you need to look at the bigger picture.
right now you are just looking at a short period of time where bitcoin price has came down a little. if you look at a couple of months you can see a rise from ~$880 to $2900 and right now it is sitting between $2200-$2400.

even if it falls more it will still be much much higher than the couple of months ago.

I think many people hold the bitcoins because bitcoin's price will be more expensive in the future,
bitcoins be considered as new digital gold and digital asset, bitcoins can protect their whealty from inflation
so they hold bitcoins for long time.

You need to study better. The rise is DEFINITELY and obviously bigger than the drop.

By any means, we are not there yet

In fact, we are not even close to being critical, which would require Bitcoin to be placed in the "critical care unit", metaphorically speaking. There is no chain split yet, and the chances of it coming about look low right now (we'd rather go on as before without SegWit). What we see looks more like a typical pump and dump event, with the stress on the dump part this time. It is only when we actually face the split or it becomes imminent that we can talk about situation being "critical". But in that very case, it would remain to be seen whether folks are actually going to "stick to their guns" and hold their bitcoins (which I doubt)

   He need to take a look at the bigger picture, there is threads from years ago with same questions. When price is making this fluctuations at
some point people wish to see break trough. That was happening  before price went to $500, then after that people wanted to see $1000 mark,
and so on, now we are at +$2000 and people seeking to see $3000. My point is that holders hold their coins tight cause their exit point is $10000,
or even higher, that is individual decision.
   They are not bothered with this fluctuations, that is why they are long term holders. With day traders it is different, they depend from this
fluctuations, that brings money to them.

Some people are waiting for Infinity, but am into it for the currency value of Bitcoin, the investment growth is just an additional profit. Most of the people here know that regardless of price dropping or increasing, the end value will always be better than where it was last year. So why not, HODL forever.

The more people hold bitcoin, the more price rise we can have. When the new money enters to the markets, that money will only be able to buy the coins which are available on the exchanges.

If you don't list your coins on the exchanges, that money won't be able to buy your coins and he will pay someone else more money to get his coins. Now think about this on a bigger scale. Multiply the numbers by 100 or 1000.

For this particular situation we are in, that's the future simulation of all alts out there. If we can't successfully resolve the issues we have now, those exact issues will destroy the other alts either.

The moral of the story is; If you believe in bitcoin, just HODL!

They are holding bitcoin for one simple reason : the price's rising with time. The Bitcoin price is expected to increase and going to moon within few years most likely, and it will be the best opportunity for the holders to create wealths this way.

There are a lot speculations that the price of bitcoin is going to skyrocket in few years to come that is why people kept holding their coins. People opinion that the price is going higher based on the fact that those who kept their bitcoin few years back are rich now.

Most of the investors here do have that only reason. Money.
We dont know yet what the future holds so we dont understand also if it could be usable at that time.
But for now, we could profit from the increase and somehow be ready and hold more bitcoin for future plans/

I can see what you mean "in this critical situation" obviously referring to August 1st and everything that goes with it, I myself have considered moving over to litecoin to ride the uncertainty at that time but i am now thinking that nothing major will happen as long as you own your bitcoin as in you have your keys, there might be a fluctuation in the price but i can't see it being anything major.

People like me more tend to hold because we believed that even the price of bitcoin is not stable and its fall right now time will come that it will be pump. Holding bitcoin for a long time was always worth it. It was proven already thats why we are still holding for it.

Actually this is all because of the potential for greater profits, because the legal economy is very applicable in the bitcoin. If the inventory is less than the demand, then automatically the price will be higher and this is all done in the bitcoin because such laws. But it could be everything from who they want, so enjoy it what makes you want to play in the bitcoin and seek as much profit.

It depends upon how you treat trading. There are three kind of people in trading world. When the prices of Bitcoin drops,
1. Panic Patients - These kind of traders hurry for sell so that they don't make losses on their investment. As a result contribute to lower prices further and worse the situation.
2. Cool Headers - These kind of traders keep hodling Bitcoin no matter it goes up or down in short span. They are big hunters and wait till they earn huge profits.
3. Opportunists - These kind of traders can be either situation benefitters or ones with immense believe in bitcoin. These are the people whom 'panic patients' sell their Bitcoin and leave the market when prices drop.

Now you can easily understand why some don't leave market no matters price drop or rise.

People are holding bitcoin until now even in the face of the price falling down because this is temporary. The split is also coming our way and yet people are still holding on to their bitcoins.

All because the general public who are holding some bitcoin are positive that after this storm of price dipping, bitcoin will recover and end this year with an increase in price. The price increase after this decrease moment is bigger.
