As long as we are clear that luck cannot be predicted, and keep superstition and stupidity out of this thread, that's all I ask.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

In order to drive more users to BitMinter just post about your positive experiences with the pool and why it's worth it; bickering within the thread isn't going to attract any new users.

Personally, I use three pools at any one time, and BitMinter is the only one that I've always been consistent with. I've tried Eligius, BTCGuild, Discusfish (f2pool), P2pool, Deepbit, and quite a few more. The one reason I keep a permanent home at BitMinter isn't about luck since that varies; it's because the Doc has built a very good pool with excellent services around it and is really helpful to users.

When I started mining I was messing around with GUIMiner and GPU's on Deepbit and when I discovered the Doc I was struck by how easy his app was to use. That made me switch instantly. As I've upgraded my equipment and don't use my PC at all to mine anymore I've stayed with the Doc simply because BitMinter has excellent uptime, a powerful API that makes it one of the best pools to monitor when away from the PC, and a useful donation scale that makes me choose how much I wish to donate and unlocks perks as I up the donation. I think these are all great reasons to choose BitMinter. Add NMC merged mining and this is one heck of a solid offering of a pool. As we have already established that we can't change luck, I choose to constantly support a pool with the features that -I- find to be valuable!

The hash rate is dropping as people jump to other pools because of bad luck.  As soon as there's a streak of 3 or 4 quick blocks, you'll start seeing people coming back.  They'll lose trying to chase the luck.  It works out for those who stick it out since our percentage of each block will increase with the drop in hash rate.

hi, as you all know, i fairly new here, i choose this pool initially because of the ease of  use on the bitminter client, and as ive purchased more usb, i stayed here because of the assistance i have gotten.

not just from doc, but from other users in setting up the usb miners.

i plan on staying long term, i wont be chaning or leaving any time soon

Yeah, we have a lot of awesome helpful people both here and in the IRC chat (I just wish people would wait more than 1 minute for an answer before leaving IRC Wink )

+1

The 1% fee (which has seemed pretty standard and makes sense as the pool server needs to be covered on costs) is a small price for the help and overall friendliness I've seen from the pool over the past year and a half.

I don't know about the Avalons, but USB Block Erupters and Antminers need the Silabs Driver.

No they don't. There's no driver necessary with cgminer because it uses direct USB.

To reiterate:

bfgminer - needs driver

cgminer - no driver - in fact if you have loaded them you need to disable or unload them.
