I feel you on all that but at current crytop prices all i care about is how fast a card can pay foritself , and then youre only paying for the power.

 Then you should be pushing Vega on Monero mining.

 Assuming you can ever FIND the things that is, and that you can find them at less than 50% over MSRP when you DO find one at all.

Those 3000 rpm fans Phil recommended finally came in.  I swapped out the ~1,600 rpm Thermaltake fans and it made all the difference.  Temps are now between 55 and 65 with the GPU fans staying at 50%.

Also got all but 1 card in for the Onda rig.  I'm staggering Zotac 1070Ti Minis with 1070TI AMP!.



This rig is running Delta fans with about the same specs at the fans Phil recommended (but more expensive).  Hope to have the 4th AMP! by Friday, but Christmas mail mayhem might delay it.

How do you like the Colorful vs the Onda?  Those are nice pictures, I've had a hard time finding pictures of either board with the right angle and clarity to see how much space is between the GPUs. It looks like with the right kind of airflow either board would work for 8 GPUs (at least the less power/heat hungry ones).

both are good and neither one likes all 1080ti's

but  3x 1080 ti's and 4x 1070tis  on my colorful  doing 3x690 and 4x475  is 3970 sols at 1050 watts at the kwatt meter.

using all hybrids  with a celeron 3930 and 4gb ram

Is it a heat issue due to the limited spacing, or is it the motherboards flaking out when they have too much power running through for 8 GTX 1080 Ti GPUs?

The Colorful looks like it could be used easier with a server PSU which would be a savings I think.

I just realized I have no clue what brand of Nvidia cards are good for mining. Could you recommend some? ^^
Which brand got the best fans? Lifespan of these cards is crucial

Avoid Gigabyte cards with sleeve bearing fans. I've had to RMA 5 of the cards below in 5 months of mining because the fan either stopped completely or started going haywire e.g. stopping and starting, erratically changing speed etc. They are in a low dust, ~20 degrees C ambient environment and mostly ran <60% fan speed.

There are some tuts around on how to replace the bearings but there's no point on cards still under warranty. I think I'll sell mine on and migrate to a model with more durable fans so keen to hear recommendations too!

 My 3 (so far) Gigabyte minis are going to get RMAed - but they didn't have the fan die, they just outright died.
 My other Gigabyte cards with fan issues are going to get "real" fan replacements at some point - not worth the time and pain to RMA them if the card itself is still working, and should provide better cooling for LESS power.
 I've got a TON of "bought used" NMB 92mm fans sitting around that should fit on a Windforce heatsink fine with a few twist-ties to hold them in place.

 Anything EVGA is ball bearing.
 Same for Sapphire on the AMD side.
 Gigabyte Aorus are ball bearing - nothing else Gigabyte need apply for the last few years. 8-(
 Not sure on ASUS in general, though their blower models are ball bearing.
 MSI seem to all be ball bearing, though not sure on their blower models.
 Zotac - only the Amp EXTREME claims ball bearing, no idea on anything else.

you might wanna try 120mm, two pieces of that can do the job of three 92mm...less work less wiring less fans.tried it on sapphire r9 390 tri x....beats the tri x fans by at least 5c

sleeve bearing fans with issues can be fixed with a drop of good quality oil after you plucked the fan from its base...like this..

I've got a few of the new 12 PCIe ones coming in, if that's the case maybe I'll just run them 6 Hybrids on board in slots 3-8 then slots 1 & 2 use risers and slots 9-12 have to be risers anyways.

So 6 on risers, 6 on the board itself. I can deal with that.

I think I DID say "one per heatsink".
120mm wouldn't FIT right, way too high.

 I've done the "relube" thing too many times to count - and it never works for long as the seals are ALREADY shot by the time you do that.
 Short-term "buy time for a better option" at BEST, usually lucky to get a month of working fan out of relubing and if the bearing/shaft is too WORN you won't get a week if it works at all.

 EVGA SC 1070 ti x 2, Gigabyte Windforce (3-fan) 1080, Zotac 1080 Mini, Gigabyte 1070 ITX (for as long as THAT one lasts).
 Riser spacing is wider than design, as the ITX doesn't need clearance vs the 2x4 - normally the 2'nd through 5'th risers would be a little closer together.

 In the "back" pic you can also see part of my "airbox" setup for getting filtered air into the room - definitely a low-tech solution but it works.


 Those Vegas must have JUST gotten posted for sale - that stuff wasn't THERE 2 hours ago when I was on Newegg looking for Vega 56 and at available 1070 ti options.

Colorful pros:

• Can use server PSU as all it needs is 8x 6-pin PCIe power
• Fan power headers in the perfect place

Colorful cons:

• Slot spacing very tight
• Custom 4-pin to 4-pin CPU power cable
• Expensive DDR4 SODIMM ram

Onda pros:

• Slot spacing is perfect

Onda cons:

• Slot0 won't take a full length card
• Molex and Sata power connectors
• ATX power connector
• Fan headers not accessible with GPUs installed
• Expensive DDR4 SODIMM

The Onda V2.0 takes care of just about all the cons with V1.0.  About the only con left is that you need a PICO if you want to use a server PSU since it retains the ATX power connector.

that is a 2x 120mm on a 390 sapphire tri x, you just have to raise it a little bit higher...


i don't know about seals being "ALREADY shot" fans just snap out and snap back in, fixed the wiggling from an HIS rx 480 recently, a msi r9 390 - a fan sometimes not turning, when you spin it with your finger it doesn't spin smoothly..you can feel the lack of lubrication..a msi r9 290x twin frozr and a sapphire 280x dual x too..for me so far so good..

here is a 3x 92mm on a fury strix at 48c..I think you will need three BTW....for me I prefer 2x 120mm


note: the riser on this fury strix and on that 390 is 4 years old
