I noticed some interesting ideas being kicked around on DarkcoinTalk in regards to marketing for 2015. Here is a small article about those ideas.Happy New Year! EDIT : if anyone feels like posting that article on the DRK subreddit, please do so, as I am currently shadowbanned on Reddit in general

No I meant what are the risks of using a vltr, amazon or digitalocean VPS since you are using a cold storage setup beside being DDOSed?
The risk is the easy target for FUD that using mostly a few VPS operators will provide. The more decentralized the MN network is, the better. Gotcha. Maybe it'll be better to just leave the minimum VPS requirements in order to run a MN and to remove the vps provider names from the MN guides such as Tao's to make newbies do their own research. I've been advocating that for awhile. Too many just blindly follow it using Vultr because the guide says to use Vultr when the instructions are nearly the same assuming you find a VPS with similar specs and use Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit as the image. Is it posible to make darkcoin wallet available on raspberry pi? Then we would not need VPS and would be able to run masternodes from home. Or there is a fear for showing an IP?

Someone commented on the processor not really being good enough to deal with blockchain as a regular wallet, haven't tried yet.

Considering there are guides out there to running bitcoind on a pi, it should be about equal to run darkcoind, however, you still need a dedicated IP address for your masternode to be seen by the network and you'd be exposing your home IP to to the world (you may or may not care). Also, other factors including dynamic ips, connectivity issues, bandwidth, etc all are additional things to consider when going this route.

Someone commented on the processor not really being good enough to deal with blockchain as a regular wallet, haven't tried yet. There are guides for getting bitcoind running on a pi (forget about the qt client unless you really enjoy lag) that should work for darkcoind, but bear in mind that darkcoind with Darksend etc. is probably going to be working the hardware a bit harder. Instead of a pi you might be better off with something a bit (lot) beefier, eg: http://hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G138745696275You'll also need a static IP to run a Masternode. Reminds me, I was meaning to compile darkcoind on my old Galaxy2 phone for a laugh...

I think the question is why he/she didn't have to wait a few days, but got paid almost straight away after starting the MN. Maybe the reference nodes have a loophole somewhere, or weren't running, who knows? Version: 'unknown' according to drk.mn - Piggo did you compile this yourself, download from darkcoin.io...? Did you noodle with the source?

As far as I know, it should not be even be in line for 500something block.

The same thing happened to me as Piggo around the same time frame. I believe it was the 30th of Nov. I received a payment after having tested a mn setup procedure at home using two separate boxes. Wanted to make sure I could set up the local/remote scenario properly before I tried to start tinkering with other set up possibilities. I had the node online for about 15-20 min. tops before shutting it down after verifying it was on the list. I was surprised to see I had gotten paid obviously, but I wasn't complaining. 😄

I also have a MN that hasn't been paid in 6 days.. And my other has been paid twice in that period.. Will keep waiting.

I think what happen to piggo is that it is listed as : Closed (41m17s) (for the port check) But it is listed 100% Active. (for status).
So no problem, if I remember well one newly installed MN of mine was in the column port check closed for quiet long time before being green... If you have in the last column Active (100%) you are OK, the other column (port check) didn't always show the "real" status (more for freshly installed MN).

If you're grepping 1 with your ip from the masternode list, your masternode is online, seen, and on the list. This is further reiterated if you have a second daemon running locally or on another masternode and grepping for that same ip.

This is what is done for the status (the last column of drk.mn And it's not refresh instantly!
