This is a good matchup for Donaire, and I have a feeling that he will be the favorite in this fight once the odds are out. His opponent has three losses, but is a very active boxer, having won all three fights last year.
I believe most of the posters here will be rooting for Donaire, but it would still be nice to put up a poll to determine who has the majority of the votes.
If Donaire is listed as the favorite, I doubt he will be a heavy favorite. He's coming off a big loss against Inoue, so he doesn't have much momentum, unlike Santiago, who is currently on a winning streak.

Wow this seems to be a fast action from the Boxing association so the training of Nonito won't come to nothing? now that he will be fighting another one( in which Santiago) is one thing that favors all , I turn to bet for Donaire if the fight wasn't cancelled and now it seems that I will be betting now for this. and since this is a title bout , maybe this will be more interesting .

The news just came out about a championship fight in the bantamweight division. We were worried that we might not be able to see Donaire fight soon when his last fight was cancelled. However, this new championship match has been announced and we will get to see him fight soon. Although the specific date has not been released yet, it will be announced soon for sure
Not sure if Donaire can still keep up with young guns but I'm rooting for him to win this match between Santiago. I think Santiago is a decent fighter and now that he's in his prime compare to an ageing Donaire I think the chance for him to beat one of the greatest was likely 60/40.

He can for sure, because Santiago is not the same quality as Inoue. He may be young, but he does not have the skills and explosiveness of Inoue. Therefore, I believe that Donaire has a decent chance of winning here. He will be a champion again, which will make the Philippines proud of him, as we are already losing champions. However, if he fails, I think he should consider retiring from boxing and declare his retirement. He is not getting any younger, and his age is likely a big factor in how he can win.

comparing their Boxing record, Donaire seems to have more advantage than Santiago. this will be an interesting match to watch, I'd like to see how Santiago will fair against someone who has more experience and has more advantage than him. sorry if this might be a bit off-topic. it looks like they already have someone who is ready to take the fight in case one of the team decides to not continue with the match. from what I've read the reason Moloney's Management Bob Arum of "Top Rank promotions" has a problem with Donaire's Management "Probellum"( check here for the article).

The only advantage Santiago has here is his age, LOL. Donaire is old, but like a fine wine, he still has that timing, and with his power, he can definitely KO his opponent. I have not seen the boxing highlights of Santiago, which is why I'm very confident that Donaire will win, but let's see if it will change my mind. sorry if this might be a bit off-topic. it looks like they already have someone who is ready to take the fight in case one of the team decides to not continue with the match. from what I've read the reason Moloney's Management Bob Arum of "Top Rank promotions" has a problem with Donaire's Management "Probellum"( check here for the article). That's the kind of politics that can destroy a potentially great fight. Of course, if both promoters do not agree, the fight is not going to happen.

Could be a blessing in disguise for Donaire he is preparing for the Moloney fight but here he is fighting a guy whose skill is lower than Moloney, Santiago is smaller than Donaire and we all know that Donaire is very good when he is fighting small guys. Santiago fought Ancajas in 2018 and ended in a draw but Donaire is miles away when it comes to skill his only advantage is his age, but Donaire still has the power and speed but he needs to knock out Santiago in the early rounds.

I think Maloney and Santiago are different fighters. The preparation is usually for a specific fighter because the strategy should always match the opponent's strategy. A good example is Manny Pacquiao preparing for Spence, but the fight did not happen, so Ugas was sent as a replacement. In that fight, Manny Pacquiao lost because he was not preparing for Ugas.

same thoughts here mate, lets add Poll for this OP I third the motion. Let's make a poll. So, this tells Jason Moloney will be fighting against Reymart Gaballo if Vincent Astrolabio picks to go for the IBF title. Well then, that puts away all the trends about Donaire and Moloney's fight, they can now stay in silence and focus on their own fights. But I am sure they will still meet if Donaire plans to continue and want to fight more after this. Unify the titles himself and get a good retiring record. I bet Donaire was already preparing for Moloney but this is great, set it as early as possible so he can change his strategy. How much do you guys think the odds will be against Santiago?

I haven't gone through with most details yet but I am happy to see that Donaire is going to have a championship match again. This is what he really needs to do before the possible retirement that he might announce just after the match. I third the motion. Let's make a poll. I am sure that the votes will most likely for Donaire. Looking at the stats of Santiago, he may not that be an easy opponent. I'll find and watch some videos of his matches.

The news just came out about a championship fight in the bantamweight division.
Interesting to follow the continuation of boxing between Donaire vs. Alejandro, can't wait to know the official announcement of the two of them from the WBC President, I'm also curious about Donaire fighting the boxer from Mexico, Will Donaire be able to win back from Alejandro the WBC bantamweight class, which failed last year from the hands of Naoya Inoue, considering that Donaire is currently head 40, while Alejandro is still a young head 27. Statistically Donaire is superior to Alejandro in the sport of boxing, Donaire has been seen in the ring more often and has more experience, which is clearly proper and precise boxing as the OP said, is at stake between the two of them.

Batlle against age? Well pacquiao still has it so he might as well do so even if they are two different fighters. But going back, Santiago won't let this slide that easy. Indeed this would be a huge break for him to let go. For sure he's training hard as well. Which gave me the idea that this would be a battle of drive and hunger; to be back on track or to create a new one. Odds are not as clear with other matches but would probably still go for Nonito.

He's about to retire and knowing Filipinos, they wouldn't leave boxing without making it remarkable for them. It will be a good chance for Donaire to prove himself again though Santiago is also a strong opponent. He should prepare well and target his opponent's weakest spot.

I think he still can, the only roadblocks for him is Inoue. All other boxers in the bantamweight, I think he has a good chance to beat them like Santiago here. I thought that Donaire might sit for at least 6 months waiting for the Sor vs Gaballo result. Anyways, if this is for the belt then good for Donaire as you guys said, he will be given the chance. This is the consequences of Moloney backing out and I would say it's much easier opponent for Donaire.

Experience will definitely on the side of Donaire. But I don't think this is just a walk in the park for him. Santiago might be below his rankings, but he has youth on this side and definitely will like to take this opportunity to become a bantamweight champion. sorry if this might be a bit off-topic. it looks like they already have someone who is ready to take the fight in case one of the team decides to not continue with the match. from what I've read the reason Moloney's Management Bob Arum of "Top Rank promotions" has a problem with Donaire's Management "Probellum"( check here for the article). We don't know if that is the real reason or just Bob Arum doesn't want to work with Donaire and Probellum. Or just want to keep Moloney out of Donaire's arms and will go to WBO to have a fight with someone that is also on the stable of Top Rank. Bob Arum is know to do that strategy, all in house money for him and no one to negotiate, make the fight easy for him.

Yeah, he will obviously the favorite based on the WBC ranking alone, Donaire is second if I'm not mistaken behind Moloney. True, majority love Donaire, although we said that he should retire after the beating he got from the hands of Inoue, a worst knockout in his career. But if he can still pull the trigger against Santiago and given the window of opportunity to become a champion again, so why not take it. Doesn't matter if he will be the heavy or slight favorite, he will get our bets for sure or which round he is going to score a knockout.
