It was deemed as deliberate handball and that's why he was shown the red card. Quite some drama inside the extra minutes where two players got yellow and one got sent off. It's quite serious for Blues now. Blues can still manage to win but that is gonna take a lot of hardwork. They need pace in attack maybe someone like Werner, Odoi or Ziyech can put some trouble with pace. But let's see how Tuchel react now in next half. I think it is very likely they are gonna switch in some players.

Yes it is a correct red card seeing his hand position and the fact that he is the last player and prevented an imminent goal.

According to IFAB, a player that obstruct a goal scoring opportunity with the hand has committed a sent off offense. James moved his hand towards the direction of the ball. It’s a foul and the punishment was a sent off. Assuming it was just a rebound from his leg before hitting his hand, it won’t have been an offense. Although Liverpool needed that goal because they’ve been the better side in this first half. Keeping the possession, playing through the midfield and allowing their fullbacks play very high and planing many deadly attacks, thats what a good team does. Chelsea are just waiting for loose balls so they can attack through Lukaku and Havertz. They need to deploy a new tactics now since they’re now 10 men. I hope Liverpool wins.

Yes it is a correct red card seeing his hand position and the fact that he is the last player and prevented an imminent goal.

That was chaotic.  So many chances for LFC, it was funny as hell.  I didn't know about that rule of hand ball being a red card.  Seems kind of harsh since it didn't look deliberate to me.  I guess James' location and his arm position is what dictates the penalty is an automatic red card, but none the less a little harsh.

I have betbuilder bet with LFC to win and both teams to score.  I guess now that Chelsea is down a man I might win, lol.

Oh! Chelsea did a very stupid thing with that mistake. Such a stupid thing to have resulted in that penalty and consequently a red card. All that could have been avoided should Marcos Alonso had left that ball for E. Mendy to get a hold of it. Just minutes after I thought there was no chance for Liverpool to get back into the game, they've turned to have a hold on the game with Chelsea being a man down and Liverpool have got the home advantage as well. I won't be surprised to see Chelsea coming off in the second half with a more defensive strategy but I'm not sure that would help such because, it would put the team under pressure and trust me, Liverpool is good for it.

Brentford loss was unacceptable but take it as first game of the league, not many people expect win against Chelsea and Manchester City so try to be optimistic. Arsenal will recover from this situation, they definitely don't deserve last place in Premier League. Their next fixture is Norwich City at home first and then Burnley game. I'm sure they will win both games and make six points. This would be a breather before Tottenham game for sure. September will be better for Gunners.

A draw at first half for Liverpool and Chelsea but Chelsea is one man down now. Liverpool will find a winning goal in second half, I don't think Chelsea can defend their goal whole 45 minutes. Reece James blew Tuchel's plans when everything was going good.

Chelsea  opponent is Liverpool one of the top EPL teams play at home and against 10 players so I don't see a gap for Chelsea to get points their chance is only 10% IMO
If there really is a drama, of course it's very interesting to watch, drama usually comes at the end of the season or in an important match, let's see in the 2nd half.

What is happening to Arsenal is a shameful and unfortunate thing, the club is at rock bottom at all levels, and the differences are widening and increasing and multiplying with its competitors, which makes it far from even being among the adults.
Tough and crowded schedule, disastrous individual fouls, even late and incomplete reinforcements, but also poor choices from Arteta and Jim Blanc in most of the big games of late.
The sack of Arteta is looming on the horizon, but will it solve the problems, I do not think or expect, unfortunately.
Fans have lost their confidence in the team 30 minutes in the game  and they started to leave the stadium.

Arerta should have never got the job he has no experience and Arsenal are paying the price. How are they going to improve the team now? They have bought players for very expensive amounts which are not up to the quality of what is needed to challenge for the league. I think they might struggle to get in the top 10.

I was a defender of Arteta until today. A game like this cannot happen for a club like Arsenal ...they had 0 shots on the goal , absolute 0 ideas of how to play football and the players don't have any relationship between them when they have and when they don't have the ball. It's a shame what happen today but do we think is just Arteta ? look at the squad ...they will fight for relations spot with this squad.

I liked Arteta at first, and continued to until last season.  Last year they started out slow, then had a good run in the autumn, but by winter it was obvious they couldn't hold onto their position in the table.  After slowly dropping down the table year after year, and failing to qualify for the European competitions I think it's obvious that Arteta needs to be replaced.  Arsenal has too proud of a history to continue this way.  If we stick with Arteta and the current squad I'm afraid a "successful season" will be avoiding relegation.

Arsenal were literally crushed by Manchester City today with a 5-0 result. Until the red card, Arsenal still weren't playing like they really wanted to get something here. After 2-0, Ederson's mistake was nearly ending up with a lucky goal for Arsenal but it was a close call. And after the red card, they completely gave up on the match. It resulted in a huge defeat for them.

I don't think arsenal management will do that, because when arsenal failed to break into the top 4 of the English Premier League last season, they say:  arsenal management was still very supportive of Arteta and they respected Arteta contract so far, so I don't think Arsenal management will sack Arteta that quickly even though the pressure from fans is getting bigger nowadays, you certainly still remember when the wenger and fans urged to sack Wenger, didn't it take a long time to be realized?

I heard rumors that Arsene Wenger has a stake in Arsenal so he can't just be dismissed by management. I don't know if that's right or wrong. But what is clear is that Arteta cant stay there as a coach for long because it will only make the players disrespect him. I know it's not an easy choice now, but it wasn't that hard to sack him at the start of the season, was it?

This kinda reminds me when Wenger was still in charge of Arsenal. Back then alot of fans were pretty unsatisfied on how Wenger always ended up getting 4th spot and now Im sure that fans will be happy with Wenger's achievement so far compared with Arteta.

Regarding upgrades in most of the positions, probably its not going to happen anytime soon because the transfer window is closing but this is by far the worst Arsenal's performance and Arteta would be taking all the blame for it. I dont think that there isnt that many top coach that want to take over Arsenal but Frank Lampard could be one of the candidate to replace arteta

Yes exactly, and in football if a team is doing very well, the manager gets praises, if the team is doing bad, the manager gets criticized, and most times sacked, when Arsenal took Arteta away from City, I actually thought he was going to do well at the Emirates, I mean, coming from the Etihad, with a little bit of experience and having been in assistant to pep whom I consider the best football manger currently, it was supposed to bring good performances to the Arsenal team, but right now things seem to be going from bad to worse. Arsenal need an overhaul of the team which would obviously include the manager.

Liverpool desperately need to win today in order to gain a foothold at the top of the table, and if he does not take advantage of the numerical advantage it will be a fiasco. Although, in fact, a straight red card seems to me too harsh for a match of this level. Also, a straight red card seems too harsh to me for a match of this level ... but what you said that the loss of one player for Chelsea can turn into a disaster is not entirely true, since 9 people on defense can easily keep Liverpool.

Speaking of Wenger, the first thing that comes to my mind is the season when Arsenal have not suffered a single defeat in the Premier League. The time when Arsenal played real English football, the time when Arsenal changed the course of even unsuccessful matches with their pressure.

Last I heard there were 2 coaches potentially replacing Arteta. Antonio Conte is the strongest candidate there are also other names like Thierry Henry as an Arsenal legend he has a chance there I don't see Frank Lampard as a candidate. in addition to the new coach a new striker also seems necessary

We have witnessed how great Chelsea defended their goal after one of their players was sent off. It was really marvelous for Chelsea. R. James got a red card in the last minute of the first half and it was penalty. Salah succeeded in scoring the penalty and equalized the score. In the second half, Chelsea started playing defensively to keep the score at 1-1 at least and they achieved their target. Liverpool dominated the half but there was no other goal. Chelsea must be content about this result.

It does appear that Grealish was the sole creative outlet... and I've seen that phrase in the match reports a few times already, and the season has only just begun. I know that teams have their star players, but Villa without Grealish, despite £100m of new talent, just aren't the same.

Liverpool increased the intensity of their attack in the last few minute, but Chelsea have a solid defense as far as I have seen. Unfortunately the red card disrupted the game and forced Chelsea to play with 10 men. However, Chelsea had several times endangered Liverpool through a series of attacks that were launched, it was a match that  a lot of energy.

Until the final whistle sounded, the draw was no longer changed. Final score Liverpool 1 vs 1 Chelsea. My guess was wrong today.

That's a lot of red cards today! Liverpool are lucky Chelsea had a player suspended! Liverpool could have scored many more goals but the game ended in a draw... But still Chelsea are one point higher in the standings than Liverpool!

An interesting game for neutrals, kinda annoying for us Liverpool fans. The penalty was a lucky break (it was a clear penalty but it was a bit clumsy, especially so close to the half-time whistle), red card is by the book but I have to say I don't like to see whe they are given like this.

Fair play to Chelsea, they defended well in the 2nd half, Mendy made some routine saves and we ultimately did not create enough for the win today. A draw is the fairest outcome.

I have to give it to them guys, Liverpool 1:1 Chelsea was the game for the day and it turned out to be so, being very entertaining. You can imagine Chelsea being able to absorb all the pressure from the Liverpool side as though, it was nothing, even with a one man down, they still managed to attempt some counters even if it was poorly coordinated. The defense on the other hand was a whole different story, the coordination was on point, they knew when to rush, replace a defender and form some sort of a clustered barrier against some attack formation from the Liverpool side. The whole Chelsea team deserves an applaud, E. Mendy was on point in this one and Tuchel is the big brains behind it all. Very entertaining, good one for Chelsea!

I must admit that Chelsea resisted Liverpool really superbly. After getting the red card at nearly the end of the first half, things started going the opposite way for them. Liverpool got a really big chance to turn things around and win. Chelsea needed to play faultless on their defense. And we knew that they had the right manager and the system for it. It was tough but they managed to secure the 1-1 score and got one point. Klopp must be unhappy about this result.
