If you ask players such as Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, then I am sure that they would prefer the shorter format instead of the more traditional varieties. Cricket is a career, just like any other. The players would chose the format which takes the least effort and pays the most.

I do not remember any remarkable performance by MS Dhoni in Test cricket but he is the best in the shorter format and hence i would not doubt if he likes the shorter format, since there are more formats and you could get selected in the team in a specific format if you are performing consistently and many countries have different teams for Test, ODI and T20 and the players do not select which format they play but according to the performance they get selected.

Lol, look at that! Sri Lankan former sport minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage smoking some fine weed nowadays. He's basically blaming sri lankan team that they fixed the match.

Now that is one big sarcastic headline, "India's Worldcup glory". I assume after the investigation is over and if Srilankan players are found guilty( which I doubt) ICC will take back the World cup honor and trophy from India.

Can you point me to any article where either Kohli or any of the other regular players say that they would prefer test matches over T20 (or IPL)?

Right now if we have voting system for format then surely we will have nearly 75% to 80% players those like Twenty/20 and never go for test because this is more entertaining and profitable for them so just because of this ICC is not going to do any thing which create more issue for them right now its good all three formats doing ok and we are enjoying with this all.

I have seen a lot of people complaining that test cricket is not being given any importance nowadays. I would strongly disagree. You can check the calendar from teams such as England and Australia. On average, they play 10 to 15 test matches per year. That is 50 to 75 days of test cricket, or more specifically 4,500 to 6,750 overs of test cricket per year. Comparing to this, the number of days/overs spent for ODI/T20 formats are much lower.

But the maximum punishment given by the court is public apology. So these guys would publish a two line apology in their media, and then return publishing even more fake news. I just hope that things are different in Sri Lanka.

This is hilarious. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh sports ministers usually cry over losses based on what I have observed, but I never expected the Sri Lankan to launch an investigation into this after almost a decade as I mentioned in one of my previous posts.

I disagree. Quantity does not automatically imply quality. Tests and ODIs have their own niche, but T20 cricket is way more popular in comparison due to the number of viewers, net revenue etc.

Now this is real serious matter in Sri Lanka as today I was watching news channel they have few live reports police call 2011 Chief Selector Arvinda DeSilva and investigated for 6 hours then they call Upal Tharanga and investigated for nearly 2 hours next call is for Jai Wardanai and Kumar Sangakara many other players and local authorties calling this is rediculas but now police in action and they will bring someone as main suspect and end this all in next few days.

I heard that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) staged a protest to support the players. It is just ridiculous. Yesterday, two of the legendary players were interrogated (Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene). These players are widely respected even outside Sri Lanka. Tarnishing their reputation, and that too based on some wild allegation is tragic, to say the least.

And as expected, the politicians are picking sides. Sajith Premadasa just tweeted against the SLC. I would just request these politicians not to make scapegoats out of cricket players, just for their own political benefit.

Sri Lanka police call-off 2011 World Cup final match-fixing probe over lack of evidence

The Sri Lankan police on Friday (July 3) dropped the match-fixing investigation regarding the 2011 World Cup final after they failed to find any concrete evidence of Sri Lankan players letting India win as per latest reports.

Former skipper Kumar Sangakkara, ex-chief selector Aravinda de Silva and a couple of others were interrogated this week over suspicions that have dogged the match for years.

"We are satisfied with their explanation," a top police official told AFP.

"The inquiry is now closed." "They had reasonable explanations about the changes that were made to the final squad," the officer added.

"We found no evidence of any wrongdoing."

As Mahela mentioned it is plain simple politics and I am sure nothing further will happen. This investigation will only tarnish the reputation of legendary players. These how you get the attention of the whole nation only for your political ambition.

I would disagree with the second sentence. It is not the investigation, but unsubstantiated rumors which are going to tarnish the reputation of the players. An investigation, if conducted properly can undo any damage which was brought as a result of these rumors. And this is what happened now. The police department has clarified that there is no evidence to substantiate any of the wild allegations.

That said, I am afraid that the damage is already done. Kumar Sangakkara was being talked about as one of the potential candidates to replace Shashank Manohar. But now, I don't think that he'll jump in to the fray.
