Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Whenever Poolers Isn't around I think something big has happened Tongue

Nothing big happened. Stayed up real late to launch the zeit pool but there were a couple pools that were up before source was released so everyone that was lined up to mine with us jumped ship in the first 15 minutes. It was a total fail so I went to bed. Those big launches are pure chaos.  We had a large number of pre-registrations and some of them had some huge hashing power but there is just no way to compete with an official pool that is ready before launch and starts out with over 5 GH.  I always say I wont get in on coins where the devs have the their own pool but I did it with Maxcoin and again with zeit.  Never again...for real this time.

that sounds awfully unfair...
but at lease we have COINO! Cheesy which is rising as we speak! keep up the good work fellow miners!

I guess it comes with the territory when you run a pool. Still, you are making 1.5% of all mining in the pool - that's got to be nice.

ATTENTION minersbit users

If you have an account on minersbit.com make sure you are not using the same login or password anywhere else.  Their site has been hacked and account logins were stolen.

Whether it was hacked or the site was a scam to begin with, your login is in the hands of someone untrustworthy. Make sure it is different from everywhere else.

QFT. Always sign up with a unique password to unverified sites. It's wise to do so on all sites anyways.
The site seemed bait as hell to begin with, and the fact that the passwords were in plaintext....

Seriously, I've felt your pain before. Would be even worse trying to host a pool! There was a few coins I wanted to get in on the launch but it always fucks up somehow. So frustrating. I remember posting on the launch thread "WHAT THE FUCK THIS SHIT IS FUCKED HELP ME!!" hahahah. Definitely the best way to get a hand  Roll Eyes

It wouldn't have been too bad if the pools all got the source at the same time. I was expecting more issues from DDoS attacks than anything but I didnt hear anything about any attacks. There were clear signs of it being just another big pump and dump with no long term support in mind.  The devs hosted their own pool and had the wallet compiled and ready for release. A couple pools were up and running before the source was given out.  People were more concerned about all joining the same pool than spreading out.  The pool with over half the hashrate refuses to close registrations.  Millions of coins hit the exchange in the first 15 minutes.  The list goes on...

I think the only pool that is doing well on zeit that did not get an unfair head start was dedicatedpool.  They have a pretty decent sized community to begin with though so it is not surprising that the unfair launch for pools didn't effect them as much.  If you are going to do any mining for zeit I would recommend giving dedicatedpool your hashpower. They are the only pool where you will find blocks regularly on zeit without supporting one of the pools run by shady admins.

Its tougher on CentOS because most of the guides tell you to install packages using apt get instead of yum and sometimes it is hard to find a yum equivalent package. There are some guides out there for CentOS but I never had any luck with them and switched to ubuntu.
