By all means do it. The block investigation showed the top wallet with 190k coins. But please post your link.

I think it was me that suggested the airdrop. Chinese whispers have taken hold of this topic.

I don't think we should airdrop into the existing coin. That was not the suggestion.

The proposition was that clones will pop-up once darskend is open sourced. The darkcoin brand still brings up discussion, which means some like it, some don't. If its happening now, it will happen in the future.  I'm more concerned about the darksend brand, but that has now been voted on, so unless there is a veto, that is now decided.

The notion was that a clone with a shitty neutral color and a friendly smiley face would take the limelight and become the acceptable face of anonymity, i.e. internet cash, without having done the hard work of Evan, the rest of the people that got darkcoin to where it is and the miners who invest in electricity at a loss.

Rather than let someone else benefit via cloning, the concept was to be prepared to launch a happy smiley face version of darkcoin when darksend was out, being marketed etc, and competing with zerocash, dark wallet and other zerocoin implementations.

The second implementation was suggested to be in the wings announced and ready to go but with a big gap in time - 3 / 6 months or so depending on the time it takes clone coins to implement a viable darksend.

The airdrop was to give existing darkcoin holders a big stake in the happy smiley darkcoin v2 while retaining a stake in darkcoin which would have a market leading position in the areas that like it.

The result was to have the bitcoin / litecoin relationship; make launching a clone by others pointless; avoid the pump and dump clones; and to provide a mechanism to incentivise new investors into darkcoin right now with the option of an airdrop if a clone threatens to launch.

It would also act as a hedge against those that raise the concern that the 'dark connection' will put off main street because they are concerned about its use in the back street.

So Chinese whispers over.  If everyone wants the status quo then that's fine. The points were raised, discussed, voted upon. Lets move on.  We all have the option to invest in happy smiley clone coin if that comes.

EDIT - I'm two months late into darkcoin. I missed the first 48 hours. I have invested and hold a substantial amount of darkcoin and I mine a noticeable amount at a loss.

Those that gained a super stake at the start are lucky. Good for them. I just hope that they don't dump the coin into oblivion at the first opportunity. I think darkcoin can be a $1bn coin. Lets hope they wait until there is sufficient volume to not notice their dumping otherwise they and everyone else will lose out.

A 24 hour super mine would benefit me, but I'm against it. I'd prefer a clone back-up. That way the dumpers can dump, those with a longer-term view can have an insurance plan.

cross-post. sorry to bloat.

Looks like a lot of you have got your knickers in a bunch over the suggestion of an airdrop. Just because it has been put up for a vote, does not mean it will be implemented. I'm pretty sure Evan will not go through with it based on the comments coming through. The only people who seem to be in favour have come out of the woodwork to support the idea. I

About the name - I think the Darkcoin is quite a good name, however if majority wants to change and vote, here's couple ideas:

BitCash
iCash
MyCash
E-Cash

best name is taken:  anoncoin

iCash.

Internet cash. Simple. But only as a name for DarkSend. Leave darkcoin now it has been discussed to death.

Plus we get to wave the finger at Apple.

iCash doesn't say what Darksend does. Honestly I mine darkcoin because the price is stable. This incessant urge to mess with things doesn't help. There is so much uncertainty in the crypto world right now that getting written off takes incredibly little. There is a huge amount to be said for consistency.
That said as a graphic designer the flat black logo gets my vote.  Smiley

As for the whole airdrop thing? That would be hell in a hand basket to implement fairly. Every troll in the universe will leap on it with glee and scammers will have a field day. What about posting hefty rewards for people who help the coin. Spread the love but as payment. Someone who has invested time and receives a reward is more likely to be loyal to the coin and we don't end up with a dump situation.

Investors are moving from dying Dogecoin to  Darkcoin. They are specially injected panic around coins to reduce its price to be bought.

The only way to make the point clear that something along that line is total bullshit is with your wallet.

Telling everyone to simply move along is belittling the situation, and I won't have it.

I've decided to speak with my wallet, and will be staying away until he stops cutting out 10% of the coin every other fucking week.

Instamine, Hacked exchange, reduction from 80million to 20million, 10% of mining goes to node fees, darksend nodes require 1000 fucking dark (which in my eyes is a blatant attempt to force us to buy more with the incentive of 10% of the mining, why not start at 100 until the coin is a bit further along?), and now even mentioning a 10% airdrop? Fuck that.

I've stayed quiet on a lot of it, but with this I'm done. Anonymity isn't worth is. Clearly the guy's a great programmer, but lacks as an economist.

lol eduffield you have 2000000 DRK and dont even send 100 DRK to your contributors as bounties

wtf
Think you misread what he wrote, go and read it again.

Anyway

Not at all: YOU read wrong my dear

The first 24 hours of the coins existence keep causing us problems, an "airdrop" could be a solution to this. We could airdrop all holders (uniquely verified) with a equal portion of coin. This coin would come from a block in the future that paid 2 million+ coins to a specific address that I hold[/size].

The IRS ruling on having to declare mined coins is a problem for Satoshi, if he is subject to USA tax.

Should we reach out to Satoshi and ask him to test darksend?  Of all the people that could use it, he is number 1. Grin

Yeah, it really says something about community when people panic sell over a poll.  Hey, cheap coins for those of us that don't have weak hands.

Don't be a sore miner mate. He held a community vote before making any of those changes. Not everyone can be happy. Unfortunately you'e not. BTW very cheeky of you to put that link to bytecoin or whatever. Hilarious really. I take pride in the fact that DRK enthusiasts don't swarm threads to troll or proselytize, its always the other way round. I sincerely hope you stick around and not let a little discussion get you miffed.

High volume of dumping on Cryptsy just now. I'll bet all my DRK that it was the mere mention of the word airdrop. Jesus, I can't believe this has even come up.

That's exactly it. That's also the reason I went into the safe and pulled my paperwallets and have them sent to the exchanges. The second this is greenlighted for a go on the airdrop, I am dumping 5 figures worth. I'm really hoping Evan comes to his senses about this.

Lol, investor confidence used to be an abstract phrase to me. But right now I can feel my own seeping out. Evan needs to comment ASAP.

Yes, please quash this airdrop idea. Will only cause pain. The big early holders have probably dumped most of their coins anyway. Keep up the good work on Darksend instead!

+1 +1 stop Airdrop DRK

Ok, sorry, bad idea . The Airdrop is off and I'll delete the voting thread

As far as I know the hacked exchange has nothing to do with the developers of darkcoin.
The reduction from 80 to 20 million is good news if you're planning on holding, especially with the block rewards reducing 7% annually.
I think rewarding the master nodes is a great idea to be honest. I don't think miners are the only ones who should rewarded, after all I've seen a few houlier than thou comments from miners regarding traders but miners are just as likely to be dumpers (not just of DRK). Rewarding the master nodes compensates anyone who is willing to hold DRK.
I agree with you that 1000 DRK is probably too high a requirement for master nodes.

Now that the air cleared (no pun intended), let's focus on 2 areas which a lot of member suggested.

1) Darksend

Clearly this is mostly on Evan's shoulder, with us participating in testing and AnonyMint sparking healthy discussion

2) Marketing

We're a community, so if you feel like part of it, please help. Let us know which area and how much can you do.

Please quote this part of the post, add the name / area.
We need a marketing leader who could coordinate/steer efforts / gather donations for professionals etc (if LimLim is not keen on that).
We need press releases, photo/video ads, case studies, social sites managers etc.
I'll start.

luke997 - co-create/proof read/distribute press releases, case studies

P.S. It wouldn't harm to agree and draft a standard, factual reply with the answer to the 24/48h for the ones who come from time to time and ask it.
