people assigned to this little project are having a lack of time problems, so we are looking for someone who could help with writing the letter to the univerisites/tech people. I agree, we need articles/theses/dissertations first. It would be fantastic, if you wrote a letter - an invitation to Nxt for those people - academics, philosophers, developers, entrepreneurs... Sending the letter to 1.000 universities would be easy for me, I just need a letter This is a difficult task, because these people will be very intelligent as well as have limited time. So we need to present NXT in a few paragraphs that will convince even those who have no idea what cryptocurrencies are to take a look. It will need to highlight what problems NXT intends to solve, how NXT will solve them, and how the person who is reading the paper can make a meaningful contribution. Additionally, it would have to look very "refined" (something we could print out on a pamphlet, for example) yet clearly indicate that this letter is from the NXT community as a whole. Maybe Anon could help me with this it should be quite short with links to wiki, short introduction, maybe with some open questions so the reader could think - oh, this is what I could help with, but most important would be language - to persuade a reader this is worth of sime attention. we should not rely on the wiki (as much as possible) to convince the reader, and write same very convincing arguments to use NXT, which was my original goal. some points written by panda are here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1G9D0s8TQO8DpQkAZudRkyM1TPUldakw16IUbo2iSkOc/edit

In my experience with hundreds of physicists and philosophers I have contacted over the years through mail I can tell you that most are friendly and interested in new things just like everyone else. So don't overestimate someones stature just because of their diplomas. I think most would be interested in cryptocurrencies from a philosophical point of view. I.E. how it removes a lot of the common trust issues that are in the traditional banking system. I would also imagine that Game Theoreticians would find interesting puzzles with the technology.

I'm trying to run NRS on my Xperia smartphone. I installed ubuntu on it, 0.8.3 starts without any problem. But, during the download of the blockchain, ubuntu crashes after some download. I start with 512M in run.sh Is there any parameter in properties, which I can tweak in order to manage somewhow blockchain downloading to database?

There is no way for us to check the history of withdrawals in a DGEX account ID and figure out password problems for an exchange site. Please try this thread there - https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,3.0.html

- you can try nxt.dbCacheKB=128000 or even nxt.dbCacheKB=96000 instead of default value of 0 (half of all memory). It works for my 512Mb VPS.

Whats the *real* deal with BTC paper wallets versus trying to do it with NXT?
People have been saying that NXT cannot accomplish this because to have 2^256 security for a NXT account requires publishing of the NXT public key, thus being online. Partially correct. You are right that one needs to publish his public key. If you don't publish your key, somebody else just needs to find a collision with 2^64 difficulty to match your account number, and then spend your coins. But you don't have to publish your key from the same computer. You can sign the transaction offline and broadcast the raw transaction bytes from another computer. It seems to me that it shouldnt be too much different - to be 100% sure with a BTC paper wallet, shouldnt you boot to a live CD and generate the wallet from there? Sure, you dont have to be online to do this and there is no public key to publish, but is publishing a public key really that big of a deal, especially since it can be done by booting to a liveCD and running NRS from there? discuss.
Don't confuse the public key generation and publishing with the need to be online. In both BTC and NXT you can generate public keys offline, and you can sign transactions offline. Let's assume you do this, you generate both your BTC and NXT public keys offline. The important difference, is that in Bitcoin nobody needs to know your public key, and you can still be perfectly safe while receiving funds. In NXT, you must publish your public key in the blockchain to be secure, by making at least one outgoing transaction. Afterwards, since your public key is visible, one can make (futile) attempts with 2^256 difficulty to crack it. In practice, cracking a 256 bit key is almost impossible, so once you publish your public key you are pretty much safe.

NXT FUNDING COMMITTEE VOTE STARTS IN 12 HOURS AT 12:01 AM MARCH 1 (UTC)
CANDIDACY DECLARATION CLOSES ONE HOUR BEFORE VOTING STARTS. DECLARE YOUR CANDIDACY BY 11:01 PM FEB 28 (UTC)Remaining eligible nominees with as-yet undeclared intentions 2Kool4Skewl, Arckam_(frmelin), bitcoinpaul, buybitcoinscanada, Come-from-Beyond Damelon, davethetrousers, drevil, ferment, Fry, hughmanwho, jl777, Klee, landomata, laowai80, msin, mww nexern, opticalcarrier, PeercoinEnthusiast, Pouncer, Ricot, SecondLeo, smaragda, VanBreuk, ZeroTheGreatSomething Zahlen said: A candidate does not need to be good at writing English. Some candidates may not have English as their mother tongue. If you're voting, don't confuse lots of writing for ability to judge the worth of a project. Remember that ultimately the committee's job is to decide which projects get funded. If you are on this list and want to be on a NXT funding committee, go here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=479167.msg5280476#msg5280476Background: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg5280786#msg5280786NOTE SLATE UPDATES:
(Actually, antanst was a little late to the nominee party and was never on the blue list above. But he's a coder, he runs multiple NXT nodes and he wrote the NXT Reddit tipbot. Since I'm drunk with power and making the rules here, I say he's now a candidate for techdev. If you disagree, don't vote for him - run against him!).
(However, I am not so drunk that I'm gonna let just anybody on this slate. Newbie BC.NXT has posted on the candidate thread. However, after checking his credentials and posting background, I will not be listing him on the slate or ballot. To quote the mythical American television commercial: Sorry, Charley, only the best tuna get to be Star-Kist.)
(Another non-nominated NXTer has posted to be a candidate: BaiMangal. He is a coder, a frequent poster of serious posts, and runs the website www.quicknxt.com. I am adding him to the slate for techdev.)
(Jean-Luc has declared his candidacy for techdev.)
(rickyjames has withdrawn his candidcy for infrastructure.)
(CoinTropolis_JustaBitTime has declared his candidacy for marketing.) WE NOW HAVE A FULL SLATE. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_slateGood luck to these nominees who have declared themselves candidates: NXTmarketingfund: allwelder, Damelon, Mario123, Asian Prepper, joefox, brooklynbct, CoinTropolis_NiftyNikel, Uniqueorn, salsacz, CoinTropolis_JustaBitTime NXTtechdevfund: EmoneyRu, Anon136, l8orre, abuelau, antanst, BaiMangal, Jean-Luc NXTinfrastructurefund: chanc3r, EvilDave, pandaisftw, ChuckOne, ^[GS]^Yeah, you may have seen this before. I'll be putting it up every ten pages or so. It's one of those "legitimate, transparent process" things.

In practice, cracking a 256 bit key is almost impossible, so once you publish your public key you are pretty much safe.
After AC is implemented Nxt will be even safe from "quantum computing" attacks (theoretical ways of being able to determine private keys from public ones in the future).

Do you have the time to write a couple of short paragraphs about these developments? A friend of mine is writing the first thorough book on Cryptocurrencies and we need as much NXT info in there as possible.
