What makes people compel to hold the bitcoin in this critical situation? What are they waiting for? Any good reason?
Investment. To study the trends. Those reasons, and people kind of know that more people will trickle in to buy over the years, thus slowly raising the price/value. |

am afraid that bitcoins will be irredeemable before the segwit is implemented,
Nothing will happen with your coins as long as you keep them offline and well backed up. I just don't understand why people think the end of days is heading towards us, while in fact, it is something that will make sure Bitcoin can move forward without too many obstacles in the forthcoming years. It's a necessary step to take. If you can't handle it, then make sure you temporary distance yourself from everything Bitcoin related. people have already lost their investment already.
You only lose when you sell at a loss. If you're not a trader, you shouldn't care about the price going down. If people do end up caring, then they should use the lower prices to buy themselves some extra coins, in order to get their average buying price down. Where some people look at current market as a complete toxic mess, others see this as a great buying opportunity. |

There is no reason, it is just faith over the bitcoin tech that makes us sure bitcoin will rise again the price. If you are afraid if segwit2x stuff then don't worry. You should just relax about it and keep your bitcoin in the wallet which are pretty well known and they know what they are doing. Do not move your coins on the day of august. With precautions you are good to face the whole thing and watch bitcoin grow big again.

Actually there is big reason of the price , in the Bitcoin field there are many people who are only making the money by holding the Bitcoin only , I means to say they bought the Bitcoin when the Bitcoin get at low price and sell when it get much high . As you can see that the price is going down , so they are making buy even in this critical situation , so they are holding the Bitcoin in the wallet . And if you will see about the about the technology since 2008 about the Bitcoin then I don't think that here we need to worry about this And so we have trust with the Bitcoin and it's development team and we should feel that everything is safe and instead to take tension keep calm and hold until the complete of the process that will start at 1 August with official announcement . |

People are stopped to sell bitcoins all people storing their bitcoins in there wallet. and waiting for August 1st segwit2x once this finish then we see an increment in Bitcoin price. Why they are holding means to make a big profit in future. don't get panic for present fall it was expected. |

WRONG. you need to look at the bigger picture. right now you are just looking at a short period of time where bitcoin price has came down a little. if you look at a couple of months you can see a rise from ~$880 to $2900 and right now it is sitting between $2200-$2400. even if it falls more it will still be much much higher than the couple of months ago. with that said, did you get your answer to why people hold bitcoin I suppose that OP is referring to how fast the price is going down, not by how much. For the OP: I would say that the dynamics regarding "how fast" is similar to the stock market. Actually you could model that using an inverse correlation between volatility and delta price returns. There are a few papers trying to say why. It seems that their conclusion is related to the fact that when the price starts to fall, panic is creeping into the market. So there you go, market behaviour at its finest. |

People might be holding bitcoin in a sense that they see this cryptocurrency as a pathway and a chance for easy access and gaining of money. Also with bitcoin's decentralized block chain that enables them to monitor and access their own account on private. They also see that their assets have a future in bitcoin despite of its unstable price value but still believing of its capability to pump its price value on peak. |

Not all the people here are panicking. We do know the risk in investing in bitcoin and besides the price is still high to be considered low because most of the people here saw bitcoin when it was lower than $200. So there's no need for all of us to panic and we are just calm to look for the right time to sell our bitcoins at higher price.

They also want to earn more. That's why they choose to wait.

As far as I can tell, the only reason to hold bitcoin for any length of time is the belief that its price will rise, not now, but in the future

My reason why I keep holding bitcoin is just because btc has a high potential to rise up its value into enormous in the near future. Although, btc is now decreasing I will not panic to sell and still I will hold it because I have faith that it will rise up again and will have a higher value. |

I think many people hold the bitcoins because bitcoin's price will be more expensive in the future, bitcoins be considered as new digital gold and digital asset, bitcoins can protect their whealty from inflation so they hold bitcoins for long time. Actually, there are many reasons why people hold their bitcoin. In addition to that, some people hold their bitcoin because there is a chance that the price of bitcoin will rapidly increase in the future and people believe to that. Holding bitcoin or any coin will help you to gain more income but it took time to wait. |

Bitcoin price has kept on fluctuating because of the upcoming bitcoin fork with the falls outweighing its gains and there is no reason Bitcoin hodlers need to panic as we should start to see prices easily raise when the current problems are fixed and demand starts to rise again...just need to keep holding a little bit longer

Bitcoin experienced an unexpected rise two months ago and the Price rise is way too high than the Price decrease . And most of the people prefer to hold their bitcoin to sell when the price is high. As of now price is not stable so it its better to hold your bitcoin than to sell it . People who are selling their bitcoin are probably scared of August 1. No one is sure if their bitcoin is safe or not ,so some are selling it and some are willing to take the risk by holding it. |
