... wow ...

I'll add another theory to the list of theories on what Avalon did:

1)  110 nm Chip orders opened in April.
2)  April - June use 110 nm Chip orders to fund 55 nm chips / sign deal with TSMC using 110nm chip order money as a loan to get 55 nm chips.
3)  Order, with whatever is leftover (as an afterthought), 110 nm chips at a later date than the order should have been done (Hence them receiving their 9/4/2013 batch of 400,000 110 nm chips - if those were received at all).
4)  Act like they've had their well being threatened all the while they were busy working on 55 nm / signing contracts with TSMC.

---> 5)  Expect people to fall on the 55 nm chips because, apparently, they're compatible with 110 nm chip designs?  Therefore, even if people refund from 110 they still get the money on 55 ...

Does this seem like a somewhat valid theory?

*weilds his tin foil hat*

Edit:  On another note -->  Would it be possible to know what modifications, if any, would be needed for 55 nm chips to work on the 110 nm design presently provided on Github so that decisions can be made?  As in, are the PCB designs reusable with the 55 nm design or absolutely not?  Also, some hash numbers per chip?  Currently the newsletter implies no serious modification (serious modifications as in re manufacturing the PCBs vs minor such as different resistors / capacitors.) necessary other than maybe a new bistream for the controller board?
Whats interesting about Avalons current strategy is there is no extra development time needed for implementing (on hand) 55nm chips.

The thought crossed my mind that they might do that....

I just wonder what kind of advantages the design changes brought to the table? (Heat and electricity or extra clocking?)

For the DIY manufacturers this is good news, as the hardware that's already at hand and would have been trash, could maybe now be used.
We've got loads of parts that have no other use now,
and with the money tied on those we'd be able to buy a decent condo.
However the point for that excercise falls away if the new chips turn out to have the same hashrate as before.

Even if they'd be given for free for the DIY manufacturers, it's still in the limit of reaching any ROI, considering what's coming from the competitors, the chips should pack quite a punch to be effective anymore at any level.
For us, electricity is free and still it looks bad.

However, that would be the only reason why I'd even consider anything from Bitsyncom anymore.
Lets hope the DIY still have the parts and plans. Hopefully they will be in a good position to get a second wind as Open Manufacturers.

I just wonder how high the hash rate could have jumped from 110nm to 55nm per chip?

Is this really gen 2 or just a die shrink disguised as gen 2?

What you guys do not know is they already plan on using the 3rd gen ASICs for their very own Bitcoin Server farms.

All at the same time.  Yifu / Avalon still have not honored thousands of dollars of trade-ins ~5 months later.

Yufu, our Order #10605 of Bizwoo batch#1 has already a delay of 1 month, and batches ordered later, and almost in time, are already been refunded. We don't want any more your worthless chips we wanted 1 month ago when your "no bullshit" terms were still no bullshits.

Please send our refund asap, we are getting very nervous...
Thank you

9/12/2013, still not heard anything from Avalon of Yifu about our trade-ins being added to the store.

As far as I can confirm he only addressed about 3 customer trade-ins out of many.

Yifu I'd like you to address the trade-in issues.

Thanks.

I've noticed an intense drop in the beating of chests and the gnashing of teeth in this thread.

Bitsyncom, you might take note of this and realize it's better for your chi when you keep your customers informed.  Just a thought.

Sad but true.
