I don't think that Cardano or IOTA can be a competitor of Ethereum. In my opinion, only Neo has got the potential to match Ethereum in future, as it is already called Chinese Ethereum.

Cardano, Stellar, Tron, Neo and EOS

I like Tron more from this whole list.
Tron can support both smart and simple contracts written in Java. Compared to Ethereum, where developers need to use the native programming language Solidity, using popular Java allows more developers to work on the Tron platform. Tron has better scalability due to the use of Google Protobuf.

Here Is My Opinion:

Truly informative message  Grin

I see only 2 real competitors to Ethereum: Lisk and Waves. Both are platform coins, both are very fast and provide cheap transactions. And the most important is: there are already some successful ISOs on these platforms.

Waves really exceed etherium in some way (scalability, low commissions, programming language). But in reality, waves project is not competitor.
This is another example that only idea isnt enough. You need to be able to promote it to the masses.

Personally, I think that at the glimpse of the Ethereum there are no competitors since it is roaring in its own way and has earned its credibility with its users not in one day. And Ethereum each time improves its technology and fills them with innovative systems. And for the next 50 years, Ethereum will keep the leading places among cryptocurrencies.

Maybe Waves is a competitor for Ethereum, but in my opinion Ethereum is a favorite coin for many people. many use the Ethereum platform and he is the best Altcoin on Crypto he has proven his abilities and he will benefit you in the future. it all depends on you which is best for you, in the Crypto world there are many coins that compete to attract someone to buy it.

I believe in NEO and IOTA. These coins are going to overcome Ethereum but not in the upcoming few years. These coins need time and audience to develop further and to come at the top of the market.

Theres a lot of potential coins to be competitors for ethereum, especially now ethereum has been slip down. The biggest competitors for ethereum is XRP because a few months ago he can take position 2 from ETH and i optimistic XRP can take the position 2 again in the near future.

It is strange to consider Ripple a competitor of Ethereum. Yes, its market cap is high but I do not think that this centralized currency will grow sufficiently. The main rivals of ETH are NEO and Cardano.

Which are the best competitors to Ethereum, and why do you think so?

(I know on top of my head that Cardano and IOTA try to challenge Ethereum,
although they still haven't proved much from my understanding?)

In my opinion, XRP will be the biggest rival of ETH. Now XRP has risen to just $ 1 billion ETH. That shows they are booming in a bad market like this. XRP has a solid foundation to survive and develop very stable. So I think it will be the biggest rival to ETH now.

IOTA isn't really a direct competitor to eth, even though there are both top coins.
ETH is a smart contract platform and IOTA is crypto for the internet of things.

So IOTA doesn't have the same functions, instead it's main selling point is that it is free, fast, and scalable.
It also is aiming to be the sole transactional currency for the internet of things, basically the source of transactions for the hyper connected world we are going towards.

ADA, on the other hand, is a direct competitor to eth but I don't think it stands a chance.
The main reason why is because it can't even compete with neo, zilliqa, stellar and the others, let alone eth.
ADA is seriously lagging behind on development.  No matter how good things sound on paper, it won't matter if your mainnet isn't released.

Just look at eos, people thought it would be the eth killer but it took way too long to release their mainnet.
Now, it is losing steam and momentum fast.

NEO is China's Ethereum but I have not seen it utilized the way Ethereum was utilized last ICO boom of 2017.
Let's see in the coming years which Alt will be 2nd to BTC.

In terms of market capitalization, the potential rival of the ETH is the XRP or BCH, as these two coin are likely to rise in the future. In my view, the ETH is nearing a period of decline and no longer exists. Be competitive with other coins. Because the ICO battered the ETH coin, and now the ETH value is only $ 200, too low compared to the previous period.

The competitor of the ethereum may become a new crypt to no one. As I observe, there are such coins as RKT8, which are developing very intensively and may well hit ethereum.

No, Ethereum cannot compete with Bitcoin. However, there are very good projects that can become real rivals of ETH. These are NEO (it is on the first place, to my mind), EOS, Waves, and Cardano.
