deisik, it actually threw good enough light on the puzzle on how activity is arrived at in here. Did register here well over a year, but wasn't quite active until recently, now I understand the reason am stuck at the "Member" level with 84 posts. So invariably, except am in a campaign, one post a day simply does it.

I'm sure the donator ranking was created when Bitcoin was worth a lot less than it is now. 10 Bitcoins is a lot. I wish I had enough to donate.
I think that must have been when 10 bitcoin was no big deal, because at the rate it is now, I don't see any member willingly parting with that much. I think a review is highly necessary to reflect the present state of things. Would be good to know if any member have actually made this donation till this moment.
They did make it back when BTC wasnt big. however they likely see no reason to change it. they probably have more then enough and the current donators will likely be upset if they lower it because they paid that high of an amount.

Theymos gave the donators an assurance that the amount (in bitcoin) won't be changed, so he is just sticking to that.

I said a long time ago that the prices would remain the same, so I can't change this policy now in any case.

Don't know when the last person to donate 10 BTC took place. But it should be reconsider if only lowering by a little bit. To get more people to donate. Or perhaps create a new donator ranking that's lower. But I guess keeping it at 10 is better than the opposite conversation, which is Bitcoin crashing to the point where 10 BTC is too little.

Why? Just to piss off all past donators who were promissed the amount would not be lowered?

To get more people to donate.

For what? 1.5 Million USD (or more? Not sure about the exact number) has been used for new forum software, the income on ads is enough to cover the hosting and give a little to mods.

Or perhaps create a new donator ranking that's lower. But I guess keeping it at 10 is better than the opposite conversation, which is Bitcoin crashing to the point where 10 BTC is too little.

Can someone explain to me how my ranking will go up, if my account was registered in 2011? If I continue to post, will my activity go up, or is there still an activity period that I must wait for to rank up?

The fact that your account was registered in 2011 does not matter. What matters is how many 2-week periods you have posted in.
According to https://www.bctalkaccountpricer.info/, your potential activity is 84.
So if you  make 37 posts, you will become a member.
Read this to get an idea about how activity works.

It's for avoid spamming from a low rank like yours (newbie). Me and other people were wait 6 min too when we were still at newbie rank.

I understand the fact that newbies have to wait 6 min to post because of spamming but what I don't understand is time delays on searching and sending messages Sad . Surely there's no harm in taking such restrictions away.

It's possible to spam on sending messages too . In fact , the limits got changed by theymos when a user started to spam with a phishing link : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253190.0 so It's useful. As for searching and reporting posts then I guess It's just to limit the number of requests on the database/forum.

I kinda agree. It hurts when you keep refreshing to see whether or not the error message has disappeared, lmao.

I think it should be reduced to 180-240 seconds IMHO.

EDIT:

Probably not allowed to post images due to the Newbie rank, but It's the dreaded error message  Cheesy

EDIT:
Another error

Also, how many posts is it to gain the JR. Rank? I'm assuming that's when you're eligible to post images.
It states you need to gain 30 activity, but I have:
Posts:   35
Activity:   14

I've seen users with 50 posts and 50 activity, so...are there certain sections that don't count towards activity increasing?

You need 30 activity to become Jr. Member.  Activity have a limit and they're calculated this way:
Quote
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every hour.

Check the previous pages of this thread for many explanations about this.
To answer your last question, the only section that doesn't count towards activity is trashcan which is invisible.
