Yes, it's a huge chance for Donaire to be a champion again or even unify all the belts. I think that's what he is doing now and taking advantage while there are no boxers that can be a threat in the division that can probably face him. Well, if time permits, Nonito will and can surely unify all the belts at 118. For now, let's see him fight because his last fights weren't that flashy anymore.

Not unless Nonito Donaire will lose this fight against Santiago, I will still stick to my personal belief that Donaire can stll dominate the bantamweight division despite his age now that Inoue is now out of the said division. Seeing the current rankings at the 122 across all boxing organizations, it's only Jason Moloney for can give a tough fight to Donaire.

But seems Moloney still recognize Donaire's power and try to delay the time they will face soon by backing on the fight. It will result for them to meet each other at the possible unification fight if they will be both become champion but at that time will happened, Donaire is aging more.
I agree. I still believe that Donaire still has the energy to fight more if ever he wins this upcoming title fight but unifying the other title might become a rough road especially if the other champions find him a big threat to be stripped as a champion. I guess it will also rely on the performance he will bring against Alexandro. If a big gap will be seen against him then there's a chance he will be avoided even if he will be the one making the challenge.

For now, let's see how the fight will end up. Without Inoue around, I am sure Donaire's mentality is different. He lost twice to that man and I bet this is also like a revenge fight, just with a different boxer. Reclaiming his seat as one of the formidable boxers in their weight class.

We know that upsets are always possible but I guess it's safe and we can assume that the chance of upset in this bout are smaller than slim, IMO. That said, I believe that Donaire can be a champion once again after this fight and hopefully he can gather up the remaining belts while he can still fight and give his utmost destructive power towards his foes. But since this fight haven't got its own schedule (AFAIK), let's hope that Donaire can still fight once more before this year ends.

Yeah, it's slim I guess, unless that Santiago is a extra ordinary fighter like Manny when he was just starting and upset Barrera in Texas, but if he is not and base on his records, It's unlikely that he can pull it against the experience of Nonito.

Just waiting for words though about this fight because there is no date yet?

Or maybe they are still negotiating? I don't know, but hopefully this will happen this year and we all looking for Donaire to win here and become a champion once more.

According to The ring world rankings [1] Donaire currently at top 3 position, the top 1 is Rodriguez and the top 2 is Moloney. I think both of Rodriguez and Moloney are have a similar performance, they ever fought with each other and it was a close fight. I guess Donaire could become an undisputed champion if he not waiting to long since it's will make him older.

Just waiting for words though about this fight because there is no date yet?

WBC organization already approve this fight, but there's no more update since February 2023, I don't find any updated news. But yeah hopefully this fight may happen this year.

I think the reason they delaying this fight is the huge list of exciting fights coming next month and maybe after that, they will finally put a schedule on this one. There's no way that they will further delay it because the more the days go by, the more Donaire is heading towards retirement soon and he thinks he can still go for 2 or 3 fights after this one, so they really need to make a schedule as soon as possible in order for Donaire to still showcase his boxing skills in this era.

Yes, we all know that it has been approved, but same question, why is there a delay? this fight should have at least a date already, what keeps the fighters and their promoters from announcing the fight officially?

And you might be right, as the day passes by, Donaire might loss sometime, I mean he is not getting any younger, LOL, you can even see his hairline already at his age of 40 years old. This should be made at least June or July so that Donaire will not have any ring rust.

Perhaps it was due to the issue with Richard Schaefer, Donaire was used to be under Probellum and Richard, but then Richard bolted out of Probellum and work on another outfit, he did bring Donaire though with him. So most likely, Richard as a manager needs to do it in scratch as he is no longer with Probellum, just my hint.

Yeah, this championship fight needs to happen, and so is the other sanctioning body's championship and eliminator. The Inoue going up in weight created this kind of mess.

Maybe after the fight between Reymart Gaballo and Nawaphon Kaikanh in May, we can expect that the WBC will now formally announce the details of the fight between Nonito Donaire and Alejandro Santiago for the vacant WBC Bantamweight title.

I assumed that because the winner between Reymart Gaballo and Nawaphon Kaikanh will be the contender for the winner between Nonito Donaire vs Alejandro Santiago. Let's wait until next month after the Gaballo and Kaikanh match if there will be any information about the Donaire vs Santiago fight.

What? How Inoue created this mess? In the first place, he already achieved all things that were needed in the bantamweight division and it just makes sense for him to move up. No need to stay in the 122 division.

It's Jason Moloney who created this mess because he backed off this fight.

It's just that there's no official date released but it's not a problem. We just need to wait.

Yes, we all know that it has been approved, but same question, why is there a delay? this fight should have at least a date already, what keeps the fighters and their promoters from announcing the fight officially?

As stated by the earlier reply, I believe promoters are looking for a good timing to schedule the fight since there are more excited matches in the month ahead.  It may incur  a loss if the schedule of the fight get in sync with other matches that is more interesting.

And you might be right, as the day passes by, Donaire might loss sometime, I mean he is not getting any younger, LOL, you can even see his hairline already at his age of 40 years old. This should be made at least June or July so that Donaire will not have any ring rust.

I agree, it would be disadvantageous for Donaire if the match takes long to schedule.  Donaire's performance may be affected when old age takes a toll on him.

It's just that there's no official date released but it's not a problem. We just need to wait.

I'm talking about when Inoue vacated, so there is a power vacuum being left as a result of that. So obviously all 4 belts are available, and there are fight like this being ordered by WBC, although initially it should have been Moloney vs Casimero. And then Moloney decided not to fight Donaire, jump ship to WBO and now he is fighting for the belt.

And there are title eliminators too if I'm not mistaken with Gaballo and others. Now, we even don't have the date for this said fight. It was ordered months ago, but so far no official date. So right now we don't know what is happening and there could be some changes, who knows.

So that is the mess that Inoue created, everyone wanted to have the title. Governing bodies are scrambling to fill up that open space.

I might not go with that statement mate because we cannot just compare Manny Pacquiao's footsteps with Santiago's footstep because the latter has nothing in comparison with the Filipino legend. I mean, look at his records, Manny Pacquiao surely didn't have that when he was still climbing from flyweight up to bantamweight, at that time, he already got a lot of recognition and was known already in the industry unlike Santiago now who is still fighting to earn himself a place in the division.

WBC organization already approve this fight, but there's no more update since February 2023, I don't find any updated news. But yeah hopefully this fight may happen this year.

what is very strange about all this is that from the 15th of february to the 28th of february the news channels and even the youtube channels have not talked about this fight since they talked about this fight, knowing that the marketing agents of these fighters are a true genius in the arts of publicity and they don't let this type of event go unnoticed, they would already be doing a big publicity campaign about this fight even if it still didn't have a specific date, but then I wonder why the agents of marketing of these fighters still haven't moved?

this means that if they still haven't said anything about the dates of the fight then the date could be many months from now, something like 4 or 5 months from now, if they were going to fight earlier like in may or june or july they would have already spoken and already would be doing a publicity campaign around this fight, anyway we just have to wait for the fight to happen, but it won't be something that will happen anytime soon, everyone likes to win money and titles and fights, that's why they do everything everything to have fights sooner, but when you're facing an undated fight then it won't be something that will happen so soon

when I see that there are already days and months that they will fight that will be when I will really believe that the fight will happen and then I will worry about finding out more about the two fighters and the possibility of placing a bet and which fighter I will bet on, for now I see this fight as something that is only on paper, something that is just a plan and has nothing concrete in practice, even on the prediction sites that I tried to search I did not find anything about a prediction of who could win this fight, there is nothing more about this fight.

Yeah, this championship fight needs to happen, and so is the other sanctioning body's championship and eliminator. The Inoue going up in weight created this kind of mess.

After unifying all the belts, he just jumped up and vacant the titles. Now we see those possible upcoming fights and we might see more, but moving forward with this said upcoming fight of Donaire.

There's no update yet and there're no hypes and interest that can pull the trigger to push the date
to happen. We are just waiting and hoping that it will take place.

If anything the boxing associations are at fault, this is not the first or the last time a boxer will unify all the titles in a single division and then move to another division, just on the last two years this happened three times with Canelo, Usyk and Inoue, Usyk was successful and remained at the heavyweight division, Canelo lost but most likely will make another attempt soon, and we still do not know how Inoue will do on his current division as he is yet to fight Fulton.

We will see, but the hype is very high for Inoue dominating the current division. Hopefully, we will not be disappointed in his coming performance. A dominant boxer would always bring joy to the fans, especially if that boxer is not afraid of taking on challengers, just like what Manny did. Maybe we will see someone like him in the future, or maybe it will be Inoue.

In my opinion, I'm seeing that Inoue's camp is trying to achieve what Manny had accomplished, or they wanted to have more to be one of the best fighter in his era.

Yeah, fans will love a kind of fighter who is not afraid of taking any difficult challenges and with how
Inoue showing his aggressions to continue his journey to another level of competitions for sure he will
be praised and continue to be loved while still fighting.

They can do that as it cannot be denied that Inoue is truly an exceptional fighter. However, they need to understand that time is running out, so they should always aim for a championship fight first and then move up after a win. The chance of Inoue becoming like Pacquiao is decent, given his power and speed, but he still needs to be tested.

He can do that much though, I doubt that he can go as high as 147 lbs. Inoue will be biting too much if he goes to 126 lbs to 130. So for now, I don't see any comparisons to Manny. There's only one Manny Pacquiao in our generation.

He has a full plate in front of him and that is Fulton is June. Fulton is a great champion and the natural 122 lbs boxer. So we don't know if Inoue can adjust and bring his power to this new division. Although he has been given the greenlight to fight for the belt in his first fight in this weight class because of what he achieved in the bantamweight division.

We can blame it on the organization, yeah why not, but they should anticipated that Inoue will go up in weight class. Although they have sanctioned fights already for this year, but nothing has yet to materialized.

Just like what we have been expecting this fight, it's been months and no official word from the WBC or even from the boxers themselves.

I don't think they will have to wait for Gaballo's title eliminator. On the contrary, it should be the championship fight that needs to happen first so that they will have a official champion in their rankings.
