Newegg.com has sapphires in stock  but they will probably be sold out soon.

Same price point as the rx 4xx cards.

Wow...AMD has basically just released hot clocked refreshes of the old 470/480 series that are maybe 3-10% faster but use way more power

The RX580's look like they are using 30-60W more power than a 480 just to squeeze enough performance out to look better than a 1060 6GB Cheesy

Now everyone can run out and get a new RX 580 card that requires more voltage, produces more heat and has higher power consumption.

How long until Vega drops?

Edit: adjusted power consumption to be more accurate

Wow...AMD has basically just released hot clocked refreshes of the old 470/480 series that are maybe 3-10% faster but use way more power

The RX580's look like they are using 60-100W more power than a 480 just to squeeze enough performance out to look better than a 1060 6GB Cheesy

Now everyone can run out and get a new RX 580 card that requires more voltage, produces more heat and has higher power consumption.

techpowerup has a great review about it, it seems the rx 580 uses as per the review 67 more watts than rx 480 at maximum peak.

they should use the same power if you turn down the core clocks
but for zcash the higer core should give more hash rate so that wattage increase could be worth it

i bought 6 570 - 8gb and 6 580 8gb for testing.  I'm pretty sure they will be the exact same as RX4 series but we will soon see!

Umm...excuse me?
They use a lot more. Maybe 50-100 is a bit high, but it looks like 30-60W easily enough

Go and read all of the reviews my friend. They use more volts to get higher clocks and hence draw a lot more power.

Sapphire 570 8gb and 580 4gb cost exactly the same...strange
got a couple of MSIs 570s off newegg for a small (300-350W) built.
I think that they would do 22-23mh in eth, maybe 300 in ZEC from the get go (default), so two 570s would beat one 1070 in total zec output (600 vs 425-450) with a bit more power, of course (240 vs 150W).
there is a russian youtube video floating around.
apparently, you can use the same timings as on 470.

The 5xx series are much worse overall than the 4xx series, I expected a lot more from them. There is nothing better or refined about the 5xx series. Whoever wants performance without needing a super ultra power supply, better to go quick and buy the 4xx series before its too late.

too late...there are no discounts on those  Grin

overall, i agree with the sentiment..it almost like somebody ordered "you have to do something"[to boost prices].
they wanted to boost average sale price a bit before introducing even more expensive Vega.
what kind of amazes me is that in a year AMD could not produce a card (at a similar or lower price) that beat 1060.
580 is apparently 6% worse than 1060 (in gaming), yet 580 costs more (at least more than some nice and small 1060s like Zotac mini 6gb). This might not be so in mining after bios mods.
This video is actually quite disheartening:

If at least they had updated its memory to 9ghz, then it would be a reason to justify it but nothing was really done about it. They actually increased the clock on core and then increased the voltage and there we go rx 580.

Plus, now you need an extra  6 pin connector to feed the beast, the rx 580 looks now a rx 590 in power usage. Many of you were waiting for the rx 590, there you go, you got it from AMD.

Does it mean they are not as efficient as the old cards?

If they are giving the same hashrate at more electric cost then nope.

If you run the same settings it will be 5-10% less watts.

As a miner you don't need the high clocks on the core.
