Guys lets focus on RC5 and open source, shall we? Whatever the name of DarkTor should be is totally irrelevant and unimportant at this point. One step at a time.

+1 Getting an outlook is great, but it might have been a bit too early to even mention DarkTor.

The current roadmap is 3-6 weeks for RC5 then open source. Also according to Eltito (on darkcointalk), IP obsufication is a core part of their privacy goals and thus will likely be the next big thing after open sourcing Darksend.

In other words, DarkTor is a long way off.  As you said, one step at a time.

If you squint it looks like we are skirting a 3 month downtrend line. Want to see that broken on good volume! Gonna need some help to get through it though.

Ok its official !!

I've updated all my clients (at least all that have been online!) so I will be leaving next weekend for an undetermined number of days.
Anyone wanting a Masternode (or update) do it NOW, or regret it later!

I may well radically change my service. Will take the time off to think about it.

Litecoin Price and Darkcoin Price Lead Massive Altcoin Comeback
Josiah Wilmoth

21/08/2014

The past few days have seen a massive altcoin price recover. The Darkcoin price and Litecoin price are leading the charge.

The past several days have once again shown that cryptocurrency markets remain incredibly volatile. As David Parker reported, Bitcoin markets experienced flash crashes driving the Bitcoin price as low as $300 on one exchange. This volatility quickly extended to altcoin markets as well. Major players including Litecoin, Darkcoin, Peercoin, and Ripple all experienced massive blows to their unit prices and market caps. However, the past few days have brought a massive comeback to the altcoin market, and both the Darkcoin price and Litecoin price are leading the charge.

Litecoin Price Recovers From Crash
The Litecoin price has recovered from the rapid downswing it experienced on August 17-18. After falling to a 30-day low of .0079 BTC, the Litecoin price rallied back to .011 BTC ($4.04 and $5.64 at the current exchange rate). In the past 24 hours alone, the Litecoin price has increased 18.3%.

The reasons for the price decline are not immediately clear, although it is a safe bet that many traders wanted to buy into Bitcoin while its USD exchange rate was low. As the Bitcoin price increased, altcoin prices began to rise again too.

As CoinMarketCap Litecoin price chart below demonstrates, the Litecoin price has not just recovered from its minor crash–it has rallied to a level higher than before the price-swing began.

The Litecoin price 7-day chart from CoinMarketCap shows that Litecoin has recovered past its pre-crash level.

The Litecoin price rebound should quell fears about Litecoin’s immediate future, but the coin’s 30-day Litecoin price chart shows that the coin’s struggles are not a recent problem. Even before the crash, the Litecoin price was enduring a prolonged decline. As long-term holders remember, the Litecoin prices exceeded $10 as recently as June. By early July, the Litecoin price had fallen to $7, although a flash crash temporarily dropped it to $2.21. The Litecoin price continued to decline steadily throughout July, until it became more volatile shortly before the crash.

Darkcoin Price Volatile
Litecoin was not the only major altcoin whose market cap has fluctuated over the past week. Darkcoin, which has consistently remained among the top 5 cryptocurrencies in terms of total market cap throughout the summer, fell prey to the volatility affecting cryptocurrency markets.

On August 8, the Darkcoin price was .0098 BTC ($5.98). Though far lower than the levels it experienced just prior to the masternode update in May, it was still enough to keep Darkcoin’s market cap among the top 3 or 4 altcoins. However, the Darkcoin price experienced an incredible decline from August 8-18, reaching a floor of just $1.54 USD. The resulting drop in market cap almost pushed Darkcoin out of the top 10.

The Darkcoin price fell as low as $1.54 before correcting to $3.78. Darkcoin now sits at #7 in market cap.

On August 19, investors began placing buy pressure on DRK exchanges, driving the Darkcoin price back up. The Darkcoin price increased more than 70%, and it continued to increase on August 20. Over the past 24 hours, the Darkcoin price increased 17.8%. Despite this rapid upswing, the Darkcoin price has not returned to pre-crash levels. At present, the Darkcoin price sits at $3.78, placing its market cap 7th, behind Peercoin and BitSharesX (whose price has risen a remarkable 40% in the past 24 hours).

Future Outlook for the Litecoin and Darkcoin Prices
The Litecoin and Darkcoin prices have not fared incredibly well over the past few months. However, they have both proven themselves capable of remaining among Bitcoin’s top contenders even amid investor uncertainty and resulting price drops. Both Litecoin and Darkcoin rank inCoinGecko’s top 10 in overall coin health, so long-term investors should think twice about liquidating their holdings and investing in the next altcoin fad.

Development Update - August 19, 2014

Bug squashing and the stability of Darksend

During the last week we’ve been squashing bugs in the RC4 client and getting everything as stable as possible. As of the last update, it’s working for nearly everyone and humming along.

The next 3-6 weeks will be spent creating the RC5 client which will have a few minor updates including some known issues resolved along with a basic gui that shows the current status of Darksend.

Also, we’ll be working on improving the Darksend source code and getting it ready for other programmers to help out. It needs heavy commenting and some basic refactoring.

Kristov Atlas and the code/security review

Kristov is preparing deliverables for both the strength of anonymity and the code security of Darksend. Expect this to be released while work on RC5 is ongoing. Depending on what Kristov has found, this could delay RC5 so that we can fix important issues. As it currently stands, that doesn’t appear to be a concern.

Enforcement

Due to the delayed release of RC4, enforcement of masternode payments was not able to be extensively tested. We plan on beginning testing this feature soon. If possible, it will be turned on in mainnet before the launch of RC5.

Open Sourcing

RC5 should be solid for open sourcing. We’ll have someone else look the source over, then we’ll be open-sourcing soon after. While this is ongoing, we’ll start work on our next project.

Utilizing the Masternode network - DarkTor

One of the future goals is to turn the masternode network into a decentralized business for masternode operators. To do this we’ll add features that improve the privacy of end users and compete with centralized businesses. Our first endeavor into this is to make a completely private tor network within Darkcoin.

The Darkcoin network will begin to offer anonymous internet access via the masternode network. As a user, all you’ll have to do is pay a fee for 24 hours of access. This fee will be paid to a masternode in much the same way the masternode fees are paid, using a deterministic algorithm for distributing the payments evenly across the whole network.

There’s a few benefits to running a private tor network through Darkcoin.
Sybil resistant - Due to the cost of obtaining masternodes, it will be very difficult for any one person to view all traffic.
Anonymous Payments - Users can pay anonymously for the service
Private Network - Our tor network will be internal to darkcoin only. All traffic will be paid traffic, so the cost of running the service should be profitable for the masternode operators.
Faster than tor - Tor has historically been very slow. This will be a lean version, that has much higher throughput.

As for the cost of the service we’re thinking $0.50 per day or something to that effect.

We’re still working on the details how this will function and this isn’t a feature that we’re absolutely set on. We’re very interested to get the community’s response to see if it’s viable .

Other Future Ideas

Maybe after it’s opensource other developers can help with some of these ideas:

Are you serious? You do realize that stability is good unlike volatility? Even for Bitcoin, if it was stable the adoption would have expanded much faster.
I'd actually like for DRK to sit where it is for a day or two, and then let the growth start again. However this is not up to us so we will see.

Yes, I absolutely agree that stability is a healthy and a positive aspect of a currency in the crypto world. Especially after last week's madness, it is good to have some quietness. But the end of August is approaching and we are gonna see two announcement: One from Openbazaar about the beta release and the other one from Darkcoin developers about Openbazaar integration. So buckle up, we are in the 'eye of the storm'  Grin We might be seeing price to double by Monday or Tuesday.
