Shit i'm screwed, i have 18 S1's coming in tomorrow with DHL. UPS last time was 80€ for 3 S1's, i hope DHL is not to expensive, or it was my last direct order via bitmain themselfs! WHY DID BITMAIN CHANGE COURIER WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE???Their ORDER website states: UPS is for international shipment by default, DHL and EMS are also available, while making a special comment if needed. S.F. Express is for domestic shipment.

Besides all the crap about customs costs, why did they suddenly pick DHL? I have 3 orders, 2 were shipped on the 25th by DHL and they're still somewhere between Hong Kong and Amsterdam, they'll be delivered monday or tuesday next week. The last order was shipped the 26th by UPS and will be delivered today. And like I posted in another Bitmain thread: I've ordered about 20 ants over the last months, duty was always around €50 to €30 and the last ones were free. I can set myself to seeing this as being lucky for not having to pay much.
However, because the costs have never been high, everybody counts on them to stay low. The big problem here is that Bitmain decided to ship them out as $900 value WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE ABOUT IT!! They should know this brings extra costs for their customers, so why didn't they tell? Probably because they were afraid for getting less orders.
I personally would still have ordered with them, but then at least I knew I could count on additional costs which I could include in my calculations.
The problem is not them changing it, the problem is them not telling us.

Exactly! This is the problem!!! And a big one! Yes it would have been nice to have been told of this, as it would have made me think twice about the order. The Bitcoin to purchase was mined and was all I had available, and is not an issue. Even if it goes down after my order then hey ho that's life. My problem is cash. We are not particularly well off and with the money on top we had for the power supply set aside we were quite down on available cash and even room on the debit card for regular purchases. So an extra not budgeted £70 is a squeeze to find. On top off that it is looking like Tuesday of next week for delivery which is an extra 2 days over what UPS delivered the others in. When money is tight it all matters.

Perhaps it's a better idea to do some explanation about all the trouble caused (changing to DHL and increasing package value without telling us prior to ordering) instead of giving us numbers which one can get themselves within a minute?

Guys I am sure that Bitmain didn't do this intentionally.
Are your Ants delivered by DHL btw?
DHL is a b*tch when it comes to customs & tax.
Anyways, I am sure Bitmain will look into your matter and probably compensate. They might give you coupons to make up. Maybe not.
Who knows?

Thanks to those who have posted about the increased charges especially in the UK, I had been wavering about a large order as it was too near breakeven but this makes it not a good deal as it adds BTC0.3 to the cost. I think the trouble with DHL is that there base charges are so high compared to UPS, for example some cables that I just got in from China that were $100 cost me £30 ($50) in charges. Please bitmain go back to UPS

Actually DHL charges are about the same as UPS, the real problem is that Bitmain started to declare Ants $900 instead of $140 without any notice.

Update, sent Bitmain a PM on here (no reply to either of my emails) and they said this... (I hope they don't mind me quoting them)
"Declaring the true value is requested by the customs, otherwise miners will be stuck when importing, the customs is keeping an eye on Ants, they clearly know the miners' value."
Looks like this will be the standard from now on.

It depends on the country, for example in my country customs don't care at all about what inside the package, they just call me and ask what inside and "some computer hardware" is good enough answer for them. So Bitmain why did you send the packages with the value declared even higher than the current real price without letting the customers know?

That surely must depend on the country in question . I've never had problems with customs here and would prefer the risk to paying over 25% of the declared value. Leave the choice to the customer please. The margins are thin as they are, the added robbery by customs is pushing it firmly into the no deal zone.

Actually I never even deal with customs directly. UPS and FedEx take care of it most of the time, I just get a bill in the mail a week or two later.
