High volume of dumping on Cryptsy just now. I'll bet all my DRK that it was the mere mention of the word airdrop. Jesus, I can't believe this has even come up.

That's exactly it. That's also the reason I went into the safe and pulled my paperwallets and have them sent to the exchanges. The second this is greenlighted for a go on the airdrop, I am dumping 5 figures worth. I'm really hoping Evan comes to his senses about this.

Lol, investor confidence used to be an abstract phrase to me. But right now I can feel my own seeping out. Evan needs to comment ASAP.

Yes, please quash this airdrop idea. Will only cause pain. The big early holders have probably dumped most of their coins anyway. Keep up the good work on Darksend instead!

+1 +1 stop Airdrop DRK

Ok, sorry, bad idea . The Airdrop is off and I'll delete the voting thread

Idea suggested. Community spoke against it. Not implemented. Simple.
No reason for any of this panic.

In other news, cheap DRK at Cryptsy -- get it while you can.  Tongue

Looks like a lot of you have got your knickers in a bunch over the suggestion of an airdrop. Just because it has been put up for a vote, does not mean it will be implemented. I'm pretty sure Evan will not go through with it based on the comments coming through. The only people who seem to be in favour have come out of the woodwork to support the idea. I

Yeah, it really says something about community went people panic sell over an poll.  Hey, cheap coins for those of us that don't have weak hands.

If anyone was thinking they want to run a masternode, it's a decent opportunity to grab 1000DRK.  I'll be releasing the code tomorrow to launch your masternode and we'll hard fork in the next 4 weeks to begin payments.

Well well... I go away for a week and 60 more pages on the thread... Smiley

I'm glad the airdrop idea is off the table - and I'm glad we will be moving that much closer to Darksend implementation...

Is that the final number?

While I have enough for a few nodes, wouldn't you think 250 or maybe 500DRK a bit more reasonable?  Even considering the technical knowledge one is expected to have in order to run a node.

Also, is the final number going to be scaled against price so that the cost in fiat to run a masternode stays roughly constant?

This + cheap Darks (thanks those who contributed  Grin ) = my stash even bigger

I have to say though, Darks price resiliency to news/dumps attempts never ceases to amaze me.
That tells a lot.

I don't think scaling to price is feasible -- scaling to diff might be a good idea though, because 1000 DRK could mean anything in a year from now.

reduction from 80million to 20million

this was a horrible move.

not only it did not increase the price

it actually made the unfair-distribution-of-coins situation worse.

now the early miners are at even more advantage.

the coin numbers should be increased to 160 million to dilute the excess-early-mine issue.

great tech guys but when it comes to economy they are pretty much retarded.

There is no unfair distribution situation.
Early miners have dumped what they mined already. They have been early - profited, good for them.
Many already posted proofs of that. Early sales, largest wallets etc. If anyone from the early days had considerable amount, would have dumped it already at > @ 0.002 and walked away loaded. That didn't happen.

There was always enough volume to buy, when DRKs bought with the stolen BTC got dumped - all got buyers.
Couple days ago someone put 84BTC buy wall - guess what - no dump.

Coins have been distributed and no more dilution is necessary - it will only cause price drop.

The price as well as the volume at the exchanges has changed very little comparing before and after this change(this was done a while ago mind you). DRK has been one of the most consistent coins in terms of price in the last few weeks while other popular ones like Doge have fallen.

Take your panic elsewhere.

I've been thinking about the supply issue since the reward reduction went into effect, and I know Evan has an economics background (and I don't) so I'll pose this question:

Darkcoin has a number of innovative features, including the ability to adjust rewards based on difficulty. So you have an intelligent network at that rudimentary level. Would it not be possible to code a more demand-based max coin limit?

* It seems to me that any ceiling set in a tech-related field eventually becomes a liability. Anyone remember 640k limits? the Y2K "bug"?

* There is still an ongoing hubub about the unfair initial distribution of the coin. Whether it is really unfair or not, the complaint, and apparently the perception, remains.

* In 20 years, if things go as we all hope, it is quite possible that we will need a larger supply to deal with the demand. But how much? And how will it be decided?

Would it be possible for the network to adjust to an combination of inputs, such as an increasing demand + decreasing hash rate by allowing more coins to be created, but in a way that is both transparent, rational, and pre-programmed? If everyone involved knew the rules far in advance, it would further enhance this coin by increasing the stability and its use as a store of value.
