We know Mbappe's current value is around 300 million and this certainly exceeds expectations for the price of a player.
Indeed, if we are looking for a replacement for Benzema then Mbappe can be a decent figure and can be used as a benchmark for attack lines, but when the price set by PSG is also very high then surely Madrid will try to play some tricks so they can get Mbappe but at a price that is not too expensive.

Why would Real act quickly and lose nearly 200-300 million just to get him one season early when they are aware that they could get him next season for free? They are not going to offer a lot, maybe they can offer just a bit to get him for one season early and use him for a whole season, that's not a bad thing you can still offer some money for one more season of him, that's good but 300? Of course not.

You do not pay 300 million for just a single season of him and you pay him next season directly instead. Why would I want to pay 300 to the club and 120 to a player when I can just pay 150 million to player and zero to team? That way player would be more happy with me and I would be in so much profit, that's like 3 years of Mbappe instead of 1 more season of him instead.
