I think JMF can play, but they are giving him a rest since they know they are capable of beating those two teams. JMF and AJ Edu were crucial during their Asian Games championship run, but now they won't be playing, and instead, Japeth will be on the court. While Japeth may not contribute as much on points, he can still be reliable in terms of defense, even if he isn't the same as before. However, with Tim Cone as the coach, I trust him to make the most out of this lineup and be successful in these two games.

He was forced to play during the finals as they needed him. But this one might be too physical since there are lots of big guys, and he doesn't want to risk himself playing not at 100%. JMF has a lot of injury history already, and he is better when he is fully healthy, like as healthy as he was when they won a championship in the Asian Games. Honestly, I think Edu is more effective, but since he is also out, other bigs should step up, and hopefully, Japeth will turn back the time.

It will be a good test for Kai, as he will be playing most of the time since both JMF and Edu are out coach Tim will utilize him and knowing how good JBL he will also use Kai's advantage in terms of their offense, I'm not looking for Japeth as age and all those injuries might slow him he will be there to bring aid for Kai and for all those big young guns.

We will see how and what are the plans, good thing that they are preparing much earlier and PBA is letting them to work out and do the drills and practices to know more about the system that coach Tim wants to execute.

Maybe it's just timely because Kai is now regaining his confidence. I've seen some highlights from some of his recent games where he was able to score 20+ points, and the shot-blocking is still there. Having him on the team will help Gilas improve their defense. I'm excited about this since it could be the first time we see Kai getting some good minutes, unlike in the FIBA World Cup, where despite his length, he could easily be abused in the paint, resulting in him getting limited minutes.

Kai is still young, of course he will eventually improve. Now that the team is relying so much on him in the paint, he will surely do his best to help the team. Gilas is lucky that despite Kai having a contract with overseas team, he still find a way to represent the country to help them.

We can see his statistics here on his current team/

https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Kai-Sotto/Summary/133946

So tomorrow Gilas vs Hongkong

In Feb 25, Gilas vs Chinese Taipei ( this will in our country)

Haven't seen the betting odds of this fight yet.

With coach Tim, I think he will be utilize with both Japeth and JMF mentoring him it will be easy for him to developed that good blend to his teammates, just a matter of how they will create a good system for him, as he's a two-way player, he can protect the rim and bring decent numbers of rebounds plus his capability to score when he got a good looks to take the shot.

I agree that it's a timely manner to show his matureness, just like what you said, there are highlights from the previous league that he's playing where he already showing good numbers which is very important to build his confidence.

We will all be seeing how they will execute all those hard works during their practice, I believe that the game will help them and teach them how to work and play as one.

So tomorrow Gilas vs Hongkong

In Feb 25, Gilas vs Chinese Taipei ( this will in our country)

Haven't seen the betting odds of this fight yet.

We will see the betting odds tomorrow. I checked with my bookie now, but I only see the odds for the "FIBA Americup Qualifiers." Perhaps this event is not so popular, which is why it's still not available. Let's be patient and wait until tomorrow. Hopefully, we can provide an update here, so those willing to bet but unable to find where to risk their money can get an idea.

It's a different coach, so we might see a different outcome in his performance. FIBA Asia isn't as competitive as the FIBA World Cup. Kai Sotto has played in different countries and on different leagues. I believe he has a lot to offer, but he hasn't been discovered or utilized to his full potential yet.

And as we look at his physical looks, he is still young. As long as he stays healthy, he will keep improving. The good thing for him is that he has been given a lot of opportunities to play in a competitive league. Now, with the FIBA Asia Qualifier, if he is up for a challenge, he will step up here.

He does resemble Wemby, though, but of course, Wemby is better since he is already in the NBA. Well, I believe that there's a chance for Kai to make it to the NBA, but he needs to be consistent, and this FIBA Asia tournament is another big stage to showcase his talent. Since Gilas Pilipinas won the Asian Games last year, they will be playing with boosted confidence, especially Brownlee, who just came back after a ban.

Regarding the betting odds, it's okay if they're not available now since the game is tomorrow at 8:00 PM in the evening. Still plenty of time. As for how to watch this, I hope Pilipinas Live has coverage so that we won't have to rely on illegal streams and avoid interruptions.

Have you guys read a rumor about Greg Slaughter signing with Ginebra again? I just saw a post on Facebook about this but could not confirm if that was really true, as there hasn't been an article online that gives more details about this. I was just thinking, if he will sign with Ginebra again, that would make this team a good contender in the All-Filipino Cup. JMF and Greg Slaughter are a good match, and every time they play against each other, it is always a very competitive match individually.

There are lots of fake posts on Facebook, so rumors might be baseless without proof that it's really possible. Well, before Slaughter could really match JMF, but we haven't seen him anymore on how he is playing now. I believe he is playing overseas, but I guess he's not doing well since our vloggers are not making videos of him. That only means he is not interesting to watch. We'll see how these rumors will unfold; perhaps we can find some posters here that could provide more details regarding this.

You maybe have a point there, let's just wait for the development of this rumor as I'm hoping it will come into reality. And there's a sense of urgency for the Ginebra to acquire a big man since Japeth aren't the same anymore, they can't match JMF in the paint without a dominant big man like Greg.

We have this news too that he is still playing in Japan with his current team.
Quote
"Greg Slaughter will be back with Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka for the 2023-24 season," the post said.
https://www.onesports.ph/more-sports/article/12973/greg-slaughter-extends-stay-in-japan

So in order for him to play in the Philippines, he'll need to finish the season which I don't know when will end, or terminate it prematurely with the approval of the team owner/s.

I didn't read yet anything about that rumor but there's a chance for it to become possible.

Greg Slaughter is currently in contract for his Japan B-League stint for the 2023-24 season which will end up I think in May and June. The team won't surely make it to the postseason. The restart of the PBA conference might probably happen in a couple of months, and by that time Greg should be free from any contract unless there will be a contract extension on his current team.

If happens, the timing is good since right now Ginebra is lacking a big man as Japeth Aguilar's performance is now declining and only playing limited minutes while Christian Standhardinger is now injury-prone and might not be able to return to his usual shape for good. Jamie Malonzo can play at Position 5 but he's more effective as a Power Forward.

Just watched some highlights of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifier between Philippines and Hong Kong. Well Gilas played well but from what I can see, the Hong Kong team is quite easy to beat. Also, I have noticed that Gilas Pilipinas has really improved; Justin Brownlee knows and understand how his team plays. Kai Sotto has shown bit of improvement and has toned down his energy as I can see from his gestures. KQ can shoot every shot really well; I like this kid.and hopefully someday he can play in the NBA. What do you think mga kababayan, Olympics or not?

I was also amazed by the comments from the fans as it seems they like the system now. These players are playing great basketball, the ball movement was very impressive and they are not afraid to shoot. I think with this lineup, I have no doubt that they will be the champion in the FIBA Asian Cup.

For those who haven't seen it yet, he's the highlights of the game. Gilas Pilipinas vs. Hong Kong window 1 game highlights | FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers

By the way, this Sunday we have another game and it will be held in the Philippines.

Yes, this will be this coming Sunday at the Philsports Arena. I'm sure the fans will come and support the new Gilas. After their dominating win versus Hong Kong, they are now oozing with confidence, and I have no doubt that they can beat Chinese Taipei, but not sure if it's still a blowout win for Gilas. At this current lineup, my confidence is very high because I saw how they move the ball to find an open shooter, but against a tougher opponent, we will see if their chemistry will still work out.

Trivia, this Philsports Arena has a maximum capacity of 10,000 according to wiki... Can the fans fill this arena?

To be honest, 10k is just a small numbers as we know how pinoy fans loves the sport, with the new mentor for sure more support will come and it can be cnverted to a ticket sales, if you watch the game last night and you have the money and the time to spare, I can say that you'll be going to wanting to see them in a live action, With JBL leading them the squad, trust has been developed and ball movement is something that we witness that really imporoves.

I like the rotations and the trust coach Tim gives to all his young guns, Tamayo, KQ and Kai are all being utilize whoever playing with them they are showing that they are willing to give whatever it takes.

Though just a single game can't define how good is this newly formed PH national team but I'm pretty sure if they continue to keep improving olympics is no longer that far.

Maybe it's not a rumor but just a created story by the author to whom where you read it. PBA rumors, if somehow close to being true, especially involving famous players like Greg Slaughter, will be spread quickly and more famous sports analyst will share their thoughts about it. Greg is currently playing @ Japan B-League for 1 season and his basketball future is still unknown after he finished that contract.

I'm not even sure if Greg is performing well in his Japan B-league career. But for sure, against pure locals in PBA All-Filipino Cup, he's still a big wall that needed to be breached behind the rim. Ginebra though is playing small ball lineup in the past conferences.

He gained enough experience playing overseas; it's now time for him to come back and make Ginebra a championship team again. Even with the PBA, Greg isn't really a huge help in the offense, which was the reason why his contract before was uncertain. But probably Ginebra realizes that they don't have someone who can at least limit JMF, and that's why they are trying to consider getting Greg again. Although this is just a rumor, but as you mentioned, it's close to reality, so let's be optimistic about this.

If there's a possibility I'm pretty sure it's another rivalry of the south, we all knew that they are familiar with each other as they compete against each other during their early age, though JMF earned a huge success but Greg if only gained that same attention, too bad he's not become what's expected him to be as Gin kings got a lots of stars during his time.

I like the rivalry if ever, having Greg, CStan and Japeth together with Scottie and Jamie during the All-Filipino and with JBL in the reinforcement cup, I think the chances of winning another title might be on it's way.

Though we can only say that it will going to happen till its being announce, right now, either it's just a write-up to gain readers or there's something behind that's being cook by some forces inside PBA.

Do you see a betting line already for the Gilas Pilipinas game tomorrow?

It seems it's not available on any gambling site. I don't know how this happened since this is a legit match, and people are interested in watching it. Last time, I wasn't able to bet as I could not find betting odds, and I wasn't able to watch the game live, so I haven't checked the odds if it was available at that time.

Technically since we are following local PH time here in this thread, it's now February 24th here.

Same here, I also didn't see yet some bookies listing the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers game between Gilas and Chinese-Taipei.

I suggest checking those local bookies within the GCASH app under GLIFE.

I just checked our local bookies, specifically Sportsplus, which is under GLIFE, but could not find that particular game. Both in the local listing and basketball in general, there are no betting odds yet. Well, this is for tomorrow since it's already 2:31 AM in the Philippines now, but let us not lose hope on this. Come back and check again an hour before the game.
