I suggest there should be some investment limit to ensure fair distribution...

A little bit too late for that. The genesis sale is closed.

Check out ethereum videos from YouTube , Vitalik is sharing some slides and info about distribution, on already closed ether genesis sale, in one of those.

And distribution will continue of course when the actual ether is on the main net and traded.

When is the genesis block being generated??

Winter 2014/15, from their website:

Quote
People interested in acquiring ether to build and distribute decentralized applications, or to pay for their usage, are able to do so in the Genesis Sale using bitcoin, thereby locking-in their supply at a known price. This sale will help us fund the continued development of the software platform, scheduled for release in the winter of 2014/2015.

When Ethereum hits the market.........I'll be there to pick up the pieces of all the get rich quickers who don't know anything about long term development.  I missed out on the IPO but now that I think about it I'm not saddened...chup.  I'll be there at the dip and support Ethereum when all others make their mistakes.

+1! I guarantee people will be picking up Etherium at levels well below the IPO price. And I will be amongst them  Smiley

The coins are not "inside", is a private key that will allow you to redeem the Ethers when the platform launches.

Just keep it safe and don't lose the password, all will be fine.

Well, I would not call it people trying to get rich fast. They locked their money at a $15 million valuation for half a year without even knowing if Ethereum will work.

If everybody belives that something will definitively rise or in this case fall, it will usually go the other way...

I'm fairly suprised that a lot of people seem to belive that the idea will work, but on the other hand also belive market cap will go below 15million USD later on. It's a very complex technology that can fail in so many ways, but assuming it won't fail AND prices will also fall is a really bold bet. Consider how a single game is currently valued at several billions and a truly gamechanging innovation like ethereum should be only valued at a few million. Seriously, do you belive you are soo much smarter than everybody else?!

I'm not saying that prices won't be crashing a few weeks after launch, I'm just saying is that nobody knows to what market cap it could crash to. All I know so far is that there are a lot of people waiting to invest in ether, and this is usually not a sign of falling prices.

Yes I believe it stems from a case of malignant narcissism brought on during my early childhood.

I took a small punt during ipo at 0.7 btc for 1400 coins. I have faith in ethereum just think it might be steering away from everything bitcoin stands for in terms of the investors involved.

I wont be buying until 1/5 IPO prices....

Let the bloodbath begins!  Cheesy

I actually had someone on another thread arguing with me about how Ether would NEVER be cheaper than it was in the IPO.

My mind was blown. Even if this is the best coin ever invented, the IPO was a horrible horrible time to buy.

I'll buy when its 1/10 the IPO price. But then again, with the inflation, I probably won't then either.

It was certainly a bad time to buy. How much was a bitcoin back then?

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

I don't think you can. Did you memorise it or write it down as they asked you to? It was clearly stated on their website.
