Because some people believe that bitcoin price will increase. That's why they prefer to hold it rather than sell their btc. Including me, too, actually.
And maybe they use bitcoin as a long term investment. That's why they hold it instead of selling or trading it. Just keep your bitcoin, and the value will be high in some time. No need to do anything and gain profits.

If Bitcoin was stable like Tether or USDT we could use it as the digital dollar without the need to hold for long time
Expecting it's value to rise over time, but now people are mainly holding Bitcoin to increase their wealth after a few
Years from now, there is nothing wrong with holding them and no one is able to do anything about it other than spreading
Lies and scare people with hard forks, it's more like the story of fox and the bird, right now that fox has threatened us the birds
To split the chain and many of old time holders already dumped and are dumping even now, we should be above $2800 by now
But the dumping has lowered the price $400 and it will go lower as we approach the first of Aug.

people are holding bitcoin because its the boss of all crypto currencies and who knows about market and have idea about what is going on the market and what will happen in next 1-2 years .they wont sell bitcoin because its the future  its popularity is rising day by day |

WRONG. you need to look at the bigger picture. right now you are just looking at a short period of time where bitcoin price has came down a little. if you look at a couple of months you can see a rise from ~$880 to $2900 and right now it is sitting between $2200-$2400. even if it falls more it will still be much much higher than the couple of months ago. with that said, did you get your answer to why people hold bitcoin What never ceases to amaze me are the amount of people who can't think of of what you just said. It's really quite obvious but apparently not... Lol. I don't know why people can't be patient. In a few years time it will be worth much more so even buying now at a loss is profitable. Yes you lose short term. But look long term. It's way worth it. Remember when Bitcoin was I think 800 ? Then went to $240 ? So many people dumped. Then look what happened ? It was over 800 in the next year and a bit or two years. |

They have already seen such scenes more times and they know very well that bitcoin deserves much high price than that.You could see only newbies getting panic and selling their bitcoins at cheaper price.They would have to regret for their decision and big whales have already completed a delicious meal by buying cheap bitcoins. |

How can holding Bitcoin affects the success of the future of cryptocurrencies? Well maybe they are just holding it for future (like after months or even weeks, not the whole future) purposes. Holding it for now thinking that it will pump up more than of the past months of its price is a good strategy though. But then again at the same time SegWit2x is coming and these people might be panicking if they have to sell all of their earnings or still want to hold it. |

i think its because people know bitcoin price will reach high so they still hold until now no matter if the price is drop like yesterday. they are happy if the price is drop so they can buy more bitcoin and hold like the bitcoin amount they have. only people which is panic will selling their bitcoin after they see the price is down and i don't want to be like them.
bitcoin price is really worth for future so this is why people still hold it, they don't want to reach little profit and they expecting to make big profit in future. while they are waiting the price is up, they can do everything they want and maybe they can increase their bitcoin amount so in the end they really can make big money.

Why people are holding Gold?
This, many people in the forum are not in bitcoin to get a short term gain, they are in because they want to score big, they do not want to earn a few hundred bucks and then sell they probably want to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions and that cannot be done by just holding a few months, people will need to hold for a very long time for that to happen to them. |

My question is would you not hold BTC then? I mean look at the bitcoin market. The value is so unstable. However, nevertheless, it increases gradually. BTC worth less than $300 back in few years. However what about now? most of people who hold BTC see things in long term. That's why

people hold bitcoin becuase its going to moon eventually, it is the first, most trusted, and one of the most fairly distributed currencies. only a matter of time before the general public get in (probly now or soon)

The most obvious answer is to try and turn a much larger profit than any other traditional investment could otherwise provide. It is almost getting to the point where people can really use it as a storage of value. With all the current network congestion, using as a form of every day currency is not as fluid as it was intended to be (hopefully this is solved in the coming months).
Others are using it as a hedge against fiat currencies that can be fiddled around with by governments.

I think they hold on to the fact that bitcoin value will always rise up from the fall. Every fall it get there will always a big comeback, and besides bitcoin is the pioneer of this industry, no one can ruined them a lot of people are trusting them. They do not want to make harm to their consumers. And with that we can both gain profit, bitcoins are getting higher their sales are getting bigger and our investments are getting higher. |

based on what i see and red about bitcoin users they hold there bitcoin because they are waiting to it's to increase so they could be more satisfied from it's amount. we all know that bitcoin's price is not stable that's why people holds it before they sell it because they know there is still a chance that it's price could be much higher. |

I think the reason why they are still holding their bitcoins is they waiting for the increase value of bitcoin. We all know that bitcoins has the higher value than other crytocurrency and it is still increasing. But sometimes bitcoins is not always in a high value. |
